Untitled[edit]

The Private Life of Henry the VIII is without a doubt one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The movie is listed as a drama, so i'm not sure if it was made to be funny or just appears that way. I found the movie do be ridiculous, with many random pointless scenes done with over acting and silliness by King Henry. Many long pauses and much of the dialouge sounded like gibberish. I found this to be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen and would love to see this movie played on the sci-fi program Mystery Science Theater, which is a program where old movies are made fun of with added dialogue. I recommend this movie to anyone with a good sense of humor. -nate

Chicken eating[edit]

Am I right in thinking the association of eating chicken with the bare hands with Henry VIII (people saying things like "Don't worry about the knife and fork, I'll just eat it like Henry VIII") dates from this film? I wonder how that could be established or disproved. Perhaps someone can find an earlier reference. --Hugh7 (talk) 09:36, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Historical film"??[edit]

No way. This is a "pseudohistorical film", amusing but in no way genuinely historical. Whether ignoring Catherine of Aragon to breaking the fourth wall at the end of the film, this movie is not "historical". Revisionist, perhaps. Quis separabit? 15:53, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright status[edit]

I have deleted the link to the illicit hosting of this British film on Internet Archive. Director Alexander Korda did not die until 1956, so UK copyright subsists until the end of 2026. As a non-US film still under copyright in its country of origin on 1 January 1996, it is protected in the US for 95 years after publication, so to the end of 2028. Nick Cooper (talk) 22:11, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note however that the following is stated on the Internet Movie Date Base:
"The failure of the original copyright holder to renew the film's copyright resulted in it falling into public domain, meaning that virtually anyone could duplicate and sell a VHS/DVD copy of the film. Therefore, many of the versions of this film available on the market are either severely (and usually badly) edited and/or of extremely poor quality, having been duped from second- or third-generation (or more) copies of the film." As stated on IMDb, there are indeed several DVDs of the movie on sale from different companies who have taken advantage of the film's 'public domain' status. So what? The US copyright in the film was restored under GATT and it is now protected until the end of 2028. It is no longer public domain in the United States, and any copies produced after the restoration are illegal bootlegs, notwithstanding the fact that those produced before restoration were legitimate at the time. Any ongoing hosting by Internet Archive of the film is similarly a breach of the restored copyright. Nick Cooper (talk) 18:30, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
