NPOV?[edit]

"He was the most important Christian scholar in Wales during the 20th century and is hailed as the giant of Protestantism in Wales during a century that saw Wales, as a whole, turn against its traditional reformed protestant theology."

I have some concerns about the neutrality of this article. Especially in regards to it's attitude towards liberal theology and secularisation. The article paints him as a crusader for good, whereas I have some doubt that those of a liberal/secular persuasion would be so overflowing in their praise. Protestantism contains the movement of liberalism and secularism, so it seems this is being written from POV of a conservative Protestant --Randolph 04:57, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Two separate points, both good. I think I'd argue that the most important Welsh scholar of Christianity in the twentieth century was Rowan Williams, now Archbishop of Canterbury. Perhaps something like, "He was a distinguished scholarly representative of conservative Protestantism in Wales during the Twentieth Century and is hailed as a leading exemplar of evangelicalism in Wales during a century that saw Wales, as a whole, move away from its traditional attachment to evangelical Protestantism."
Rowan Williams perhaps is the most "famous" theologian from Wales but i don't think it is fair to count him as a more prominent Welsh Christian Scholar beacuse Rowan Williams i.) never studied or taught at Welsh Universities or Seminary's ii.) never undertook nor published research about welsh religious history nor Welsh theology discourse. My professional opinion as a practicing theologian and church historian is that history will show R. Tudur Jones as the giant of 20th Century Welsh Christian theology - you must avail from writing history based on current news and events, everyone knows who Rowan Williams is now because he is still in office but in 50 years will it be his work or R. Tudur Jones's work will have the biggest legacy with relation to Welsh Christianity and theology? R. Tudur Jones i would argue. - Rhys

Jesus College, Oxford[edit]

Is there a reliable source that confirms that he studied there? If so, please add details so that he can be included on List of people associated with Jesus College, Oxford. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 23:09, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know, but Jesus College has had a history of distinguished Welsh students. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.95.30.227 (talk) 23:03, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know that, but he would need a proper reference to be included on the List (which I forgot to wikilink earlier). BencherliteTalk 10:24, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He didn't actully attend Jesus College but he was offered a scholarship to attend, notice the sentance that follows - "His father, however, insisted that he attend the University of Wales. " Rhys —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhys Llwyd (talkcontribs) 21:21, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but later it says: "Then he left Bangor for Oxford where he researched for his DPhil." In fact, Rhys, you added it. Your source was...? BencherliteTalk 21:30, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! Ok. He did attend Oxford (but not Jesus College though, he attended the congregationalist's college called Mansfield) for his D. Phil be he turned down the chance to do his BA there. My sources, erm, how about that i've read his Oxford D.Phil thesis and that I'm the R. Tudur Jones research scholarship holder at Bangor University's Theology Department, until my work is published you'll have to take my word for it! But seriously, I'm sure it's commented either in D. Densil Morgans chapter about R. Tudur Jones in his book 'Cedyrn Canrif' (2001) or Robert Pope's chpter about him in his book 'Codi Muriau Dinas Duw' (2005). Perhaps it's noted as well in the newly published Gwyddioniadur Cymreig, i have no copy at hand to look. - Rhys http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Rhys_Llwyd —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhys Llwyd (talkcontribs) 21:47, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fine - you've seen offline sources that confirm the college he attended was Mansfield, not Jesus, so I've changed the article and its categories accordingly. Thanks for clearing this one up for me! BencherliteTalk 22:27, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
