Any relations to Pradal Serey?[edit]

I've read Pradal Serey was also a possible predecessor to Muay Thai. How does Muay Boran relate, if any, to Pradal Serey? Someone also mentions that the word "Boran" means "ancient" or "old" in Khmere.

As with the Muay Thai article, I've reverted to a previous page since the history was messed up with a bias for Cambodia and an irrelevant comparison to krav maga.Morinae 09:01, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In Thailand, Mauy is mean boxing or fighting. When Boxing arrive to Thailand, It is called Mauy Sakol (Sakol mean International). Mauy Sakol is more popular than mauythai until Mauy is mean Mauy sakol and Original thai material art is called mauythai. And when Foriegner come to thailand and like it the name mauythai is promoted to worldwide. The Mauythai tournament is decrees Art because they try to practice the effective way to win not protect ancient material art. The Ancient Mauythai School (Ex. Mauy Chaiya School) try to protected ancient material art and promote their school we call this muaythai is "Mauy Boran" And call Mauythai in Tournament is "Mauy Weti" (Weti mean Ring). and Mauy Boran is well known in thai people. The problem here is a serious confusion on the foreigner end. Muay Boran right now is a generic term used by the phys ed department to create and control their own program for use in the school system now sold to foreigners and the like. Yes, Muay is the generic term as well as Muay Boran and can be used interchangeably with the original systems as a generic name but the confusion allows them to push their agenda thus brushing aside the original masters and systems. The older systems and masters still exist in tact from Muay Chiaya, Muay Korat, Muay Sakon Nakon, Muay lanna, Muay Ta Sao, etc. Those who doubt this whether thai or not, scholar or whatever-doesnt understand the situation nor the systems. So we now have a gulf - new phys ed muay boran and the older systems. Muay Boran people attempt to rewrite, control and erase the older systems by self promoting their own people and jumbling techniques together with endless names some of which don't even fit together. So yes chaiya is muay boran or muay but it is also one of the original systems with a complete arsenal, training philosophy, and progression which is different from Muay Korat, there is distinction between each system and the importance is for each system to remain intact regardless of modern Muay Boran. Muay Boran people don't understand the distinctions of the systems and the root philosophy or use so it becomes just organized confusion and gives them license to do as wish mostly to sell and for business practices under the guise of trying to survive these systems and showing it is all "one". Muay Systems[edit]

The author who suggested that Muay Korat is only performance oriented is seriously misguided. The system fully exists and is practiced and taught within Thailand as well as many other ancient systems. Overall article quality[edit]

The header of the article appears to suffer from a number of syntax errors(including at least one obvious repetition).
