Rather than a religion stub, this term IMHO is a kundalini stub (and indeed is linked to from kundalini). Although religious ecstasy might be attributed to Shaktipat, it is more likely a masifestation of "loving-kindness", which is an emotion according to the buddhist system. Loving-kindness is not necessarily induced by anyone - people experience ecstasy not only by proximity to a spiritual figure but also by looking at idols and so on.

The last two examples illustrate the potential for abuse of this practice, where psychologically needy 'disciples' are encouraged to become dependent on the guru for periodic 'fixes' of energy treatment, that are doled out in exchange for financial donations or sexual abuse. It is one of the main factors in cult abuse, and explains the difficulty in deprogramming cult victims, as they are literally undergoing a form of withdrawal as if from a drug addiction.

Many thanks for your efforts. Pseudo-scientific anti-religious bias is clearly seen.

Also, I removed a sentence that stated that shakti and holy spirit are believed to be the same. There was no reference given as to who believes that holy spirit and kundalini are the same.

AIDS Cured !

4. Bhanwar Lal
