Categories[edit]

I wonder why there is a need for two categories - this one and Category:Transport in Merseyside? Since Liverpool is part of Merseyside it seems a little perverse. The same thing obtained in West Yorkshire where there was also a category for Leeds.

  • It's part of a consistent structure. Check out Category:Buildings and structures in Merseyside which has subcategories for each of the five boroughs and Category:Sport in Merseyside which has four subcategories, there being insufficient articles to create the fifth one for Knowsley yet. It's the same with Transport, there are only sufficient articles for a Liverpool subcategory at present, but hopefully this will change as Wiki grows. The alternative of creating the structure in advance and leaving sparsely populated / empty categories, see Category:Schools in Merseyside, also draws negative comment. I'll put back structure to be consistent. Please post any comments. Thanks. Shrew 23:02, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Transport by City[edit]

My thinking on this subject is that even without the Transport by City cat there are already at least three (and often more!) routes for getting to articles on transport in a particular city: by the search box, by the individual City cat/article and by the Transport by Country cat. The extra Transport by City cat was an un-needed route; it was only partially populated, contained other partial cat systems, and led to editors getting confused as to which cat to use for their articles - some using City, some using Country and others using both. In short, the cat was not enabling clarity and ease of use for either editors or readers. And I was bearing in mind that "Restraint should be used as categories become less effective the more there are on any given article." SilkTork 23:48, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
