Untitled[edit]

Do we really need a link to non-existent articles for every single player in the current squad? There's enough dead links in Wikipedia without adding 20 or so to the Dundalk FC article. We really don't need a separate article for every current player - if someone has info they can add it under their name - and if a player is notable or famous then they can get their own article. One of the most annoying things about Wikipedia is the tendency for everything in an article to be linked to an as yet non-existent article.

100 players with representative honours? Does anyone have any info on the most famous of these?

Im working on it!

Monumentally shafted by the FAI[edit]

I'm reremoving the previous stuff I removed. It was badly written opinionated nonsense - "Monumentally shafted"?. I'm going to remove it until I get around to writing up the recent news in a proper fashion.

Dates & dashes[edit]

En dashes should be used in scorelines and only full dates and dates with a day and month should be wikilinked, including in the footnotes. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). Epbr123 20:48, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:FAIEircomLOIsmall.png[edit]

Image:FAIEircomLOIsmall.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Drogheda Utd.[edit]

Is there any reason the rivalry with DUFC should be in the opening section of this article? It's certainly not a defining characteristic of Dundalk FC. I suggest it is deleted. Any thoughts? Belacqua Shuah (talk) 19:00, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agrred. Dundalk has not had that long of a rivalry with Drogheda.

Etienne Barbara[edit]

May I ask what your sources are for claiming Etienne Barbara being "on trial" for Dundalk F.C.? it would be interesting to hear, because when SC Verl started training this Monday, he was missing because of a "dentist visit"... -- 145.228.143.15 (talk) 10:32, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, confirmed by local press. However: Transfer period ends in one week, Etienne is currently "grounded" because of his dental surgery, and his contract with SCV runs till next year... I suppose it was a bit premature to include this episode on his Wikipedia page (and this one, too)... -- DevSolar (talk) 07:31, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As the transfer list closed today and I met Etienne this morning, I doubt his "being on trial" with Dundalk... -- DevSolar (talk) 22:40, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dundalk FC Colours[edit]

Please refer to page 54 of Jim Murphy's History of Dundalk FC, quoted from the Tempests Annual (1927) where Dundalk FC's new colours are referred to as: 'All white jerseys, with blue shield (Coat of Arms of Dundalk) and navy blue knickers'. Also note the photographs of that period in chapters 2-5. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Belacqua Shuah (talkcontribs) 22:24, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

I may be wrong but on a quick check it appears that the article has been vandalised by 189.71.91.103 and 189.71.86.183. I don't know sufficent about the club, etc., so maybe someone could check? Thanks Denisarona (talk) 10:40, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, taking a look now. I will copyedit as I go - please revert me if I inadvertently change the meaning. Questions below: cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 23:03, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is this still a thing? Them the highest ranking club in Europe?
    • Highest ranked Irish side. Have tried to clarify further in prose.
  • The very last sentence in the lead comes across as promotional. I'd convert it into timeline and drop mention of the centenary. Also avoid one sentence paras
    • Added to History section under 2019 season and edited.
  • The article is not that big and could have double the size of prose before there is a real problem with size. I say this because reading the history section has an incomplete feel in places - e.g. why/how did they become independent of G.N.R.?
    • Was afraid it was too big and broke History out to History of Dundalk F.C.. Have put more relevant material back in to address comments below.
  • The club was inactive again in the 1917-18 and 1918-19 seasons - I presume from WWI but should be added
    • Yes, done.
  • ...steered Dundalk to a ninth 'miracle' League title in 1994-95. - why "miracle", let facts speak for themselves rather than have commentary like this.
    • Citation quoted source for use of 'miracle', but have removed.
  • But the capital debt became a millstone around the neck of the club, nearly dragging it under in the early 1970s. - needs a reference, also could do with some clarification and expansion.
    • Done.
  • Dundalk hired English player/manager John Smith ahead of the 1973-74 season - from where?
  • But by the early 1990s Dundalk were in severe financial trouble,[18] with attendances declining and operating costs far outstripping club revenue. - needs another ref and some explanation
    • explained and citations added.
  • But Keely's title success could not halt the decline. - so they were steadily declining throughout this period of success or did that happen later?
    • Decline started around 1992 and trend was downwards to relegation in 1999 despite title in 1995. Have rewritten to clarify.
  • FYI, Cardiff City F.C. was recently promoted to Featured Article status, so I recommend following the layout of that (i.e. the honours section where it is looks odd as it breaks up the prose.)
    • Thanks, have used it as a template and moved sections accordingly.

Anyway, a good basis for a good article and shouldn't take too much fixing Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 03:16, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • The crest disappeared from the playing shirts by 1930 for unrecorded reasons, but presumably as a cost saving measure. - does Murphy speculate about this? If so say so, if not, best remove.
    • Yes, edited and added appropriate citation
  • The last para of the Rivalries section is unreferenced. Rivalries seem to be contentious on many club pages, so sourcing needed here.
    • edited para down to single verifiable claim with citation.
  • Okay moving on. No copyvio detected (a good thing!).
  • Are there no possible photos of the fellers running around on the field kicking the football? Maybe reaching out to some folks that have been taking some snaps on flickr (looks like they've all tagged as "all rights reserved").? Note that this ain't a dealbreaker as if we can't get then we can't get - it'd just be nice....Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 20:42, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
