Spelling[edit]

Is the the same person as Abulfez Elchibey? Could someone confirm the correct spelling, and delete an article / setup a redirect as necessary? Vclaw 01:39, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Date[edit]

What is the citation for the birth date? The non-wikipedia sources that I found (http://rulers.org/indexe.html#elchi and http://www.rochester.edu/college/faculty/hgoemans/data.htm) have 1938-06-07 as his birth date? Jrnold (talk) 23:54, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Abülfaz ElçibayAbulfaz Elchibey — On Wikipedia, Azeri names with diacritics are normally fully transliterated in standart Roman letters —Parishan 21:49, 25 March 2007 (UTC) - Discussion section added by SigPig |SEND - OVER 12:45, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Add  # '''Support'''  or  # '''Oppose'''  on a new line in the appropriate section followed by a brief explanation, then sign your opinion using ~~~~. Please remember that this survey is not a vote, and please provide an explanation for your recommendation.

Survey - in support of the move[edit]

  1. Support. Target name is more common; even sites that use the former spelling omit the diacritics. --SigPig |SEND - OVER 12:55, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support. We should use common English spelling. Grandmaster 16:22, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support I've always been in support of this, especially on the page Ilham Aliyev. --adil 17:32, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - in opposition to the move[edit]

  1. Strong Oppose That's his actual name, plain Latin alphabet with diacritics that are perfectly acceptable in English. No need to fabricate a new name.--Húsönd 02:53, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I said I don't want to take part in the vote, since his only true name is Əbülfəz Elçibəy and not Abulfaz Elchibey, nor Abülfaz Elçibay. But I can't abandon those who share my mind. I strongly oppose that move from a wrong spelling to a wronger one. Švitrigaila 09:30, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose and agree with Švitrigaila. —Nightstallion (?) 16:07, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Abülfaz ElçibayAbulfaz Elchibey – (or Əbülfəz Elçibəy) The current title is Wikipedia original research unsupported by sources. —  AjaxSmack  15:49, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Either use the English spelling or the correct Azerbaijani spelling. The sources linked in the article use the form "Abulfaz Elchibey". There has been very extensive previous discussion of whether to use the "English" or Azerbaijani names at Talk:Ilham Aliyev, specifically here, here, and here. (As an aside and not mentioned in those discussions: Azerbaijani is perhaps unique among Latin-alphabet languages in that there are two official spellings of personal names used in passports and the like: the Azerbaijani spelling and an "English" version where diacritics are eliminated and some letters are altered. The English version is that usually used at Wikipedia. Cf. other presidents of Azerbaijan.) —  AjaxSmack  15:49, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
