Heh. Club Kung Fu was their best song so far, I think. As for Triinu, I think its about being comprehensive, and the top is a long way from there, and on long articles acts like a summary. I think mentioned her exact birthdate is needed for the reader's sake, as they won't think to look to the top if they want to know it. Hi again Jess, I see you did some cleanup work on the Kirsty article again. I had tried to summarize directly from the Guardian article on the Justice for Kirsty website. I've seen a few different amounts for the fine....I did know that the basic criminal fine ended up being under $30 American, which made me sick to my stomach....that's why I've been trying to encourage news outlets here to run the story and direct attention to what happened. I understand everything that you have said and I agree. However, all this does not matter because the offcial entry of Serbia and Montenegro was first in 2004.
I think that the first entry of S&M must be in 2004 unless the official entry of S&M has been changed to 1992. Everything else and the opinions of the Eurovison fans and your and mine opinion and this and that does not matter because the official entry must be the one that counts and not our personal views.

Yes you're quite right: the entries from Yugoslavia were chosen in nation-wide selections, and no-one said "Right - this year we'll have someone from Slovenia". However, that is not what I ever meant to imply in the first place :)
The reason I mentioned the "constituent states" is to make clear that the "Yugolsavia" in question is the one which comprised those states - as opposed to the "Yugoslavia" which has been synonymous with Serbia in more recent times.

Why did you disimprove the date of foundation of the club in the article? In Germany there is a hard but right saw: "Shut up, if you don't know the first thing." About two weeks ago, I was bold and decided that our entire WikiProject needed to be reorganized. I am seeking to put into effect new guidelines on page layouts, templates, and basically to make all related articles consistent. Part of this reorganization included improving our assessment department since one didn't really exist before and completely reformatting the main page.
Also, it is my opinion that the project be renamed "WikiProject Eurovision Song Contest" and that the Junior Eurovision Song Contest be officially included. I believe that the Eurovision Dance Contest should be separate since it shares nothing in common aside from the EBU.
We also need to work on bringing new members into this project; especially during these months when not much is going on in the Eurovision world. If you would like to invite someone to join the WikiProject, our invitation template on their talk page. Now is when we need to get our project's pages up to par for next year's contest and make everything as accurate and in depth as possible. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for the project on either my talk or the project's.

De Toppers were announced as the Dutch entry for the 2009 contest.
Estonia announced its participation in the 2009 contest, despite requests by the Estonian Minister of Culture to withdraw due to the 2008 war in South Ossetia.
Slovakia announced its return to the contest after an 11-year absence.
The Bulgarian national final, "Be A Star", will start October 2 with 45 songs.

Welcome to the third edition of the WikiProject Eurvision newsletter! This newsletter is surely catching on, and I'm sure that if we continue to rotate the editors' section as much as possible, everyone'll get a chance to contribute and it'll definitely be more diverse.
The project is still in need of re-organising. Nothing has happened in the form of splitting the project between the song and dance contests in over a month, and I feel that we really need to push forward with this. Throughout September, a lot of things have happened in relation to the Eurovision Song Contest 2009; the announcement of the return of the jury into the final was the biggest news. However, more news appeared, such as the Dutch representative being announced, as well as more countries announcing their participation at the contest. Before long the national finals around Europe will start, and the countdown will be on to 16 May.
With everything that's been happening, I'd like to encourage everyone to do their best to contribute to all Eurovision-related Wikipedia articles, and welcome our new members to the project.

Eurovision News
Malta announced the names of the songs taking part in its national final.
Hadise will represent Turkey and will have complete control over the selection of her song.
Andorra and Romania announced the format of their national finals.
Bulgaria's Be A Star has gone into full swing with the first monthly selection and its corresponding heats held in October.
The songs of Melodifestivalen 2009 were announced along with the contest's schedule of rounds.
Welcome to the fourth edition of the WikiProject Eurvision newsletter! As the contest gets into full swing, more and more editors will come and edit the project's articles. It is important that we not only make sure that the correct information is added, but try to help the users who added the information if possible. November is unique in that it will have two newsletters going out. This one along with a November supplement that will recap what happened in November. We decided to switch to an end of the month format so say the October Newsletter summarizes what happened in October, which it doesn't in its current first day of the month delivery. By December, the newsletter will come out at the end of every month.
So far I am very happy with how the project is going about four months after its reorganization. We get into arguments here and there, but members' opinions and comments are crucial to the project's existence. They keep us on our toes and help us continue to be a great source of Eurovision history.

Just a couple of short months after starting the newsletter and reorganizing the Eurovision project, things are finally starting to look good and consistent for 2009!
As we move into December, and ever closer to the "heart" of the National Final/Selection season, I would like to remind members to take a look at the project description/guideline on the project page and try to follow it the best way possible as the season progresses. Our main goal here is to have all of the articles consistent, while also being able to nominate them for GA status or above once the 2009 contest is over. The best and easiest way to achieve this is if we all work together and follow the guidelines. I would also like to remind users to source all information added into articles, preferably by reliable/established sources. Any questions regarding sources should be asked on the project talk page. Also, there is a large backlog of 1087 Unassessed Eurovision articles that need to be assessed. Any help with assessment will be appreciated and noted.
If we can manage to work together and follow the guidelines, as well as monitoring unregistered IP addresses, I think the 2009 season will go by much easier than past years! Sure we will still get into our little arguments here and there, and have different opinions about editing, but that's part of the whole editing experience. What fun would there be without the occasional drama? Just remember that at the end of the day, we are all working towards a common goal.

Welcome to the seventh edition of the WikiProject Eurovision newsletter! It has been a busy month full of national finals and homework for school, so I apologize for publishing the newsletter so late.
The deadline for choosing the entries is right around the corner and following its passing, we will have a great opportunity to improve the quality of the articles in our project. There are many song stubs that have been created for the entries this year and I would like to see them expanded into coherent articles. Also, I think we need to take a look back at the "Country in ESC 2009" articles because I have noticed that most of them are out of date and need to be updated.
We need to focus more on quality these days instead of just adding new info wherever it fits. Our goals is not to jam as much info onto a page as we can, but to create an encyclopedia that people can read and learn from. Think about that next time you add something. Maybe take a minute to read the article over and fix any evident spelling, grammar, or flow problems. Everyone needs to do their share to make this a successful project.

Eurovision News
All of the 2009 entries have been chosen. Check out the table of entries to see which song will represent each country.
Georgia withdrew from this year's contest once again, after concern that the lyrics of "We Don't Wanna Put In" violated Contest rules.
Music videos have been released on the official Eurovision YouTube channel. The United Kingdom and other countries that missed the deadline still released music videos for their songs.
Countries have begun to finalize their songs, with Albania's "Më merr në ëndërr" being translated into English, and other songs being tweaked.

Welcome to the eighth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter! It's been one incredible month with all 42 entrants finalising their songs.
In one weekend we found out the winner of Melodifestivalen 2009, the song the Czech Repbulic had selected and also that the Georgian entry, "We Don't Wanna Put In", had been disqualified!
The running order draw took place on March 16th and Montenegro will open the 2009 contest, just like they did last year, having been drawn 1st in Semi Final 1. Spain got to pick their position for the 2009 final, and they will perform 25th. The UK got a much better draw than last year and will perform 23rd. Other notable draws see that Bosnia and Herzegovina will close the first semi final, Croatia will open semi final two and the Netherlands will close it.
In terms of articles: some "Country in the ESC 2009" pages are still short compared to more detailed articles like the Sweden and Lithuania pages. The "At Eurovision" and "Promo" sections in these articles need to be updated as many have released promo videos, updated their songs and changed elements of their stage productions. The Greece and UK articles are the best representatives of these features.
Arguments have erupted over the language of the Bosnian entry. No official source has been found yet and the 4LYRICS source is questionable due to an on-going argument in the comments section on the "Bistra voda" lyrics page. The overall concensus on the language used in the song is Bosnian so please, no more changes to the language!

Welcome to the ninth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
We're less than a month away from the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 and now is the time to make sure that all articles are the best that they can be. This is our busiest time and thousands of people will come to Wikipedia and will see our work. We need to show them that Wikipedia is a place to come for facts and a site that they can rely on.
I can't emphasize enough how important it is for members to take part in discussions on talk pages. We have 65 members and usually less than five people step up and comment. Editing Wikipedia means is being part of a community. Take pride in what you do here and make your positions known!

F. Y. R. Macedonia is threatening to withdraw from the 2010 Contest with the reasoning that it has come tenth twice in successive years in the semi final stage, but has failed to proceed to the final in both instances.
More than a dozen countries have already confirmed their participation for the 2010 Contest. The countries confirmed so far can be seen here.

This month was a very busy month in terms of editing and adding to Eurovision 2009 articles. The 2009 contest is now over but there is still much work to be done.
Some Country in ESC 2009 pages are yet to have their "At Eurovision" sections updated. Some countries need more information than others, e.g. Slovenia's article needs to mention that the song was actually sung in Slovenian and English, and not just English like in the official mp3, etc.
Work has begun on the 2010 contest article already. Please do not add sections to the article about confirmed participants or withdrawn participants unless you have a source!

A tag has been placed on Sami Muduroglu requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Following recent disputes relating to sourcing in Eurovision articles, an RfC has been opened on the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on reliable sources for Eurovision articles. The dispute particularly focuses on use of ESCToday and Oikotimes as sources in articles. The RfC is suffering from lack of participation; all project members are encouraged to state their opinion.
Project members are reminded that text and images in articles must follow Wikipedia's copyright policies. Text must not be copied out or copied and pasted into articles from websites whose material is not under a Wikipedia compatible free license. Fully copyrighted text includes that from the EBU (Eurovision.tv), ESCToday, and Okiotimes. Images must also not be uploaded onto Wikimedia Commons for use in Eurovision articles unless they are under a free license, this does not include most images on the internet or TV screen shots even if they were taken by the uploader. Copyrighted images may be uploaded onto the English Wikipedia (not Commons) for use in Eurovision articles if a valid claim of fair use can be made, note that the criteria are strict.

Things are beginning to quiet down now that the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest is behind us, which is the project's busiest time of year. A few of us however still had to slow down during this period, including myself, as May and June also happens to be exam season in multiple parts of the world. There is much still to be done in any case with preparations for the 2010 Song Contest now well under way, and the host city, Oslo, now confirmed.
There are several items that this project needs to debate including choices of sourcing and what contests come under the banner of this project. The first of these items is already being addressed at a new RfC (see left). Further ideas that could be developed include creation of some article guidelines for Eurovision articles. This could start as an advisory essay and then later, if consensus permits, become an official Wikipedia guideline. Examples of these already in existence include Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines and Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines.

The RfC on article sourcing was closed by Moonriddengirl (talk·contribs) as an uninvolved editor. The decisions were for each source:
ESCToday: Reliable
ESCKaz: Semi-reliable
ESCTime: Not reliable
Oikotimes: No consensus
More details on the decision as well as the full RfC can be found on the project talk page. The decisions made in the RfC will likely impact on future drafts of the article guidelines. Please note that further use of Oikotimes and ESCTime is discouraged and existing uses should be replaced with reliable sources. If no other source exists for the information, leave the current source for the time being.
Due to a new naming convention relating to the use of the term "FYR Macedonia", the Republic of Macedonia should be referred to as "Macedonia" in Eurovision articles. Mention of the country's participation in the Contest under the name "FYR Macedonia" should be written in the lead of articles such as Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest, though it is not necessary to express this fact in the general Contest articles.
Two months after the 2009 Contest ended, the EBU revealed the full jury and televoting results for each country on its website. The results showed that Norway was the winner of both the jury and the televoting, while many placings would have changed had no jury voting taken place.
Georgia announced its return to the Contest, while the Czech Republic will withdraw from the 2010 Contest.

It has been a very slow couple of months in terms of Eurovision news since the passing of the 2009 Contest, however, it has been a very busy time for guidelines and policies affecting our project. Landmark decisions have been made regarding our use of sources and even how we are to refer to Macedonia. In addition, several of our Good Articles have been delisted as part of a task force charged with maintaining the quality of Wikipedia's Good Articles.
With there being less information to add and therefore less to do for some, we need to focus on the upkeep and quality of our project's articles and getting those inactive members active once again. We can do this by making sure all new guidelines and naming policies are adhered to and by working to move articles up the quality scale. We are a WikiProject and we all work towards a similar goal. Introduce yourself to your fellow members and get active!

There has been some discussion on if a monthly newsletter is viable. The current result is not clear, though it appears for the time being months will simply be skipped as necessary when project activity is low.
There has been a heated debate on how to deal with criticism and controversy in Eurovision Song Contest article, with a proposal made to re-organise articles to avoid dedicated "controversy" and "criticism" sections in order to have maximum neutral point of view policy compliance.
The RTL Group has declared that they are seriously considering a return of Luxembourg to the Eurovision Song Contest for 2010.
Azerbaijan's participation in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest has been put in doubt following controversial actions which are believed to have occurred after the 2009 Contest. Azerbaijan has denied that any questioning of individuals over voting in the contest has occurred.
Welcome to the thirteenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
August 2009 will not be remembered as a good month for WikiProject Eurovision. The number of this newsletter might have something to do with it, other possible explanations include circumstances, time of year, and even just coincidence. In any case we have had no new members and no further GA or FA article promotions.
The demotion of Eurovision Song Contest, probably the most important article on the project, was a historic blow. Reasons for this and other demotions in recent months include an inflation of article standards, article deterioration through inappropriate edits, and possibly inappropriate promotions in some cases.
We should remember however that despite these demotions we still have 2 FAs, 9 GAs, and 41 B-class articles, as well as 2 Featured Lists. This is a big achievement for a project with only 75 members, a small amount compared to other projects. To compare WikiProject Schools has 292 members with no newsletter, and WikiProject Video games has a massive 1,298 members with only a quarterly newsletter.
This project will likely be disadvantaged for a long time to come with limited membership and fluctuating activity during the year, but it will grow out of this blip.

This is the first edition of the WikiProject Eurovision newsletter in a bimonthly format. Following a discussion on the project talk page this may now become the regular format for the newsletter during the months that the project is less active.
A proposal was made to change Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers) to discourage the use of numeric dates, primarily YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2009-08-12 for 12 August 2009), in footnotes as at present it is only discouraged in the main article body. The proposal now seems unlikely to pass due to large levels of opposition, though it could have had a large impact on this project as the date format YYYY-MM-DD is frequently used in Eurovision for reference publication and access dates. Further discussion can be found on the project talk page.
Eurovision News
31 countries have confirmed their participation in the 2010 Contest. ESCToday has suggested that the Eurovision Song Contest may be entering a crisis due to the possibility of a large drop in the number of participants next year with the ongoing international recession hitting the budgets of many broadcasters in Europe.
Luxembourg and Monaco have both ruled out a return to the Eurovision Song Contest for 2010. A decision by San Marino on if to return or not has not yet been made.
Hungary declared it is pulling out of the Eurovision Song Contest due to the financial difficulties of the national broadcaster Magyar Televízió (MTV).
National selection details for the 2010 Contest are now available for sixteen countries. Despite the contest being over six months away, Bulgaria has already announced that the artist that will represent the country in 2010 will be Miroslav Kostadinov (who is frequently referred to as Miro).
It has been announced that the voting system used for the Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals will change in 2010. The previous system was introduced in 2008 along with the first use of two semi-finals; it involved nine out of ten final places per semi-final being determined exclusively by televote, with the tenth place being determined by juries. This will be replaced by a more balanced 50% jury voting, 50% televoting system.
Javine Hylton was also nominated for GA status but was quickly failed due to a large number of concerns. The nominator, Judo112 (talk·contribs), was later found to be a sock puppet of a previously blocked user.

There have been quite a few updates to the 2010 Contest article since 1 September. Nine countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Serbia, and Slovenia) have confirmed their participation, and the article in general has seen many changes. Sadly, whilst some editors have been working hard to provide reliable sources, others have been less thorough and the article has had to be semi-protected again to prevent further disruption. This is a shame, as ideally anyone should be able to edit; however, the talk page is always available to bring new information to light.
The participating countries' section has also been updated to allow the inclusion of information about the language, artist and song (with an English translation as appropriate), although to date this is very much a work in progress. As news comes in, we look forward to enriching this section in the coming months—backed-up of course with sources!
No new country-specific articles have been written these past two months. If you want to add more detailed information about a country's participation in the 2010 Contest, this is the ideal way to do it, and they are very much appreciated by our readers.

This is the second edition of the newsletter to be in a bimonthly format. This will probably continue at least up until the next Eurovision Song Contest when the project is more active.
Editors are reminded that some articles covered WikiProject Eurovision are subject to the biographies of living persons policy. This does not just include biography articles such as Alexander Rybak, but any article with material related to living persons. Such information is highly sensitive, and unsourced or poorly sourced material about living persons must be removed immediately. Material which may seen trivial to editors, such as a false claim of participation in a contest, can potentially be highly sensitive to the living persons involved.
Eurovision articles on this project have been repeatedly subject to a form of sneaky vandalism. This involves unregistered users adding false information to articles such as Eurovision Song Contest 2010 (while unprotected). These false claims are then made to look legitimate through the use of "fake references" with false titles and links, example. Cuchufleta (talk·contribs) was blocked indefinitely for creating multiple hoax articles with the same editing technique. Editors are advised to look out for further disruption of this kind, as it seems to be originating from a determined individial or an organised group. Eurovision News
The EBU released their participants list for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on 31 December 2009. 39 countries will take part. Five of these qualify directly to the final, with the 34 remaining countries each competing in one of two semi-finals (seventeen per semi-final).
Five countries have declared they will be withdrawing from the contest in 2010. The Czech Republic are withdrawing due to three semi-final failures and a lack of interest from Czech viewers. Andorra, Hungary, Lithuania, and Montenegro have all declared they are withdrawing for financial reasons.
Georgia is the only country that has declared it will be returning to the contest.
No debuts are planned either with Liechtenstein's only broadcaster 1FLTV having ruled out joining the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for December 2009. This made a debut by the country for the 2010 Contest no longer possible.
Despite the 2010 Contest being many months away countries are now actively declaring which artists and songs will be representing them at the contest. A table for this can be found at Eurovision Song Contest 2010#Participants. Nearly all of the declared participants now have dedicated entry articles.

Another decade has past for the Eurovision Song Contest. The naughties will probably be remembered as a decade of both success and controversy for the contest.
Televoting reached its peak in the early 2000s. This gave the contest a more democratic edge, but by 2008 it was widely believed to have made Eurovision resemble a political and geographic football match rather than a song contest. The EBU took action in 2009 by reducing televoting to having only a 50% weighting in the results of each contest.
Many new countries have joined the contest in the last decade, bringing the number of participants to a new high. Among this some countries withdrew while others returned, though one of the major missing countries, Italy, did not make a return as was hoped by many.
There was not a shortage of controversy either. Two participants went to war, and the buzz over the planned participation of Kosovo put Eurovision in the middle of a political storm. One also cannot forget that this decade saw the introduction of two spin-off contests - the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and the Eurovision Dance Contest. It is still not fully clear on how these fit into this project, perhaps we will work that out during the tens.

The articles by quality table has been changed for all WikiProjects as a result of changes to the WP 1.0 bot. Due to these changes editors are encouraged to add the {{EurovisionNotice}} banner to the talk pages of categories, files, templates, portals, disambiguation pages, as well as articles and project pages. This has the benefit of making the table more complete and covering such pages under article alerts.
An FAQ has been created for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 page in an attempt to mitigate repetitive discussions on the talk page about content in the article. This has not been previously done for a Eurovision article, though they are also used in other high profile areas such as Barack Obama and global warming.
There has been persistent problems on Anna Vissi related articles with a disruptive IP hopping editor making repeated sweeping and unwanted changes to the articles despite being asked to stop. An account that displayed similar behaviour, JORJKIE.AV (talk·contribs), has now been blocked indefinitely and some pages have had to be semi-protected for long periods.
On 7 February 2010 a draw was held to decide which semi-final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest each country will participate in. The draw also decided, for countries qualified straight to the final, which semi-final they will vote in.
Notable confirmed changes to the format of the Eurovision Song Contest this year include that the semi-finals will now be divided into two halves, and that voting will be open throughout each show rather than only after all entries have preformed.
It was announced in January 2010 that the Third Eurovision Dance Contest has been postponed a second time. It was originally due to be held in 2009, but was then postponed till 2010, and may now not happen at all, at least within the next two years. The EBU have justified the decision by saying there has been a decline in the popularity of TV dance shows.

Welcome to the sixteenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
We're in full swing now! Although the Eurovision Song Contest is around 2 months away, this is probably one of the busiest times of the year for the WikiProject, with a whole load of semi-finals, quarter finals, heats as well as national finals to see who the country chooses to represent them at this years Eurovision Song Contest.
We now know which of the 35 countries will vote and perform in which semi-final. With the 'Big Four' and host country, Germany and Spain voting in the first semi-final and France, Norway and the United Kingdom in the second semi-final.
With 22 out of the 39 countries decided, we are just about half way through, with a whole lot more to come!
So when creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to add sources either from Eurovision.tv, ESCToday or other reliable sources.
Please get involved, and contribute anything to articles whether it's a little spelling mistake or a whole new paragraph, and remember to look at the talk pages and have your say on any discussions that may be present.
The project currently has 80 members, with two joining and two leaving in January and February. One user left due to retirement, another due to being blocked indefinitely.

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Due to the article alert bot being out of service indefinitely, it is now much more difficult for newsletter staff to keep up-to-date with all project activity. If editors wish to be sure that an article achievement or Eurovision news story is included in the newsletter, it is important that they let the newsletter writers know about it.
Project News
There is currently a proposal to restructure this WikiProject and further define its scope. All members are strongly encouraged to comment.
The Newsletter Department is looking for editors who are willing to help publish the newsletter. Once published every month, a lack of help forced it to be published less and less often. Interested editors are welcome to suggest news, gather information, and suggest improvements.

According to our quality statistics, most articles are assessed. It is important to point out that articles are edited everyday! Take some initiative and confirm that the WikiProject Eurovision assessment for the article you are working on matches its condition and update it if necessary. We use the general assessment scale created by the Editorial Team.
Members have been joining very slowly. A good project has as many members as possible and this helps in discussions and editing so that members are not overwhelmed. If every member could invite a friend or acquaintance using our invitation template, it would make our project much more efficient. One little edit on a friend's talk page? Why not, it takes two seconds!
The membership list was recently re-organised with five usernames removed from the list due to these accounts being controlled by blocked or banned users, and to deal with cases where editors had added themselves to the list twice. Some usernames were also moved from the active to inactive list, and vice versa.
Spain's 2010 performance was stage crashed by Jimmy Jump and they were given a second chance to perform their song following the last song of the final.
Germany also became the first country to select its performer for the 2011 Contest, with Lena Meyer-Landrut set to defend her title.
Austria announced it's return to the Contest for 2011, with its last appearance being in 2007 when it placed second to last in the semi-final and did not progress to the final.
In late July, Liechtenstein submitted its application to join the EBU. With EBU membership, Liechtenstein would be able to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Managing director Peter Kölbel stated that there were "good chances" for a participation in 2011 if admittance is granted to the organization.

Welcome to the seventeenth edition of the WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter!
I apologize for the lack of a newsletter these past few months as I had gotten quite busy in life. Adding to that, the lack of group participation by editors made me feel like my efforts were a waste of time that no one appreciates.
I think it is important that we behave like a "club" of sorts and have fun editing Eurovision articles. Eurovision is a fun event and we should be able to discuss the results, talk about Contest related possibilities and work to expand knowledge of the Contest to those who may not be familiar with it. When I edit articles, I hope that someone will come along later and say "wow, all of this happened and I didn't even know it!" Come on guys, get each other's instant messenger name and team up to make an article great!
The project currently has 82 members, with seven joining and one leaving during the last five months. Note that the membership list was recently re-organised (see left), and that in the future only members listed as active Eurovision editors will receive this newsletter.

There is currently a discussion ongoing at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Template duplications on the future use of navigation templates (navboxes) within Eurovision articles. Important News
There is a RfC discussion in regards to article layout, taking place on the project talk page. Could all members please ensure that they participate in the discussion so that we can all agree on important article structure issues. If you don't take part, then you only have yourselves to blame if a consensus is passed that you disagree with.
When creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to add sources either from Eurovision.tv, ESCToday or other reliable sources. If you're not sure a source is reliable enough, then ask the project for an opinion.
Data tables of winners for OGAE and Marcel Bezençon Awards have been mass added under the radar across a variety of Eurovision articles without any consensus, which there should be for something like that. These sections have been badly formatted with various problems including inappropriate links in the section headings (discouraged in MOS:HEAD), no written explanation on what these tables mean, and most importantly, no sources.
Remember to only add content to articles that is relevant to the article's main subject. Anything not in relation to the article may be questioned and/or subject to redirection to an article that would benefit it's inclusion. Again if in doubt, ask on the article or project talk pages for an opinion - communication is an important tool.
On the subject of communication, please make use of the article talk pages. They are a vital tool in conducting consensus talks of additions of proposed new sections and/or removal of unnecessary section. If you don't use these pages to put across your views, then you only have yourself to blame if actions are taken that you disagree with and you end up wandering into edit warring territory.
The 2012 season of Eurovision has drawn to a close, and we now start preparations for the 2013 edition. While things will be slow to start of with, now is the ideal opportunity to do a clean-up exercise across articles relating to the project. There's over 4,500 articles associated with the project. If you happen to see a Eurovision related article without the {{EurovisionNotice}} template on the article's talk page, please add it. You can also read Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess or reassess articles in our project if you see that they have outgrown their current assessment. The dates for Eurovision Song Contest 2013 have been announced as 14 May 2013 (semi-final 1); 16 May 2013 (semi-final 2); and 18 May 2013 (final) and will be held in Sweden. The host city is still to be announced; with Gothenburg, Malmö, and Stockholm being among the candidate cities so far.
Asiavision Song Contest - After several postponements, the first contest is now scheduled to take place in the South Korean capital of Seoul; on 14 October 2012.

The tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on the 1 December 2012, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Details about confirmed participation are slowly filtering out into the world wide web. Please cite reliable sources when including new information.
The EBU extended the submission deadline to 29 June 2012. So far only 8 countries confirmed participations, and the contest needs a minimum of eleven in order for the show to continue. Bulgaria have withdrawn.
On 11 May 2012, Norwegian, Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad, won the 16th Eurovision Young Musicians 2012, in Vienna, Austria. This is a biennial event, and the next contest will take place in 2014, with Vienna most likely to be the host nation for a fifth consecutive time.
Glasgow were the hosts of the Eurovision Dance Contest 2008, and since then there have been no announcements of the contest continuing with a third edition.

If it wasn't for the hard work and the many hours of team collaborations that we have endured on this project, then those accolades would never have been gained. Each of those article promotions are as a result of your continuous determination to be part of the best team this project has seen for a long time. Now we look to the months ahead and start preparations for Malmo 2013, and see if we can work to getting another annual article to GA status. Here's to you - the team of excellence.

Creating a page for each country participating in the contest each year. This will give information about the year in Eurovision for that country, like how the song was chosen (selection events), how well it did, any other information about its participation that year.
On Wikipedia, it is very important not only to have the correct information, but to show where you got it from so it can be verified. Editor's should be finding additional sources to reference information with.
This project also includes checking all similar pages to make sure things are consistent across the board and correcting any errors. A listing of pages marked for some sort of cleanup is available here.

Albania announced on 25 July 2012 that they will make their début in Amsterdam, and Moldova confirmed their participation. Thus bringing the total number of confirmed participant to eleven countries so far.
Asiavision Pte's Our Sound: The Asia-Pacific Song Contest seems to have been indefinitely postponed. However, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) are launching their own versions; which are not to be confused with Our Sound or Eurovision Song Contest. The "cultural extravaganza" concept may be the same, but the format is completely different. The Radio Festival will be competitive, while the TV Festival is just a showcase of music so is non-competitive.
ABU Radio Song Festival 2012 - Twenty-six entries from sixteen countries took part in a preliminary selection round. Of those, fifteen have been selected and will perform in the first ABU Radio Song Festival on 11 October 2012.
ABU TV Song Festival 2012 - Thirteen countries have confirmed participation in the first ABU TV Song Festival on 14 October 2012.

The London Olympic and Paralympic games have ended, and just as their motto stated, they truly did inspire a generation. This got me thinking how could we as a project for Eurovision related material may be able to inspire the next generation of Eurovision fans? RfC discussions have already underway on the project talk page regarding article layouts, how we can better present our articles to provide a more in-depth knowledge into the contests. One such discussion in regards to layout of Contest by Year articles has already become a success, and provided the project with its first ever GA-class article. So in reality, implementing the same layout across other articles should produce the same output. A similar discussion into layout style for Country in a Contest related articles is also taking place. This project is constantly evolving as more and more editors join the team. We've redesigned the home page for Project Eurovision in a bid it entices new people to join the team. A project can't survive on stale movement, it needs evolution to add excitement to the project. So lets use October to inspire each other to do better, to work more collaboratively, and to entice the next generation of editors to the project team.
Also be on the look out for potential new members to the project. Post {{subst:EurovisionInvite}} (which will produced this template) on any user page you think is interested to join the WikiProject, to officially invite them to join.

So far 35 countries have confirmed participation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, which is scheduled to take place in Malmö. Please remember to only cite reliable sources when adding countries to the article.
7 countries have announced the dates of their national finals.
Andorra, Czech Republic, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, and Morocco confirm they will not be present in Malmö.
Please can we also remember to keep this article well presented based on the layout that was agreed upon via the Project RfC. If in doubt, check Eurovision Song Contest 2012 as an example. That article is using the new layout format and gained the project it's first GA-class on annual pages. Let's maintain that high standard.

We are almost at the end of another great Eurovision year, with preparations now well under way for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. Individual entry articles are slowly appearing at Template:Eurovision Song Contest 2013, although as happens every year, there is tendency to create these article prematurely. If you feel like you'll be out of your depth over there, you should know that it was a suggestion by a newbie that resulted in a complete re-structuring of all Eurovion templates, so you don't have to be an "old timer" to bring new ideas to the table! On the same page is a proposal to re-license Eurovision logos uploaded locally, and since this will have a big impact on how we handle logos, some further feedback would be appreciated.

The tenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on the 1 December 2012, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Twelve countries have confirmed their participation with Albania, Azerbaijan, and Israel making their début.
As the contest will be starting in the next few weeks, then the article may become subjected to vandalism from random IP accounts. Please be vigilant and revert any vandalism that you find. Thank you.
ABU Radio Song Festival 2012 - On 11 October 2012 the first ABU Radio Song Festival took place in the Korean capital of Seoul. South Korea won the Grand Prix award with the song "For a Rest" performed by boy band Billy Acoustie. Danielle Blakey representing Australia won the gold award with the song "Fearless", Brunei received the silver award with the song "The sweetest memory" performed by Maria Aires, with Sammy Ray Jones also representing Australia receiving the bronze award with his song "Rinet". K-Town Clan representing Malaysia received the special jury award with their song "Party Animal" and thus finished in fifth place.
ABU TV Song Festival 2012 - Eleven countries performed in the first ABU TV Song Festival on 14 October 2012. The contest was non-competitive and thus no winners.
ABU Radio Song Festival 2014 - It was announced on 11 October 2012 that the 2014 Radio Festival will take place in Australia hosted by radio broadcaster ABC Australia.

With the festive season a matter of days away and 2012 rapidly drawing to a close, I'd like to take the time to reflect on the last 12 months as a project community, and look ahead to 2013. 2012 witnessed the period when Azerbaijan got to showcase their capital city Baku to the rest of Europe. Preparations for the contest were not the smoothest ever seen, but come the day of the contest everything seemed to have knitted together OK. Concerns over the longevity of the Junior Contest were also raised when the lowest participation ever recorded. Fans worried that the contest would be brought to an abrupt end, however, with 3 new countries debuting the contest went ahead as planned.
The project also seen the start of two new contests, ABU Radio Song Festival and ABU TV Song Festival, which were both staged in the Korean capital of Seoul. The host nation won the first edition of the festival. And so we look ahead to 2013, with Sweden hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for a fifth time, and for the second time in the city of Malmö. Vietnam is expected to host the 2013 ABU TV Song Festival, with the Radio Festival having a year break, which won't be hosted again until 2014 in Australia. Details about the 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest are still unknown. As always, be on the look out for potential new members to the project. So we as a collective need to be as vigilant as possible when it comes to content being updated to respective articles connected to Malmö 2013. With less than a month to go until we find out who is the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, the article itself is already looking impressive and is written with such broad scope and covering almost every piece of news in an encyclopaedic style of course. The show hasn't even started and the article is looking very much like a GA-class article. Well we have a winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, and the 2014 article is already up and running. However, the work on the 2013 edition is still not complete. Over the next few weeks many editors will be doing the final clean-up operation on the article, and we hope to achieve yet another GA classification on the article in the coming months. We will of course keep you all updated of the progress via the newsletter.
But if you are already starting to get Eurovision withdrawal symptoms, then don't panic. In what is becoming a regularity with new Eurovision articles, they are potential subjects to vandalism, so be on guard and revert any vandalistic edits.

Another month has gone by and with plenty of ups and downs within this project. An RfC has been rebooted on the project talk page (see Project Alerts below for more details). The OGAE articles are undergoing a complete rewrite to make these articles look more presentable and give more encyclopaedic value to them. They were in a disastrous and neglected state previously, so it is about time they got some well needed TLC treatment given to them all. Eurovision Song Contest 2013 is looking near completed, and in preparation for a GA-class submission. A huge thank you to all those who have contributed on that article in the last 12 months - some WikiLove to everyone for your continuous teamwork.

There is a RFC taking place on the project talk page which could do with as many members contributing to it. Your say will help to achieve consensus on how '[Country]' in the Eurovision Song Contest articles should be stylised and written more encyclopaedically for the general audience and not just for the average ESC-fan. Eurovision Song Contest 2013 will shortly be going through the annual process of a post-Contest tidy-up, in preparation for a GA-class submission. We will keep you posted of that process in due course.
OGAE and other articles relating to the organisation are going through an extensive rewriting exercise. Some of the article were in a very poor state, with the lead section of OGAE being an exact word-for-word copy of the "about us" section of OGAE's Facebook page. This was a violation of WP:COPYVIO, and has now been averted thanks to Wesley's hard work fixing the articles.

WikiProject Eurovision Newsletter - Issue 44[edit]
This is a reminder that the first Project Eurovision Cup begins on Sunday 1 March and will run all the way through until Tuesday 31 March. The aim of the competition is to help improve many of the articles within Project Eurovision that would have been otherwise left neglected, by carrying out as many objectives as possible. The more objectives you do, the more points you will earn. So have you got what it takes to be crowned Project Eurovision Member of the Month? Click here to sign up.
The winner of the first Project Eurovision Cup is Jjj1238, who achieved an outstanding 108 points. Androptrnt finished in second place with 30 points, and Moldova96 in third with 15 points.
The second contest has begun, with participants from the first contest automatically registered. The EuroCup II will run from 1 April to 30 June, to allow people to get articles reviewed for GA or FA status. The aim of the competition is to help improve many of the articles within Project Eurovision that would have been otherwise left neglected, by carrying out as many objectives as possible. The more objectives you do, the more points you will earn. So have you got what it takes to be crowned winner of the next Project Eurovision Cup? Project members who wish to participate have until 18 April to sign up.

The third edition has begun and will run from 1 July to 30 September, allowing participants a reasonable amount of time to have their articles which they may have nominated for GA or FA status, to be reviewed. The aim of the competition is to help improve many of the articles within Project Eurovision that would have been otherwise left neglected, by carrying out as many objectives as possible. WikiProject Eurovision: Important Announcement[edit]
Following a project community discussion, which was raised over the use of English translation columns on annual contest articles, and advice from the lead coordinator of The Guild of Copy Editors, who are extremely knowledgeable in regards to all editing practises and manual of style policies. A consensus decision has been reached to fully remove ALL English translations, as such content falls under the prohibition on original research, even if it seems helpful to the reader. This is because we have now to assume that every reader has access to automated translation tools that can always give them a sense of the meaning of the title in their native language; it is not Wikipedia's job to provide those tools for the reader. Which therefore means we are no longer to include an English translation column, nor are we to provide translation by any other means on contest articles.
Such information is currently in the process of being removed, and a new table formatting and layout style is being rolled out across all articles.
