You are right. I still think active learning doesn't belong on this page, so I created a new page active learning (machine learning) and moved the material there. I should note, however, that the active learning material is not representative of the field and needs to be rewritten. Tdietterich (talk) 06:02, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Merge

I don't think it should be merged, because Function approximation is a mathematical approach to the problem, just like how neuroplasticity is a biological approach to it Paskari 20:41, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

This article is a very solid description of supervised learning (at least according to my limited understanding of the subject). However, it could be even better if there could be sources provided. Right now, there are none. 11:24, 24 November 2006

Inconsistency of facts

The overview section says that the Gaussian Mixture Model is one of the most commonly used classifiers. But the Gaussian Mixture Model article says that a Mixture Model can be regarded as a type of unsupervised learning. Can a something be both supervised and unsupervised learning, or are they mutually exclusive? •• Fly by Night (talk) 20:40, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Classification?

Doesn't "labeled data" imply classification, which is just one kind of supervised learning? If so, the first para needs to be rewritten to clarify this. Also, why is it called "supervised"? DenisHowe (talk) 15:39, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
