Welcome!

Hello, Telsa/archive 01, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

I'm assuming your new as you don't have a talk page yet! Deb 11:06, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Are you Telsa Gwynne? Or maybe you'd rather not say. Deb 17:17, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with you about "frequent edits". I know there are some people around who do them for the wrong reason (for example, someone I was constantly in dispute with over the factual accuracy of a particular article, and she used to do loads of little edits to it, in the hope that I would only look at her last change and not notice the previous ones) but I don't see that they are in themselves a bad thing. CZJ and Welsh[edit]

Hellow :)

I remember reading, when she was introduced here in America with Zero, that she and Anthony Hopkins both spoke fluent Welsh while on the set. Hopkins is also from south Wales, and Zeta-Jones appearently has just set up house in Swansea.

To be truthful I dont know how fluent she might be, thus the question. I am atempting to learn a bit of Welsh, and thought if I saw a big Hollywood Star speaking it it might help. Thank you for your response though!!! Let me know if you find out anything!Drachenfyre

I just reread the artical! and now it saws she is a native Welsh speaker! someone updated that because previously it was not there. lol.Drachenfyre

I can not go to her fansite atm as I am at work, but maybe we can post a question there? I am sure she would list her Welsh credits as she seems very proud of her heritage.Drachenfyre

Did you know?[edit]

Sutcliff book articles[edit]

I marked these article as stubs purely on the length of the articles. Judging a book by its cover, so to speak. I do not know anything about the subject matter so cannot provide any expansion points. Whether or not to leave the stub tag is up to you. Don't be put off by it. :) --TheParanoidOne 19:18, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welsh people[edit]

Yes, I tend to agree with you about the need for such a category -- it exists for some other "races" (for want of a better word). There is also a List of Welsh people, of course. I don't think I feel strongly enough to actually do anything about it, though. Deb 15:56, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I think I will keep my hands off "Welsh" while you're working on it. You've got lots of ideas and I look forward to having more to choose from. A while ago I created Anglo-Welsh literature and Anglo-Welsh poetry, which might also come in handy. Deb 16:25, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

A late welcome[edit]

Telsa,

You were clearly missed in Stuttgart. The Iranian delegation there, which included three girls, definitely wanted to meet you as the most influential woman in GNOME, to say the least.

I don't know why I don't hear from you, but collaboration with you at the Wikipedia is something I look forward to. roozbeh 17:01, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

Aww, I didn't know you were at Guadec. As for not hearing from me, where? Have I missed an email? I shall check! --Telsa 08:52, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I guess I sent you something about the CLDR project and Welsh data. But you were also somehow silent on lists like gnome-i18n, weren't you? roozbeh 09:39, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)

I created a short stub because I knew it was about to become the UK COTW (I'm going to update the COTW page as soon as I've posted this :-) - so go ahead and do any of your planned edits! -- Joolz 18:01, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Here's the link for the COTW by the way. I think the plans for it would be similar to English people and Scottish people -- Joolz 18:05, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hiya back![edit]

Thanks for the greeting. :-) Yes, we seem to be on the same wavelength on the Half-Blood Prince. It's pretty difficult to find a good balance between size and information, but you have a pretty good handle on that from what I've seen. --Deathphoenix 13:40, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not surprisingly, I fully agree with you. I like the books, but I don't believe in bloating all the articles involved with it. Such articles get accused of being too crufty. I've done some work on The Belgariad and its characters, for example, but I wouldn't think of blowing these things up to the level I've seen some of the articles here. It's because Harry Potter has such a huge fan base who care very deeply about it. I think we represent the fanbase that likes it, but wants some moderation in its coverage here. --Deathphoenix 15:45, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yet Another London Wikimeet[edit]

Heya Telsa,

As I might have mentioned on IRC, we're organising another London meetup, for Sunday the 11th of September; specifics still to work out, but it will probably be fun as ever, and involve a few drinks and a nice chat in a pub. We'd love to see you there...

Archiving talk pages[edit]

Hi Telsa. I've already archived Talk:Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but you expressed an interest in learning how to archive a talk page. Take a look at the following: Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. I'll admit that it's terribly complicated, but after a while, you'll make up your own procedures (I have ;-) ).

I also have a different method that I use for archiving my own talk page, which you can use if you wish (or you could just use the above method for archiving your talk page as well).

The simplest way is to click the "move" link above the article, and type in the new name. This is somewhat dangerous for large pages containing active discussions, because it moves the entire page: you can't choose which discussions to keep. However, I love it because it preserves the history in the new archive page. I used this method for archiving my own talk page, since it wasn't terribly active, and I know exactly when the conversations closed. Therefore, you can do the following:

  1. Click the "move" above your Talk page.
  2. In the "New title" field, type User talk:Telsa/Archive1
  3. When it's completed, go back to User talk:Telsa, and remove all the text (which should look something like #REDIRECT [[User talk:Telsa/Archive1]]

Good luck! --Deathphoenix 15:00, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. As I said, the process isn't nearly as complicated as it looks (in fact, I just did a very simple cut & paste into a new /Archive1 and /Archive2 article when I did it), but I don't know if I'll be gutted like a fish by other folks if I suggest using my method without looking at the proper documentation first ;-). --Deathphoenix 16:01, 21 July 2005 (UTC) Oh, and by the way, I'd recommend against the Monolithic approach. It's easy, but not a good way to do it, IMO. --Deathphoenix 16:04, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

See you![edit]

No idea what away on assignment might mean, but good luck, and see you at the other side of it :) --Telsa 14:55, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words. It just means that I'm out of the country. Of course, I guess I still couldn't stop checking out Wikipedia. Ah, well. :-) --Deathphoenix 02:04, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any want for this image? If not, if you were to remove it from your talk page, I could get it removed from the wikipedia as an orphan. Dmn Դմն 21:37, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I just noticed the name had changed on a preview of the Wales match and fixed it (I've no connection to Swansea myself, save an open day visit to the uni). The Classic Serial strand[edit]

Further to your comments on the talk page at BBC television drama, I've added a mention of the Sunday serials to the Golden Age section of the article. It runs thus: Family-audience based period dramas, often adaptations such as The Eagle of the Ninth (1977), were popular on Sunday afternoons, with the Classic Serial strand which ran there becoming something of an institution until the early 1990s.

Obviously it's not much, but there's a lot to cover and the Classic Serials could probably do with an article of their own at some point. Angmering 00:08, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose it really depends on what you count as part of that strand. After all, this year's version of Kidnapped, with Paul McGann, was shown on Sunday late afternoons / early evenings and was very much a part of that tradition. Angmering 13:12, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Swansea[edit]

Hey Telsa, thanks for pointing out the date on the leisure centre (Maritime Quarter). Archiving Talk:Swansea sounds good - it's a pretty well developed article now. Just one other thing, may I suggest that the transport section be reduced somewhat - it looks awfully big in a article that is talking about the Swansea region. It looks like an essay in itself about "Transport in Swansea". (left by Thobius)

Hello there boyo/girlo. I've been attacking the Category:Cardiff page cos it was very cluttered, and was thinking about having more subcategories, a la Category:London. Stuff like Category:Culture of Cardiff, Category:Sport in Cardiff and maybe later Category:Geography of Cardiff. There were some places, like Thornhill, Wales, Tiger Bay, Michaelston-super-Ely, Rhiwbina that don't claim in the article they're districts. Could you shed light on the matter or maybe give me a pointer? Thanks --Dangherous 10:34, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bob Peck[edit]

Hi Telsa. I agree with you completely. It seems weird to have an article on Peck that says "he was most famous for Jurassic Park", especially when the photo caption said he was best known for Edge of Darkness! So I re-wrote it and hedged a bit, saying something like "best known to UK audiences for Edge, later familiar to Americans for Jurassic Park. JW 15:53, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bron-y-Aur[edit]

Hiya. You requested a song infobox on the article Bron-Y-Aur. I'm not altogether sure how to do this. The article is about a place. The two songs are mentioned, but if you want to create giant infoboxes, might it not be better to create [Bron-y-Aur (song)] and [Bron yr Aur Stomp (song)] to contain them? They look otherwise as though they will swamp the article. I'm not saying you have to. I'm just suggesting it's a thought. Thanks. --Telsa 16:30, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for noticing my mistake. I was adding the song infobox request template to a whole bunch of Led Zeppelin songs earlier today, and I must have missed that their song Bron-y-Aur has an article on Wikipedia that deals with a Welsh village. Once again, thanks for your keen eye. -- SoothingR(pour) 17:13, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gelert and Nuttall[edit]

Sure, sure make a redirect by all means. Many of the Nuttall entries are spelled "spechiallie", and while I've done my best to find other spellings....sometimes I miss the already-done article. Thanks for the catch.  ;-) Womble 17:03, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again.
Per Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Literary_works, I'd create two stubs, The Silver Branch (Rosemary Sutcliff novel) and The Silver Branch (Patricia Kennealy novel). Make The Silver Branch into a clean disambig, perhaps with a redirect from The silver branch if you feel like it.
As to the source of the titles, maybe in an interview somewhere the author(s) have mentioned where it comes from, but other wise put in the see also something like "The_Voyage_of_Bran, a celtic myth prominantly featuring a silver branch." But you can't say "This is almost certainly the origin for the title of both books" unless someone else has said it somewhere first, no matter how obvious it is.

Oh, and have a look at my disambig clean-up: [2].

Wales related Categories[edit]

Hi Telsa, I wasn't so much deleting them, I was trying to rationalise them. The use categories as they stood were a bit of a mess. Some articles were in both Glamorgan and a sub category of Glamorgan, and the whole category of Glamorgan was getting so big as to become almost meaninglesss. There were also loads of articles of places that belonged within Glamorgan that were not categorised as glamorgan but where in some cases not categorised at all, or just categoriesd within their contemporary administrative county.

With places, in most cases they are being discussed in the contemporary sense and I think they should go into their administrative counties, which in many cases fall within the borders of older counties like Glamorgan and hence a sub-category is appropriate. In many cases administrative counties can go into sub categories of older counties which contain many of the newer counties, this is a way of linking a place to an older county. I know things can get a bit tricky where places have shifted between counties and there are overlaps, this is probably better explained in the article itself - if the writers of the article really care that much about the history of boundaries.

I don't think I've touched any historical articles and I agree that if a more historical article is more appropriately categorised as Glamorgan it should stay there. (Sloman 22:22, 27 November 2005 (UTC))[reply]

Zeta-Jones[edit]

Hi, it isn't really that Wikipedia is split on the nationality/ethnicity debate, its just that people who try to place a certain part of a person's ethnicity in the header (usually because they are of that ethnicity) are quite visible and quite pushy. Basically the nationality should go in the header not ethnicity. Thanks Arniep 16:06, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the Badger-baiting article and the books I utilized are referenced on that page. In addition, websites are noted in the External links section. The description you gave was/is basically correct; however, it was quite brief so I expanded it. The meaning of your words is not lost in the expanded version. In answer to your timeline question, badger-baiting was employed heavily in England during the 1800s and continues today with the approximate death of 10,000+ badgers annually. Me[edit]

Hey! I dare say I'll still monitor my watchpages for the pages I most care about (that is, the ones wot I wrote), but I can't see myself making any more big edits. I appreciate that Wikipedia needs better sourcing for its articles, but it seems that whoever is creating all those templates doesn't understand the difference between information and meta-information. They make the articles so damned ugly. It's just not the same Wikipedia as it used to be. Varitek 09:19, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Bron-Y(r)-Aur[edit]

According to this page, which clearly shows the signs directing individuals towards the lodge, the correct spelling of this location is in fact "Bron-Yr-Aur". Therefore, I feel that the article should be placed under that title and "Bron-Y-Aur", the common misspelling, should be redirected to "Bron-Yr-Aur". I understand that the above information may not be 100% accurate and if you find more credible information simply contact me and we can discuss further the correct placement of the article. Nobility article[edit]

You asked (some time ago) for a rewrite of the article on Nobility. I have since rewritten large chunks of it, including many of the sentences that you highlighted as inadequate. You also pointed out that the article needed to distinguish between those characteristics which apply to all nobles and those which apply only in Western/European nations; I have created a new section on "non-Western nobility" to address this problem. As I feel that I have solved all the major problems with the article, I have deleted the rewrite bar. Please read the article, and feel free to tell me (on my talk page) if you don't like my changes.
