Saudi Arabia[edit]

Hey Eagleamn. I don't understand what you meant by the cinemas thing. But my concern over the demographics section was whether there are sources which say that most westerners live in the eastern province. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 03:20, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okay thanks. I have adjusted the cinema statments in the article. Next time please adjust rather than remove. Thanks. Btw, what do you have again Wahabbis? Aren't you native Saudi? --a.n.o.n.y.m t 03:28, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is some bias against Wahabbis showing but no problem. :) Just wondering though if you are not Sunni Saudi, then what are you? Shi'a Saudi? Christian Saudi? --a.n.o.n.y.m t 03:36, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. See you around. a.n.o.n.y.m t 03:46, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you have removed part of the quote from William Gifford Palgrave on the Rashidi page, and placed a NPOV on the article. I must confess I´m quite flabbergasted by this. Firstly: I really do not see or understand by which authority you can change/rewrite a quote that comes from a book which was published 140 years ago? You (or I) might agree -or disagree- with mr. Palgrave, but that does not give either of us the right to change his views/writings. A quote is a quote is a quote. Now, you might argue: A: That I have quoted Palgrave wrongly. If that is the case, then point it out to me, and I will of course change the quote so it will be exactly what Palgrave wrote. B: that what Palgrave wrote was wrong. Then you should write that in the Palgrave-article, preferably with references to scolars who support this view (in accordance with PW´s NOR-policy.) C: you could argue that the quote should not be in this article (In which case I will inform you why it was included)

I hope you will inform me about what "factual mistakes that are biased against Shia" the Rashidi article contains. Thank you. Huldra 04:17, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Btw; just to make myself clear: if you think the quote from Palgrave is insulting and want to take away the whole quote; well, I will not protest too much. My intention with including the quote was to show that there were rulers that had a more inclusive and tolerant view of other groups than the Wahabis did. I took the quote from the Al Rasheed book, but I have just gotten the Palgrave-book itself, so I´m sure I can find another quote which illustrate my point in a manner which is not insulting to any group. I will, however, protest quite strongly on letting the Palgrave-quote stand as it is: it is simply not correct. Now, it looks as if Palgrave wrote this... and he never did (as far as I know). It is simply wrong to let it stand as it is. Regards, Huldra 08:05, 22 October 2005 (UTC) PS: have you read the Palgrave book?[reply]

Hmm, now I see that you just rv you edit before I wrote my last bit, well, as I said: if there is anything you find insulting in the article: please tell me. Regards, Huldra 08:11, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm fairly new. I'm trying to add a buch of Star Trek articles here and I got a message that one of my entries is going to be deleted.

How come?

VfD[edit]

The VfD / AfD templates should be used with subst. That is, put {{subst:vfd}} or {{tl|subst:afd}} (they mean the same thing) at the top of the article, then save and do the other two steps... Jamie 11:20, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I fixed two of them. After the second I thought you might not be in the practice of using subst. No problem, I make the same mistake too sometimes. I wish I had a macro for AfDs.  :) Jamie 11:24, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

UT pictures[edit]

I have seen your additions to the UT article, WRT to the pictures. I don't think that the pictures will survive the peer review process because of their copyright status. If you want to keep your images copyright, that's fine, but be aware that another user will probably replace them with pictures that have been released under the GFDL or into the Public Domain. If you have questions about this, please contact me. If someone does not before me, I will remove the images when I get back to campus and take more to replace them. -Scm83x 09:51, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I noted your comments on the talk page and I am wondering if you will release the images under GFDL or PD. Then, they will be more likely to survive the peer review process. -Scm83x 09:55, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:King_Fahd_Causeway.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:King_Fahd_Causeway.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 07:23, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is only stated in User:Darwinek/UB, userboxes section. Saw you are from Saudi Arabia, I am interested in Middle East, from time to time adding some geo-stub articles, like recently Bisha or Rafha. Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 23:58, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Translation request[edit]

Hello, I saw that you are a native speaker of Arabic, so I would like to ask you if you could take a look at 2003 invasion of Iraq and Iraq War. There is a featured article in Arabic which we would like to know how it could be used the English one which is of course dominated by people who have either been there as soldiers or have their knowledge from western media. Someone also asked if the section about "related propaganda and phrases" could be amplified with information about the Iraqi side. Maybe there are also people who took photos in Iraq at the Arabic version? Nameme 15:45, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. Looks like the Arabic version can benefit more from the English one than the other way round. I will post your translation to the talk page of one of the articles and point to it at the other one. Nameme 21:12, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see this as a speedy. It does have info, in the form of the taxobox. Someone interested in Diopsoidea would find on that page the proper classification of it (kingdom, phylum, and on down). I pulled the speedy tag, and usually when I do that I move the article to Prod or AfD, but I didn't do that here, just because I'm tired, although you're welcome to. I do take your point -- there's not actual free text in the article -- so I can see why you did that, I just don't personally agree. Herostratus 08:38, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

fine by me ;-) thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.21.177.130 (talkcontribs)

Please don't restore the prod tag on articles. Prod is for uncontroversial deletions only, and as the notice says, removing the tag is the correct way of objecting to the deletion. Please see WP:PROD#What this process is NOT for. I'm moving it to AfD for you.

Can you please also note in your edit summary that you're prodding an article? It seems kind of important, and if nothing else, it makes it possible to look at the page history to tell if an article has been prodded. NickelShoe 22:07, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I restored the prod tag because the editor who removed it neither explained nor changed anything in the article. The editor might have blanked the whole article as well including the tag, reverting it will cause the tag to be "restored;" or should it also be removed in that case? Thanks. - Eagletalk 22:18, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
An objection is an objection, regardless of whether the reasoning is explained. Wikipedia talk:Proposed deletion#Reason for removal and [[Wikipedia talk:Proposed deletion#Re-{{prod}}ed pages?]] tackle these questions. Consensus seems to be that removing the deletion notice is obviously an objection to the deletion. Blanking the page is almost certainly an endorsement to the deletion, which might even make it speediable as author request in some cases.
The annoying thing is that the counter resets when the tag is removed and restored, so if you get the feeling a person might blank it again, you might send it to AfD just to keep the timer from resetting over and over. NickelShoe 22:26, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After consulting with an admin I've removed that report for now, as the vandalism stopped before your test4/final warning. I've also added the username to the CVU blacklist. Zerida report on WP:RFI[edit]

It is important to note the line on the protection template that says "(Protection is not an endorsement of the current page version)". Protection is only there to force editors to talk about changes rather than continually revert them. In this case whilst Zerida has removed messages from their talk page, Zerida has given explanations on the category's talk page and you should continue to discuss the issue there. The length of time that a particular edit has stood for, or the 'original' version of a page, does not really matter (as Wikipedia is continually being edited and hopefully improved!). Possibly a Third opinion might be useful here. Petros471 15:33, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The reason I listed the situation is to have a third opinion (usually it's hard to get one in a category talk page). Since, I suppose, you are familiar with the subject matter now, would you like to give your opinion? Thanks. - Eagletalk 15:49, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
I didn't dive in with my opinion as I was trying to stay neutral. However as you asked and this does seem to be a fairly simple content dispute I will attempt to give my views over on Category talk:Egyptian Americans. Petros471 16:11, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Zerida has proposed a compromise over on the category talk page, which sounds reasonable to me. Could you please take a look at it, to see if you agree. If so the page protection can be lifted to allow the relevant changes to be make. Thanks, Petros471 12:39, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Arabic article seems to be about the same "Alexandrian Wicca" (religion/sorcery/?) that is in the English article. The Arabic article is apparently a translation of the English introduction. - Eagletalk 00:41, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I based it on looking at the article -- I couldn't tell much from just the two words you quoted here, since I couldn't find waw-ya-kaf-alif in my Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic at all. My fluency in Arabic is somewhat limited, but based on my perusal of the Arabic article, it's hard to see what else it could be -- the highlighted phrase دين الويكا الوثني "the pagan religion of wee-kah" kind of gives it away... Hi, could you place {{good article}} at the bottom of the article. I you place them at the top they will cause an annoying blank line at the top in certain situations and hinder editing the introduction of articles a bit. Also I have posted a question at WP:RD/L#Need_some_help_with_a_tranlsation_form_Arabic_to_English which you might be able to answer for me. Cheers, —Ruud 19:31, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Arbitration[edit]

I have referred you to the Arbitration Committee for their consideration over the content dispute we had and the actions you have recently taken. You can find the arbitration request at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Eagleamn. If you wish to respond to it, you should respond under the "Statement by party 2" heading. You must keep your response to 500 words or less, or it may be removed without warning by the Committee clerks. — Zerida 07:25, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration case was rejected, with the suggestion you try WP:RFC. It would be good to bring in a few more editors to Category talk:Egyptian Americans to allow consensus to be reached. Petros471 11:10, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion[edit]

Regarding the article TGV East, which you tagged for speedy deletion with the reason "It is reposted content that was deleted in accordance with the deletion policy (CSD:G4)", I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This article does not qualify for speedy deletion because the content is not the same as what was previously deleted. If you still want the article to be deleted, please use the WP:AFD process. Fatwa[edit]

Why did you revert my contribution to fatwa? A scholar that is able to issue a fatwa is called a Mufti in within the Ahlus Sunnah, but an Ayatollah in Shia Islam. Both of them, however, are mujtahids. ScottRR 15:39, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would appreciate a reply to this. ScottRR 20:04, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I'm aware the word "mujtahid" is used by Muslims to apply to both Sunni and Shia scholars. "Mufti" is usually the title specifically to a Sunni scholar, and "Ayatollah" for a Shia scholar. Thanks for your earlier response. ScottRR 16:57, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

American-bio-stub[edit]

I have nominated the stub redirect you created {{American-bio-stub}} for deletion at WP:SFD. The redirect violates the naming guidelines for stub templates by using the adjective "American" and would cause confusion as to whether or not a stub exists if similar redirects were to be haphazardly created for other US-*-stub templates. Energy portal & future selected articles[edit]

Hi! Over the past couple of months I've been spending much more time than I should developing the Energy portal, and intend asking for a portal peer review within the next day or so.

The portal provides a showcase for energy-related articles on Wikipedia. One of the most prominent ways is via a the selected article that is currently changed every 6 weeks or so. It would be good to increase this turnover, and with three Wikiprojects dedicated to energy-related topics and a good number of articles already written, I'd like to suggest that members of each Wikiproject might like to use the 'selected article' to feature some of their best work.

With this in mind, I'd like to suggest that your Wikiproject bypasses the normal selected article nomination page and decides collectively which articles are worth featuring - or these may be self-evident from previous discussions - and add short 'introduction' to the selected article at the appropriate place on page Portal:Energy/Selected article/Drafts, which includes further information. Your personal involvement would be welcome!

Please make any comments on your Wikiproject talk page, my talk page, or on Portal talk:Energy/Selected article/Drafts, as appropriate. Gralo 15:37, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have suggested that Standards of good articles, a redirect page which you created, be deleted as a cross-namespace redirect. If you would like to comment in the discussion, it is found here. -- Black Falcon 00:29, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Abdullahcity.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Abdullahcity.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:00, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Eagleamn. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Aramco88.JPG) was found at the following location: User:Eagleamn/Aramco-stub. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 04:13, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Hydro-seismic.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 17:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Cryoanesthesia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 972 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tamimi Group requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Notice

The article Saudi Petroleum International has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
