Trivia[edit]

I didn't know where to put "A tv-serie about a British antiques dealer Lovejoy was filmed in various locations of Suffolk [1].", so it is in Trivia. Error in introduction[edit]

Very good concise summary but you say "On 5 December 2007 the government announced that Suffolk's political landscape was to be altered, with four unitary authorities set to replace the County Council and the seven district councils."

What was announced was that the proposal did not demonstrate that it presented a sound financial case on its own. It will therefore be referred to the Boundary Committee, who will look at the case for a unitary Ipswich in the context of examining options for unitary arrangements in the wider county area. --Mosh48 (talk) 15:58, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More notable people from Suffolk[edit]

My addition of Tony Hall was undone by Dancarney. However, I consider that he is far better known than Cradles of Filth and some obscure DJ. Apart from being lead cartoonists for the EDP, his musical work has involved playing (over 50 + years) with some of the UK's best known folk performers - Albion Band, Shirley Collins, Peter Bellamy etc. etc. He is also a recording artist in his own right.

I removed him because he does not have a Wikipedia article and therefore he is probably not significantly notable. I'm not sure which of the two DJs you're referring to are "obscure" - John Peel was one of the most highly regarded radio presenters in the world, and Tim Westwood is one of the longest serving presenters on Radio 1, the second most listened to station in the UK. Removal of external links[edit]

Dancarney has been very assiduous in removing external links from the Suffolk article. I'm slightly perplexed to understand why, in some cases. Wikipedia gives as a condition for links "Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks) or other reasons.".

Take, for example, the Simon Knott Suffolk churches website. Firstly, the content is wholly relevant to "Silly Suffolk". Secondly, the detail is entirely beyond what could be inserted in the Suffolk article. I will admit that the author holds and expresses his own views on church architecture and other matters such as churches being open to visit; but I don't think that this constitutes some form of self-promotion. He may not be "neutral" in the strictest meaning of the word, but I would not have said that his articles are either biased or partisan. I have elsewhere expressed my own view that that the Suffolk County Council website is a questionable link, as it serves in many ways only to relate and to justify the actions of the council which have been instigated by a political party i.e. some of it is definitely party political propaganda (certainly not neutral in the truest sense), and this is outside Wikipedia guidelines. I will add that I would consider this to be so irrespective of which party is in charge of the county at any time. --Roaringboy (talk) 11:53, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Suffolk Churches website is a very useful one, but I believe that it should be a source rather than an external link. I reckon it would be suitable for an article on Churches in England, Churches in East Anglia, Churches in Suffolk, etc. From Links normally to be avoided, point 13:

... a website on a specific subject should usually not be linked from an article about a general subject.

The Suffolk Churches site is about churches in Suffolk, not Suffolk. As for the council, this is the body that runs the specific area and as such their website could be considered the 'official' website for the subject and has to be a must for inclusion. Just dropping a quick note for any interested editors... Several of us from the Equine Wikiproject are working to get Suffolk Punch (a draft horse breed that originated in Suffolk) to FA status. Suffolk is not "largely wetland" and it has hills[edit]

Only the coast of Suffolk is wetland. The vast majority of the county is covered by arable land.

Also, it's not true that Suffolk has "few hills" - most of the county is undulating or plateau. The hills are not very high, but there are plenty of them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.172.13.220 (talk) 10:55, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on what you call "wetland". Redgrave and Lopham Fen, which is inland, is one of the largest river valley fens in England. The Suffolk part of the Broads is also inland, and the marshes at Beccles are also wetland.

Also interesting to know how much is woodland/forested.
