Expanding

We need some information about the origin of the name White, as well as its prevalence in various countries. We should also sort the names into categories, as well as maybe put a short description next to the names.

I agree it would make the entry more interesting than a simple list. I dropped similar notes on the Bennett entry - origins, geneaology, coat of arms, famous Whites and also people and places named White (or in this case possibly named after a White). (Emperor 20:39, 20 November 2006 (UTC))

Explorers and pioneers

Never heard of an astronaut called Justin Michael White. I also didn't find anything about such an astronaut anywhere. And, just a little question, how can he (probably he doesn't exist) be a son of Ed White, the first American spacewalker, and be born in 1982, like this page claims? Edward Higgins White died on January 27, 1967 at Cape Canaveral, Pad 34 in Apollo-spacecraft 012 on top of Saturn 1B booster AS-204, when a fire broke out at approximately 6:32 p.m. (Apollo 1) According to the Wikipedia article he had two children, Bonnie Lynn and Edward III. White/Whyte wikis in other languages

The most recent update to the article was by a bot which changed the German link from White (Familienname) to Whyte, which seems to be a bad change. I've looked at what else exists in this area, and found the following:

• German: White (Familienname) (large and well-organised) and Whyte (small)
• French: White (large but with more than just surnames) and Whyte (small)
• Russian: Уайт (fairly small, covering both White and Whyte, and the Isle of Wight).

It isn't that important, but if we do want to get the international links right, the easiest way would be to split off Whyte into a separate article. That might be preferable in any case. What do people think? If no-one comments, I'll probably do it. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 15:47, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Rewrite/reorganization

I followed Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy/Standards to rewrite or reorganize this article.
As per MOS:DABNAME the List of real and fictional people with the surname White is too long for the primary article White (surname). As per MOS:DABNAME - "For short lists of name holders, new sections of Persons with the surname Xxxx or Persons with the given name Xxxx can be added below the main disambiguation list. For longer lists, create an anthroponymy list article and link to it from the disambiguation page. If it isn't clear that the article includes a list, consider mentioning that in the description."
As per WP:INTDABLINK - created a list that points directly toward the relevant article. "With few exceptions, creating links to disambiguation pages is erroneous. Links should instead point to a relevant article." Jrcrin001 (talk) 21:54, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
