History[edit]

Hello.

Have added a "history" section. Needs a lot more work - especially after about 1980 (when I left Scotland!). Can anyone help? I feel it's a bit SNP-centred at the moment.

This whole article needs some background esp on the religious aspect of Scottish politics.

I believe that Government of Scotland is unnecessary duplication of links and information. Currently we have the following pages that relate the Politics and governance of Scotland:

Scottish Parliament (post 1998)
Parliament of Scotland (pre 1707)

The article Government of Scotland does not add anything new to our understanding, and it could be argued does not represent a neutral point of view. Yes other nations may have pages titled Government of but they are more sunstantive. I think Government of Scotland should be merged into Politics of Scotland and it then become a redirect. I've merged Scottish Government into Scottish Executive. What materials under government of Scotland are duplicating with those of politics of Scotland? And what is not neutral? Box showing Alex Salmond as First Minister[edit]

This information is wrong (as of 5 May 2007). The First Minister has to be confirmed by a vote in the Parliament; this has not happened yet. Alex Salmond will probably be First Minister, but he isn't yet and there is a chance of a coalition not involving the SNP. The box stating that Nicola Sturgeon is deputy First Minister is also wrong, and is entirely speculative. If the SNP went into coalition with the Liberal Democrats, it is more likely that Nicol Stephen would continue in that role. 82.41.202.199 20:00, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Table[edit]

Nationalist Bias[edit]

The article is clearly written from a nationalist point of view - which is not of course the position of the majority of the people of Scotland, who rejected independence 55% to 45% in a free and fair democratic referendum

For instance:

'The main political debate in Scotland tends to revolve around attitudes to the constitutional question' - unreferenced opinion

'Ultimately the long term question is: should the Scottish parliament continue to be a subsidiary assembly created and potentially abolished by the constitutionally dominant and sovereign parliament of the United Kingdom (as in devolution) or should it have an independent existence as of right, with full sovereign powers (either through independence, a federal United Kingdom or a confederal arrangement)?' 'Abolition, domination' and unreferenced opinion

'In general, the Unionists achieved their best results in the Glasgow area, due to the Orange vote.' There is so much wrong with this sentence it is not even funny
