Causes of mental illness[edit]

Sad story, maybe, but non-encyclopedic. --Plutor 14:30, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete - Wikipedia is not a mental health professional, support group, or even LiveJournal. -- Cyrius| 18:54, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Assuming there's not enough information to split out of mental illness yet, redirect there. I wouldn't be averse to a real article at this title. [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 19:07, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

I feel it is absolutely essential for this article and others like it to remain available to the Wikipedia readership. If persons who read these articles object to them, they should have their say -- for example, they could add a rebutting article of their own -- but calling for the deletion of this article is a demand for censorship. That cannot be allowed.

Incidentally, for those who are mentally ill, over 2/3 of the population have neither been diagnosed nor treated for their mentall illness. Denial of mental illness, and not mental illness itself, is the great tragedy of humanity.

I have had my own experience with clinical depression. It took over 20 years from the first time that I heard of depression until I got the appropriate diagnosis and treatment for it. This I would not wish upon my worst enemy.

Wikipedia is an information clearinghouse, period. By posting information on subjects like mental illness, Wikipedia does its job. It is up to any person interested in obtaining appropriate medical advice to do that on their own. Perhaps Wikipedia could post an advisory on such medically-related articles that the information contained is purely for information purposes only, and that only a qualified doctor can diagnose and/or treat any illness, including mental illness.

If the subject of mental illness upsets people, perhaps they should ask themselves why. Compassionate proaction is the best course here.

Try reading the article next time. -- Cyrius| 22:30, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • That's a fact. Good title...useless article a la LiveJournal. And no, Dan...with all due respect, this site is not an information clearinghouse but a research tool that's working hard to become a major source of information to the world. I feel for the young lady, but this isn't an appropriate place for her lament. Delete. - Lucky 6.9 00:41, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • This article is probably fake, as is Doctor Dan's PhD. The subject of mental illness doesn't upset us; articles written by nine-year-olds pretending to be fifteen years old whining like this is an AOL chatroom does. Extreme deletion suggested. --NoPetrol 01:48, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete per above. Rossami (talk) 04:33, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. This isn't an article at all -- it's a question that should have been posted to reference desk. Dan, your reaction is a non-sequitor. Of course we should cover mental illness in Wikipedia; that has nothing to do with why it was nominated for deletion. -- Walt Pohl 05:59, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Speedy Delete as patent nonsense (article contains no peer-reviewed information about mental illness, the title doesn't match the content and it's a probable hoax). Oh, and wikipedia's not a blog or forum. Wyss 00:08, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
