Irony: Is it acceptable in Wikipedia?[edit]

From the article: "Former bandmates Bryan MacLean and Ken Forssi both died while Lee was incarcerated, forever ending any speculation as to a full-fledged Love reunion."

That bizarre notion is funny, damn funny... but is it OK to make fun like that in a wiki article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.237.250.75 (talk) 06:35, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Post-Love[edit]

Anyone want to add a "Post-Love" section, with his recent album release, etc? I'm afraid I lack the knowledge of Arthur Lee's history needed to write about it.

Prison[edit]

This article omits Lee's entire prison period; someone want to rectify that? Seems like a pretty important part of the story to me (which I don't know enough about to write, and am not about to go fishing around on the Web to piece it together).--66.52.186.158 05:35, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article has a lot of problems as far as I can tell. There's nothing about Lee's role in getting the Doors signed to Elektra records - he personally recommended them to label head Jac Holtzman. The author discounts all of Love's work from the fourth album (Four Sail) on; there's nothing about Lee's solo releases; there's nothing about Lee's collaboration with Hendrix, "The Everlasting First"; nothing about the many re-formations of Love throughout the '70s and '80s; nothing about Lee's lengthy jail term in the mid-90's....It sounds like it was written by a semi-well-informed fan, but this article needs more meat.

"psychedelic black man archetype"? I'm not getting offended or 'right on' but that could be worded a bit better lol.

Death[edit]

  • First Syd and now Arthur. What a terrible last four weeks it's been :-( Martyn Smith 18:33, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree Martyn. Foreverchanges1167 (talk) 14:18, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

Isn't there an image of Mr. Lee where you can see his actual face? Wencer 03:42, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name[edit]

Arthur Taylor Porter seems to be the more favoured (rather than Arthur Lee Porter). Can we clear up the difference of opinion on the main article page - particularly now that Mr Lee is sadly no more ? Derek R Bullamore 13:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to Barney Hoskyns, Arthur Lee - Alone Again Or, 2001, ISBN 1-84195-085-5 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum, the full name on his birth certificate was Arthur Porter Taylor. Hoskyns quotes Arthur's mother as stating that he was nicknamed "Po" as a child, as an abbreviation of Porter. This seems quite authoritative, but when I first added this information, it was reverted by another user. If there is evidence that his birth name was NOT Arthur Porter Taylor, can it please be set out. (Great man, by the way, and I'm proud to say I once shook his hand !) Citations regarding criminal records[edit]

It may be useful (especially for those with a strong position on three-strikes laws) to provide citation on the criminal record and resulting prison term.

One sided[edit]

I don't know, there are several pages on Love and Arthur Lee and they seem quite one sided and opinionated to me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tidm (talkcontribs) 01:46, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I feel the same way and many things don't make sense i.e He went to school with the same person in his original birth place and also after his mother moved and divorced his father in another state. He was called a hustler in this article and that doesn't make sense. Do they mean he was out trying to get gigs? Also when did playing on a session equate to future collaborations with Hendrix. And how does going to the same clubs as Mick Jagger indicate a relationship or even importance except as a tie in to a Hendrix collaboration. A session player does not collaborate, he's a hired employee. One last point he was called a hustler and if so that may be why so many titles of songs are names or lines in other songs Beatles She comes in colors, Lou Reeds Stephanie knows and (seven and seven is) a song from a Bob Seger album. I have recently been listening to my 60's Love albums and thought before I actually heard the song I didn't know Lee wrote that song. There are a couple others songs I can think of also. This could explain the statement of Love being such an major influence because those song titles are by far influential songs albeit not the ones by love. It has been over 30 years since I listened to Love and I thought they were covers. Love was a great group but this article is offensive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:cfa0:990:20d:93ff:fe30:bd50 (talkcontribs) 22:58, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Make-Up's "Free Arthur Lee"[edit]

I didn't actually know who Arthur Lee was until I decided to look him up based on The Make-Up song "Free Arthur Lee." Can we include this tidbit somewhere - that they wrote a song for him?

Thanks.

Fair use rationale for Image:Arthurlee.jpg[edit]

Image:Arthurlee.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Comments added July 2010[edit]

I've removed the following contribution from the article page:

It should be recognized that Dave Chapple, Mike Randle, David Daddyo Green & Rusty Squeezbox (aka David Ramsey, performed with Arthur as the LOVE band for more years than any other musicians. Arthur knew he could rely on them & he could simply go out there to do what he loved to do, make music. They were a team. Two weeks before Arthur's passing he asked me to be sure to tell each one he loved them all. Things happen in life we don't always understand at the time. This is not to take away Arthur's respect for any of the other band members or not recognize the friendship Arthur had with Johnny Echols or how much he respected Johnny's musicianship or Don Conka or Bryan MacLean or Michael Stuart or the list goes on & on with all of the following musicians throughout the years whoever performed with Arthur Lee. This is only said to recognize & draw attention to a great group of guys. Yes things happened in 2005 due to unknown illness and Arthur would attempt to move on musically until the illness stopped him but that does not take away from what was a great musical unit. Thanks for allowing me to write this addendum Diane Lee.

Sorry, but whether this is true or not (and it may well be), this is commentary which shouldn't be in the article itself - unless it has already been published elsewhere, and a source provided. The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth — whether readers can check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:41, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As it stands (in the absene of the quote's authenticity being verified) it is appropriate to relocate it here. If it could be verified as the words of Lee's wife Dianne it would be would not be unreasonable to re-include is sans its last brief sentence as a blockquote in that section.
Anyone capable of verifying the quote's authorship? Wikiuser100 (talk) 01:40, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was originally added (two years ago) here. The only person capable of verifying it would be Diane Lee herself - she could be contacted through her website, if necessary. Personally I don't really think it would add anything encyclopedic anyway. Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:55, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
