Hello[edit]

Hi Asparagus,

I created the "French film directors" category yesterday after finding there wasn't one, but I wasn't looking forward to the work of going around adding names yet - so thanks! Would you be interested in a Wikiproject about classic or international films? -- Simonides 20:31, 18 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Fire away!

There is no information about it, it's just a stub I created: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Classic,_International_and_Cult_Cinema, and it's meant to differentiate from the already existing Wikiproject on movies in that it pays attention to the work of major directors (ex. I created a stub for Jean Eustache yesterday because there was nothing about him), especially non-Hollywood ones, and tries to raise the level of awareness or the articles about them here. I feel we could create a template or a list of major directors like the ones they have for major philosophers and take it from there. -- Simonides 21:00, 18 Jul 2004 (UTC)

German film directors[edit]

Isn't it too soon to be adding names to (potentially non-notable) film directors? I had to add the substub tag to some of them after seeing your entries. Peter O. (Talk) 23:43, Jul 31, 2004 (UTC)

Well, they've all got correlating entries in the german wiki. I figured I'd go through and get things set up, then do the grunt work of translating later. As far as for non-notable (in English, I presume), I'm only adding to the specialized German film subcat. And, there's only 4-5 figures left to add, so I'm not exactly creating a firestorm of new entries.

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

English Opening Contribution[edit]

Hello, I noticed while reading English Opening that the info on the history of the opening appears to be taken almost verbatim from the book Modern Chess Openings. Is this the case (if it is, that should probably be noted in the article)? -- Gestrin 07:44, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I paraphased it, but was doing a bunch at the time, so didn't source. Adding. --Asparagus 16:22, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maya contribution[edit]

I removed the sentence on the Autodesk acquisition. Firstly it does not really belong here - it belongs on the Alias page where it is already described. Secondly there were errors in the sentence anyway - the acquisition has not taken place yet, and also Autodesk does not own mental ray. The description of the acquisition on the Alias page is accurate, and should be sufficient. [24.156.129.80]

Well, that wasn't my contrib, but good work. ;-) --Asparagus 06:56, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that the stats had been updated and had just geared myself up to updating the above page ... but find you've already done the update, most excellently! Kudos to you, not least for updating the footnote. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Clash video[edit]

Hi, I've removed your video from the Dongzhou article, because it is of another clash that occurred in Shengyou village (绳油村), Dingzhou prefecture (定州市), Hebei province, China on June 11, 2005. -- ran (talk) 23:03, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, no worries...I misread 11-6 (June) as 11-6 (November). Sorry about that. --Asparagus 01:19, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient Pueblo Peoples[edit]

Hi Asparagus! Re your recent addition of "Category:Native American tribes" -- archaeologists generally believe that these people were a culture group, varied people sharing many traits and living a similar lifestyle, rather than a tribal group or structured organization. In fact, various groups within the culture area probably gave rise to many of the modern Pueblo tribes. So, would a subcategory - "Ancient Native American Cultures" be better? Best wishes. Just catting uncategorized articles...if you have a better place to put one, be my guest. ;-) --Asparagus 16:18, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please[edit]

If it's not a problem could you please put two new lines before a stub (when you are putting one), because it looks better. For an example: old and with 2 newlines. The stub isn't imposing visualy on the last line. Yeah I know I'm crazy! Death2 10:40, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Sam Peckinpah.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rosenzweig 22:32, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Victorian era battleships[edit]

Hi there; I would be most grateful if you could explai to me why you have labelled a large number of quite detailed articles on Victorian battleships as stubs? There is really not much else to say about them.--Anthony.bradbury 16:00, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've simply been attempting to lend some structure to all the various uncategorized articles on wikipedia... if you know a better category to add them to, please do so. --Asparagus 16:11, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categorising is fine; Royal Navy battleships is good, or United Kingdom battleships of the Victorian era; but my point is that they are NOT stubs, and labelling them as such minimises the vast amount of work that I have undertaken in writing them. OK?--Anthony.bradbury 21:04, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job catergorizing the articles, good work. --Asparagus 21:52, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

double (band)[edit]

Hey asparagus,

Why did you turn the Double article back into a stub. Do you have any idea how much work I put into it? I rewrote the article and added a lot of things to it. Trust me, there is no more information available on that band. I checked everywhere and made into the best article I could, there is really no more...no more. So I will do my duty and abolish the stub...because it is no longer a stub. Kiske 05:36, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

uncategorized articles to stubs[edit]

90% of the time, you're probably right that an uncategorized article is a stub. There are a strong minority, however, that are far too long or detailed to be considered stubs; it would be more accurate for you to tag those articles with Uncategorized. Thanks! --M@rēino 17:05, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll go by AWB's stub definition to make the call. Only 10k names to go! ;-) --Asparagus 23:50, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

school-stub additions[edit]

Hi - you've been digging up a rather lot of good articles and putting them into school stub, which is great - but will you help sort them out, too? I've got most of it done for now, but I don't know if you're planning to continue or leave off. Aelfthrytha 20:25, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was at work today. That was the lot of them, and you've already gone through them all. Nice. :-) --Asparagus 03:52, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical stubs[edit]

First of all, thanks for adding stub tags to articles - it helps them get more attention/improvement. However, you may want to choose a more specific stub than bio-stub; that stub category has roughly 1800 articles and is oversized. Also, articles should generally be categorized in permanent categories as well as stub categories - stub categories are temporary. Thanks again, Crystallina 19:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Education stub[edit]

Why did you add a "relating to education" stub tag to Quirm College for Young Ladies? This article is not really a stub - I wrote it, and I thought it was detailed enough - and, furthermore, it doesn't really belong in the education category, since it details a fictional institution on a fictional planet. Is it OK if I remove the stub tag? Walton monarchist89 12:17, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I replaced the stub with a cat...I was doing a bunch school-stubs at the time, it slipped through. --Asparagus 21:25, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK fair enough. Thanks. Walton monarchist89

John Wesley Jermyn[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article John Wesley Jermyn, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add db-author to the top of John Wesley Jermyn. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dvd studio pro 4.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dvd studio pro 4.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:13, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Uncategorized stubs from February 2007, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gabe Barcia-Colombo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Dusty|💬|You can help! 02:00, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Gabe Barcia-Colombo[edit]

The article Gabe Barcia-Colombo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable film artist

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
