Talk on Port. lang[edit]

I dont know if you speak Portuguese. It would be better to say what I've to say to you. If you were brigther and instead of reading stupid oppinions and putting the most stupid thinks you found on the net. Even that orbits that is misslead of a false Brazilian laanguage. The verbs in Brazil are the same has in Portugal. They can say "a gente" instead of "nós", they say it cause Portuguese people also says it for centuries. But the standard in both countries is "nós". Learn the language first. Before putting misleading info. And yes, that link is purely nationalistic. Lets change brazlian grammar books, lets change Brazilian view on what they speak because of some nationalists and some "forroners" with very strange oppion to acchieve what we all know. But You'll get no more than laugh. Infested with Portuguese views? You should reconsider what you said cause that is offensive. I base what I writte on real LINGUISTIC works made in BOTH countries. I'll make a linguistic course and because i dont like you, i'll say that you dont speak English, but rather, Arabic! And you'll have to accept. I've read better what you said in talk:Brazilian Portuguese, the article never said nothing about French linguists, but of French speakers, and the brazilian got that idea from one of that websites you told. The Internet is a way of communication and learning, but also a way to sheat people like you, that doesnt HAVE A CRITICAL VIEW ON WHAT THEY READ. -Pedro 13:49, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Porque não te dedicas à agricultura? =[edit]

-Pedro 21:45, 30 Jul 2004 (UTC)

the above insult is in portuguese and can be roughly translated as:[edit]

"Why don't you dedicate yourself to agriculture? ="[edit]

 • "Haven't you managed to get any more ridiculous links about the brazilian language (that you keep with so much affection), you even took out all the 'talk' so that everyone could see the stupid links you threw carelessly in wikipedia. You just brought rubish with you, appart from ignorance! 'Go plant onions' [euphemism for 'fuck off'], fool. I don't know you from anywhere for you to talk to me like that, you illiterate. -Pedro 21:45, 30 Jul 2004 (UTC)"

Mediation declined[edit]

Hi there Vbs. I'm afraid that Pedro PVZ declined mediation in this edit.

Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 21:21, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

is it just as simple as that? if so what can be done to resolve this situation? PedroPVZ even refuses to read whatever i add to the talk page calls me "illeterate" and says i've got "Schizofrennya", etc. and i am definately not the first one to have problems with him, Portcult, who is an american married to a brazilian, lived in brazil for many years and now lives in portugal, used to have many disagreements with PedroPVZ, but left wikipedia since september 2003. which is quite understandable, with PedroPVZ's actions, and even calling him an "old decrepit" ("velho caduco", link here). Leandrod (talk) (someone i myself had a disagreement with once) also finds PedroPVZ "arrogant" with his possessive reverts: "Não sou a primeira pessoa a reclamar da sua arrogância em remover informações publicadas por outros" trans. -> "i'm not the first one to complain of your arrogance in removing info added by others". i'm only the first one to try and stop him, and i wish someone had a really detailed look at the situation. also, whenever someone is looking at his reverts i wish they looked in detail at the changes rather than just trusted PedroPVZ's "summary" which many times is simply not true. Hi again. If you wish, you can take the case to Requests for arbitration and reference the attempt at mediation (which is now listed at Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation/Archive_10#User:Vbs_and_User:PedroPVZ. Please read through Wikipedia:Dispute resolution first to make sure that you've followed all the appropriate steps, as arbitration is considered the last resort. Also, I think it may help you to add some information to your user page -- it's just a matter of how seriously you appear to take Wikipedia. And for what it's worth, I had some run ins with Pedro myself over his insistence that the name of Canada came from the Portuguese words for "nothing there" over at List of country name etymologies.

Portuguese language article (and talk)[edit]

Hello. Thanks for your compliments, and don't worry about it. About the article itself, I guess there's one good thing and one bad thing about it. The good thing is that I've been away from it for quite a while, and now it's huge. Full of new stuff (even pics!), so I guess that's a good thing.

The bad thing is, it looks like there's a little war going on there. I know I can't judge nobody just now (also because I'm not entirely sure of what's going on), but it looks like your buddy Pedro has some strong opinions regarding the article. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but that's bad a approach. There's just one thing we gotta have in mind: On Wikepedia, people can't take control over a situation ALONE. If someone says something, edits something, and then 4398759832948647 other members say "this is not right", you'll have to eventually give up. A single member can't carry away with an article alone, or worse, expect everybody else to agree with that.

I am Brazilian (for real), and I've lived there for twenty years (my current age). I know I have never been abroad, but I guess I can speak for the things we have here. About things from outside, I can only ponder and take my best guess. Give my best shot. Thankfully, I'm usually not that wrong when I do that, but that's probably because I'm just lucky. About the subject of the Portuguese language itself, I don't know about you guys, but despite all the things people say, I do think it's a terribly complicated language. Full of bizarre little rules and other things that don't quite make much sense. Actually... they do make sense, but a lot of stuff only works because people are already used to it. To study things deep may be a good thing, but it could also drive one mad. Several things in the Portuguese language (the Brazilian one, at least) work so well because it is backed up by tradition and popular culture. When you bother to study the very bowels of the grammar, you'll have the clear impression you're dealing with something completely different. A different universe. So yeah, I do think it's a very hard language. Much harder than English (which should already be obvious to everyone) and other European languages like French. But that is just a guess as well. Hope I'm not thinking too far on this.

The Brazilian Portuguese is still very connected to the Portuguese from Portugal, like I said, and some people just hate that. I know teachers that would chop their right arms just to have new grammar rules created. Rules that would kill all those old guidelines that make no sense for us Brazilians. Things that are there just for looks, but in practice, they are not applied. They might look fancy and all that jazz, but they are not practical. About the students, they hate it regardless. Don't even need to explain why. This is not a nation of masochists.

Anyway, I really don't know if there's anything to be done. Hell, I don't even know what's going on, but that's alright. Thanks for your message, and carry on. – Kaonashi 13:21, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hello. I did say the BP is still very connected to the EP, and that's exactly why people hate the old rules. Because they're full of stuff that most people here think of as "unnecessary". I've had several teachers complaining about the way those rules never change, and the way they're very much "lusitanian". I'm not saying EP is hard or similar to Latin (like someone is telling other people...). All I am saying is that it's indeed too far from our reality. Those same teachers I had used to say things like "People, when you graduate (on "Letras", more specifically), do something about this. We are powerless regarding our own language, so when you make it out of university, try to make those rules more acceptable. Take those old bums out of the Academia de Letras. Nobody can stand these pointless rules anymore". That'll give you an idea.

I do know the spoken language is VERY different from the grammatical rules we're taught in school. It's still the same stuff (same language, same rules), but in practice, it varies greatly (this is the kind of thing that makes me think Portuguese is specially difficult, by the way). What I'm saying is, lots of people would rather see our Portuguese developing even more on itself, instead od being so intimately connected with EP. That's all. No Latin, no nothing. That's bull.

About the Brazilian Portuguese article, I did what I did because it seemed pretty bad. It really needed a new revision. Makes me wonder why an article that big was so full of typos and other weird stuff, for example. And yes, perhaps it was better to take off that Band comment. Doesn't quite fit there.

About Pedro... that's very weird. He said you're coming up with different user names, but if you aren't and he stills insists on using that argument against you (to get you banned), there's absolutely no reason to worry about, don't you think? I'm not sure of who that NoHat guy is (maybe a mod, don't know), but if he wants to get you banned, he'll ask for the help of someone with powers. Those kind of people have means of verifying IPs and checking if someone is an MPD. That stands for "Multi Personalty Disorder", a term used in message boards to describe people who create lots of accounts to troll around. If that's not your case, there's nothing to worry about. If Pedro thinks everybody who's against him is either dumb or just another "you"... well, perhaps he's really running out of resorts. I said "PERHAPS". I still didn't bother checking things well enough to know what's really going on.

Now, if he thinks I am you, that's really idiot of him. It's damned obvious we're different persons. Just look at our writing styles, for example. I posted those things there because those are my opinions, and because I'm pretty sure they reflect the opinions of a large share of the population here. I'm not trying to be arrogant, but that's what common sense tells me (and should be telling other people as well). I don't know if that's what he thinks (that we're the same guy), but maybe I'll drop a message on his talk page and show him that he's terribly wrong. – Kaonashi 13:34, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Done. 'Cause I'm slow like that. – Kaonashi 14:15, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
