Alpha-galactosidase in section called "Enzyme replacement therapy". Beano, Bean-zyme, etc[edit]

Alpha-galactosidase is mentioned in that section. At only US$200,000 per patient per year.

Are the cheap oral forms effective at all? See: Alpha-galactosidase#Supplements:

α-GAL derived from aspergillus niger (a common mold) is an active ingredient in products marketed to reduce stomach gas production after eating foods known to cause gas. It is optimally active at 55 degrees C, after which its half-life is 120 minutes.

There are scores of supplements containing the enzyme over the counter in the United States and many more world wide. Products with Alpha-galactosidase include:

  • Beano
  • CVS BeanAid
  • Enzymedica's BeanAssist
  • Gasfix
  • Bloateez (in India as Cogentrix)

Let me add Bean-zyme. My last bottle of 500 tablets at 400 GALU per tablet cost $31.99 total (free shipping).

So if the oral form helps at all, shouldn't this be mentioned in the article too? Along with the approximate generic prices. --Timeshifter (talk) 03:06, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
