In response to your query on the Spanish Missions of California talk page:

Information regarding the establishment of the Spanish missions in Mexico (including Baja California) is extremely limited when compared to those north of the border. Only now are some Mexican communities (i.e., Ensenada) realizing the potential of these sites as tourist destinations. I suggest you try to review some of the bios on Fr. Junípero Serra that may have background info on the work of the Jesuits prior to the Fransiscan order taking over the administration of the missions. I don't know where you live, but you may want to visit a site or sites that specifically interest you and spend some time examining primary source information (if such exists) as I doubt there will be much in the way of books or Internet resources...

By way of further clarification, "California missions" deals specifically with the 21 sites plus sub-stations that were founded within the boundaries of what today is the State of California. This distinction is important as these installations are specifically the product of the Fransiscan Order (the Jesuits founded those down south), and represent the first sustained European settlement efforts in Alta California. Hope this helps. I will be interested to read any articles you can produce on the missions of Mexico (which far outnumber those in the U.S.).

--Lordkinbote 02:54, May 12, 2005 (UTC)

Here's a link to California Missions at "The Catholic Encyclopedia" which has some great info on both Lower and Upper California as established b the Dominicans, Franciscans, and Jesuits. I've created a new page called Spanish Missions of California to serve as the top level page for this subject. It is now one of a series of articles dealing with this subject overall. Future related articles can be entitled Spanish Missions of México, for example (there are currently pages entitled Spanish Missions in Trinidad and Alamo Mission in San Antonio).

It would be great if you can take your list of missions and enumerate it again with dates as has been done with the Upper California missions.

--Lordkinbote 07:30, May 12, 2005 (UTC)

You seem to have a good handle on this, can you add the location information (name of town or city) beside each mission name as well?

--Lordkinbote 18:51, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

Didn't mean to screw you up, I took the list from The Catholic Encyclopedia entry I mentioned above which established the N-S order I've shown (it also gives founding dates, FYI). Perhaps your source is better, I'll leave it up to you to decide which should prevail. Also, you can still access your original list in the edit history should you need to.

Check out the article talk page regarding discussion of the title for the top-level article...

re: Thank you for your help on the missions[edit]

When I tried to move it, I got a message saying that I could not and to list it - maybe someone could look at that message? BTW, what are the criteria for being able to move pages? Thank you, Moomintrollmania 21:53, 14 May 2005 (UTC) PS is your name from Thief (computer game)?[reply]

Yeah, you have to have a certain number of edits (or was it time-based?), I don't quite recall what it is exactly. But you will get the power sooner than later...
hehe, yes it is from that game! Master Thief Garrett 01:40, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I can move pages for you if need be, FYI.--Lordkinbote 21:26, May 15, 2005 (UTC)

I second that, you want anything moved you could ask me too! Master Thief Garrett 03:33, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Baja Missions[edit]

I'll forward info to you on the various sites in no particular order; you can save it or delete each entry once you are done with it. One Internet source I saw puts the number of BC missions at 33 total (including visitas).

Misión San Francisco Javier de Viggé-Biaundó

Baja's first mission (?) is also described as one of the "true jewels of the Baja Mission system." It was founded on November 1, 1699 by the Jesuits; Father Juan de Ugarte assumed responsibility for the installation in 1701, and is located in the Giganta Sierra mountains 22 miles (32 km) west of Loreto. Its current state is said to be "stone reconstruction in excellent condition." The LORETO MISSION MUSEUM is located in downtown Loreto.

Enjoy! You have to read through some of the verbiage pretty carefully at times as whatever program is being used to translate Spanish to English doesn't always preserve the syntax.--Lordkinbote 21:59, May 15, 2005 (UTC)

Interested in an L.A.-area Wiki meetup?[edit]

It appears as though L.A. has never had a Wiki meetup. Would you be interested in attending such an event? If so, checkout User:Eric Shalov/Wikimeetup.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lindeman.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lindeman.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Please attribute or claim media you uploaded or restored: File:Brown pelican Baja 2005.jpg[edit]

You uploaded or restored , File:Brown pelican Baja 2005.jpg, but for various reasons did not add an {{information}} block, or indicate your (user) name on the file description page. Media uploaded to Wikipedia needs information on the SPECIFIC authorship and source of files, to ensure that it complies with copyright laws in various jurisdictions.

If it's entirely your own work:
please include {{own}} in the relevant source field, amend the {{information}} added by a third party, ensuring that your user name (or name you want used for attribution) is clear in the author field, and change the license to an appropriate "self" variant (if such a license is not already used). You should also add an |author= parameter to the license tag, to assist reviews and image patrollers.

When you have copmpleted the above steps: to indicate that you've accepted the given the license shown, and updated the file description page appropriately.

If it's not entirely your own work, or the media is based on the work of others:
Please update the source and authorship fields, so that they accurately reflect the source and authors of the original work(s), as well as the derivative you created. You should also not use a "self" license unless the work is entirely you own. Media that is incorrectly claimed as self or {{own}}, will eventually be listed at Files for Discussion or deleted, unless it's full status is entirely clear to other contributors, reviewers and image patrollers. You should also read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission which details how to confirm any permissions you obtained for works by others that are still in copyright.

Whilst this notification, relates to a single media upload, it would also be appreciated if you could ensure that appropriate attribution exists for other media you uploaded, You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If media is not claimed, and there's no other obvious source or authorship information, the file may have to be removed for copyright reasons.

It's okay to remove or strike messages like this once the concerns have been addressed. :). ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:10, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
