Merge each list[edit]

Name Changes[edit]

I have noticed that there are some entries which are actually refering to former names of still existing airlines. Should we set a convention such that former names should have a seperate category? There are actually other complications to consider, since while we have some so-called "former airlines" which are still operating under a new name with a new management, there are also "name changes" which actually involves the ceasation of former companies in whole or part. Most problematic will be airlines which end up being split into two seperate companies. Should the original airline be listed as a defunct airline or not? Defunct Airline Project[edit]

Though I have not started any official WikiProject, I am beginning a project to begin making Wikipedia pages on defunct airlines, since many of them, especially regional airlines of the 1960s-1990s do not have pages here. These airlines are of great interest because airlines such as these cannot exist today due to the strength of the major airlines. While there are some small regional airline companies, almost all are dba a larger airline, such as US Airways.

I think it is extremely interesting to see some of the locations served by these airlines. I strive when I begin a new article on a defunct airline to look where they served, because often times these small regional airlines served airports that are not served today, such as Dutchess County Airport in Poughkeepsie, New York, and Oneida County Airport in Utica, New York, etc.

I have started articles for Brockway Air, Command Airways, and Empire Airlines (1976-1985) so far (I started the project today). Recently I've been working on expanding some stubs for defunct regional airlines from the 1940s - 1960s. The one that's most complete at this point is Pacific Air Lines, which was one of the three airlines that merged into Air West, later renamed Hughes Airwest. I also try to expand articles about airliner crashes that deserve more details. I just did some nitpicky cleanup on the U.S. section of the defunct airlines list, to bring the entries into a more uniform format. I picked the most predominant format already in use in the US section, and used that in changing the ones that didn't conform. - Itsfullofstars 22:01, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina)[edit]

I changed Srpska (Croatia) to (Bosnia and Herzegovina) but maybe Srpska should be under the Bosnia and Herzegovina heading. I'm a newbie so I'm not sure. 211.31.8.240 13:09, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Split of defunct US airlines[edit]

Support The US is big enough to support its own list. List as a whole is quite hard to navigate around, maybe it should be split by continents? - Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Australasia & Oceana, Africa. Mjroots (talk) 08:41, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also support making the US defunct airlines a separate article, also the United Kingdom. They are too big and if India has been made a separate article with so few airlines compared to the USA and UK, why not do it. I agree with Mjroots to divide it by continents. Citations[edit]

There are still no citations on this list some two months after it was tagged. Perhaps it is time to delete the article? Abtract (talk) 19:52, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly disagree with your suggestion we should delete this article. First I want to point out this in not an article; it has been categorised as a List. The citations can be found within many of the individual articles of the airlines. Many of the airlines listed are blue-text, with wiki articles of their own. Those articles cover, in most cases, the history of the airline, with the date it operational status changed, and may have the reason (merged, bought, bankruptcy, etc). A list is just that, a list, with links to individual articles. We might hope that every airline has its own article, but that is highly unlikely. Why would you suggest we delete a list?
