Untitled[edit]

So, there's a place named "Fishkill" and its page on Wikipedia doesn't explain the origin of the name? C'mon, there must be a story behind this.

Not as exciting as one might think. Certainly not that exciting to New Yorkers accustomed to such "grisly" names as Catskill Mountains! The Dutch settled the area and named it "Vis-Kil", or fish creek, which of course was anglacized into Fishkill. You'll find all kinds of kills all throughout the erstwhile New Netherlands.

Removal of separate term[edit]

I removed the following from the end of the article:

Fish kill is also a phenomenon in aquatic ecology when fish and other organisms die because of oxygen depletion or chemical water pollution

de:fischsterben

Simply because it had nothing to do with Fishkill, NY, which is the title of the page.

Removed the part about the Hudson Valley Bears, because the team and its league no longer exist, and they played in Poughkeepsie which is a few towns away. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.239.67.205 (talk) 06:05, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

I added a reference to support my item about PETA wanting the named changed. I did it in precisely the same manner as I did on the Fishkill_(town),_New_York page, but for some reason it is returning an error here. Any idea why?--Mfwills (talk) 19:27, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't include the final ">" symbol at the end of "</ref". You may want to use citation templates like {{Cite web}} and {{Cite news}} in the future. --Gyrobo (talk) 20:55, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"suburb of New York City" should be removed[edit]

Though opinions may vary on what "suburb" means exactly ... the distance (60+ miles) and amount of other towns and open space between Fishkill and NYC indicate that it is not a suburb. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dgchaps (talkcontribs) 15:45, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
