Untitled[edit]

I have undertaken a major rewrite of the text to bring it into line with several other pages dealing with linked related matters that I have been working on. I have also become aware of the fact that whoever set up a lot of these entertainment related pages simply lifted copy from other Internet sites, so that several web sites all contained IDENTICAL material. The several "Rank" related entries now no longer copies since they have ORGIGINAL text, format and researched material that I have contributed to Wikipedia, thereby avoiding any further or future copyright problems. Rank Arena[edit]

Why is Rank Arena directed to this page? Are the two related? As far as I know Rank Arena is a television manufacturer.

Rank Arena Brand Name[edit]

I believe the Rank Areana brand was bought up in Australia by Target. They are badging some of their own goods (eg, digital tv sets) with it. RHM or Rank Hovis[edit]

The business was started by Arthur J Ranks father, and was inherited upon his death. Therefore, it cannot be considered to be part of the 'modern' Rank empire in the same way that the cinematic and subsequently aquired businesses are, seeming to have run outside of the Rank Organisation / Rank Group structure.

Error - Wombling Free is twice in the Rank movie list[edit]

Carlton Television[edit]

London franchise holder Carlton TV and Carlton Communications were confused by a previous writer. Carlton Communications, the parent company who purchased the Rank Film Distribution library of classic filsm, is part of Granada International, a division of Granada Media, merger partner to the recently formed ITV plc.

Odeon cinema chain[edit]

"After (Odeon's) creation, it was allegedly named after its founder's own ambition: "Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation", but this was just a publicity myth" - I've added a [citation needed] tag to this - it would benefit from some sources to support (or refute) the claim Dom Kaos (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Top Rank Dancing and Bowling[edit]

In the late 1950's and early 1960's as the company expanded into new fields, Top Rank Bowling was created which built a number of 10 Pin Bowling Centres around the UK, including major locations such as the two level lanes in Golders Green , north of London. In addition as the growth in pop music and dancing developed a string of Top Rank Suites were opened acroos the UK in major cities. The Managing Director of this group was Jim Whittle, an enthusiastic Australian who drove the organizations growth forward no matter what impediments appeared. Some of the original Top Rak Suites were in towns such as Doncaster but quickly with new locations were developed and built in Watford, Croydon, Leicester, Birmingham, Brighton, Swansea and others. In the 1964–1966 period three or four new suites were being opened every year.

Top Rank also owned a number of hotels at this time including skiing resorts in Scotland; a major project was initiated on the edge of Hyde Park which was to become what is now called the Royal Lancaster Hotel. This new hotel opened with a flourish in the mid 1960's - being one of the first to install color TV sets in its south looking suites that overlooked Hyde Park, and it hosted the UK National Broacasting show in around 1966. Soon after, as part of the now accelerating consolidations, Rank Theatres, the operators of the movie theatre chain including the Odeon sites, took over the combined Top Rank Leisure Services (the dancing and bowling arm) together with the hotel chain which as eventually sold off.
