Caricom[edit]

I raised the question of User:SimonP's Talk page - hopefully he will reply somewhere. I agree with you on the Caricom tags. Guettarda 16:10, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Sensoryoverflow[edit]

Is there a problem adding political donations on the Sprint Nextel Wiki page? Do I need to ask for a moderator? They will side on my side as they have in the past. Political donations are a very informative part of a corporate make up. They shouldn't be ashamed of who they give money too. It is what it is, and it is not biased. It is simply information.

Category:American dependencies[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you are removing this cat from Anguilla - while it is unfortunately named, is it actually inappropriate? (I do think the cat should be re-named). Guettarda 18:21, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The category covers: Non-sovereign territories in North America, South America or the Caribbean. As Anguilla is non-independent, the category is appropriate. The name of the cat is misleading - technically accurate, but misleading wrt common usage of the word "American". Guettarda 18:47, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Category:Dependencies in the Americas would be a lot better. As for adminship - you have a week to get 80% support. I sure hope I get there before 2020. Guettarda 02:25, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm going to put this up at WP:CFD. Do you think we should go with Category:Dependencies in the Americas, Category:Dependent territories in the Americas, or can you think of something better? Guettarda 13:20, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I prefer the Dependent terrritories in the Americas myself - so let's go with that. I'll do it later on today and drop you a note. Guettarda 16:07, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Countryboxes are recommended by Wikipedia:WikiProject Countries. Most countries seem to have them. Or do you mean these navigation temples like {{Caricom}}? Mixed opinions on that - SimonP leads the oppostion there, and general feeling seems to be that there shouldn't be more template than text. Or did you mean something else? Guettarda 22:44, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I proposed the change at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2005_June_24. Please indicate your support there. Guettarda 23:03, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Caribbean Wikipedians[edit]

Hi. I was thinking about putting together a "Caribbean Wikipedians' Notice Board", and I was wondering if something like that - a resource to try to guide and develop coverage of the wider Caribbean. I put together a list of the (Anglo-)Caribbean people I could think of here, I also have links to some of these other boards so you can see how they look/work. Let me know if it interests you. Guettarda 30 June 2005 22:54 (UTC)

Check out Wikipedia:Caribbean Wikipedians' notice board. Guettarda 1 July 2005 02:31 (UTC)

No need to pick a single country. If you don't mind my asking, are you born in Barbados and based in Trinidad, or the other way round? Guettarda 6 July 2005 17:18 (UTC)

Saw the update. Really didn't think you were located outside of the Caribbean - your edits seem too immediate, too present in the Caribbean to be made from outside. Well, congrats - it shows good writing, hard work and dedication. With the notice board, the portal, and a whole set of new collaborators, this is really getting interesting. Guettarda 8 July 2005 03:25 (UTC)

This is taken from the 2007 cricket world cup page - can you understand what it means?

"Australia, India, England and West Indies have been placed in separate pools to allow for logistics."

I - amazingly - am not playing Tardis Tennis at the moment. 3 July 2005 21:46 (UTC)

-it looks like it has been clarified, but cheers (C'mon England) - I - amazingly - am not playing Tardis Tennis at the moment. 5 July 2005 16:06 (UTC)

Peer review[edit]

After days of fixing the page on The Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation, I am asking you to determine whether it is eligible for featured article status. Read its peer review page and leave any comments inside it.

Someone needs Leonard Maltin's Movie and Video Guide to complete the article (with his comments on the film from that book). Do you, or does anyone you know, have a copy? --Slgrandson 16:16, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Caribbean questions, take II[edit]

Hi! How are you?
I was wondering whether there's been any news on Nevis and/or Turks & Caicos since October; I haven't read anything at all at Google News since then, but thought you might know more. Thanks! —Nightstallion (?) 13:54, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to remind you that you might want to answer my e-mail. ;) Thanks! —Nightstallion (?) 08:36, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In case you missed it, I wrote you another e-mail some time ago...? Cheers! —Nightstallion (?) 16:38, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And yet again, I'm not sure whether you simply missed my two replies (including a few bits of info for you and a further question from me), or whether you'll reply some time later. ;)Nightstallion (?) 06:34, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just came online. I saw one of your replies on the Chief Minister's talkpage (Turks and Caicos Islands one). I was going to update that today since it seemed like a large task. I didn't want to fall asleep, or get called away in the middle of it. It's a bigger task then it sounds but I rememeber Queen Elizabeth has a bunch of pages that where the "Chief Minister" title might be entwined. One such page was something like "Heads of Government during/under Queen Elizabeth II" etc. which are pages that will all need changing. I figure the easiest way would be to go thru the list of "What links here" and do that one-by-one. And then go by the old Chief Minister's name and do the same "What links here" again...
P.S. Was there another response somewhere else that you made? I'll check my email now. 14:32, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I'd still need confirmation that the new level of autonomy which T&CI have is equivalent to Bermuda's before updating a few pages, myself...? —Nightstallion (?) 19:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yikes, I couldn't tell you. I don't know much about either the TCs nor Bermuda. I've just been sticking to strictly what the article says. CaribDigita

Good work with the Economy of Barbados[edit]

Just saw all the changes you made. Keep up the good work. Nach0king 20:49, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Farewell for now...[edit]

If you didn't know yet, I'll be starting to come to your island in less than an hour. I won't be with you Wikipedians for the next six days...so wish me luck on that Green Card! --Slgrandson 17:24, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OECS[edit]

I've just read that the OECS states have signed a new treaty and adopted a common flag -- will you be adding info on that to the article? =] —Nightstallion (?) 10:46, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Nightstallion, as far as I know- if what I read was correct then the flag for the OECS wont be unveiled until ~ the 23rd of next month(June? '05). You know it's a gooood thing you asked me because I don't know how to upload on Wikipedia yet. Was there a chance you were going to upload the flag? *grins* CaribDigita 16:34, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On the left of each page, below the "search" box, there's a box which has a link "Special:UploadUpload file". Make sure you put an appropriate copyright tag (ask me if you need help there). Guettarda 16:52, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Guettarda! I think---- I just might have it.
Nightstallion: It looks like someone already updated the flag... 'Jolly-good-show' I say... Hopefully the old 1981-2006 OECS flag wasn't tossed. I find this new flag is really overly-complicated. Could you imagine trying to re-create it on your own computer without the exact specifications?? I always thought flags were suppose to be simple. Not something that is a challenge to create everytime photoshop is loaded. Lets see how long this flag lasts. And by all means I hope the company that made the OECS flag never loses the original on their computer. :-) CaribDigita 02:51, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's been made official now. When will you upload it? ;) —Nightstallion (?) 13:09, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Red Line Question[edit]

I noticed the question you posted on the Red Line (MBTA) talk page. Why did you delete it upon finding the answer? You shouldn't delete something like that from a talk page, even if you put it there. It was a legitimate question, after all, and I had wondered about that as well. Even if it did exit on the Cambridge side of the Charles, I don't understand where it was. Judging by maps of the Red Line, Harvard Station is as close as the tunnel gets to Harvard Stadium. So, if you don't mind, could you revert the talk page back with your question, and put in the answer? Thanks. Foxmulder 16:09, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sorries about that. I've put it back, in reading your note I forgot to add the answer which I'll do juss-now... CaribDigita 02:51, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nevis update[edit]

Hi there CaribDigita! I saw your addition of the news link to the Nevis page, so I figured you would be the best (only) person I could write this to: Everybody else adding to the Nevis page seem to think that nothing interesting has happened in Nevis since the last British ship sailed off for America with the pilgrims (or something). ;) There's this long, long, long section about which European ships sailed past and then another section about how the most famous Nevisian was the son of a Scotsman who left for St. Croix at 9 and then for the States shortly after, followed by another section about how the second most famous Nevisian is a British admiral swinging by to get married on his way to Trafalgar. Sigh. Anyway, I'm looking for a picture of Eulalie Spence (famous female Harlem renaissance playwright from Nevis) for the article, and one of Willet, to put at the bottom to compete with Hamilton and Nelson, and I still have to add a Culturama section and fix the history section (those marked red are my work-in-progress sections), but as soon as those are taken care of, I think these updates could be added to the old page. Only thing, I've been living in the US for a while now (I spent most of my life in the Caribbean and in Sweden (dual citizen), but I have been gone from Nevis for almost 8 years now, off and on, living in different parts of the world, last in Cali..and I suddenly realize that I'm hopelessly prone to put in Z instead of S and commit other Caribbean grammar faux-pas now.) Please Digita, if you're not too busy, would you be able to help out and get that Nevis update organised and ready to be added, pretty please? I put it in my sandbox for now: User:Pia L/sandbox, because I like to think things over in peace first, before I get too distracted by other's editing. Uhm, it will be a long article. Do you think it needs to be split it up? All the best (hope you ae not gone for the summer), Pia 12:01, 23 June 2006 (UTC) (PS. Forgot to add: Do you know where the project page from Barbados went, the one created for the UNESCO slave trade and "Lest we forget" series? Is the archive online somewhere else these days? Described here [1] and [2]. I would love to use those documents here.)[reply]

Hi Pia, I'm right there with you. I'm in the U.S. too myself, juggling work and school. I must admit I don't know a great deal about Nevis, I've never been, I have friends from Nevis and I ask them questions about their home-land whenever I get a chance (Much like I do about all of the other Caribbean islands.) Over the last few months, I'm actually beginning to realize that right off the bat I gave myself a 12-mile marker in planning all kinds of things that I was going to-do/add all over Wikipedia, and I over exerted myself and burnt myself out. Then I hit the "I don't know what to do first" block etc. So right now I'm trying to finish up stuff I started around Wikipedia and get some of those articles to a place where I can decrease my role on many of those articles. Examples: I see Guyana is up and going so I've rather taken a hands off, Suriname too... Many of the other islands in the Caribbean are coming along. The OECS seem somewhat stagnate to me :-( so I try to help out there every so often but I don't quite have enough hours in the day to get to it always.

Antigua seems like it underwent a Wikipedia-wide collaboration but largely hasn't moved since.... As far as 'S' and 'Z' spellings, I do the same thing with the British based spellings all-the-time and in fact I've literally confused myself really bad in terms of my own spelling. Sometimes I absent-mindedly type things that are way off in spelling and when I happen by them again and I'm like 'eeek. what was I thinking?' anyway I know just where you're coming from... Hopefully we'll both find a way thru eh?

Anyway feel free to contact me whenever. I'll check out your sandbox wiki article in the mean time and try to think if there's anything else that might be missing that persons might be trying to find out say- 50 years from now. That's how I think of all articles I contribute to. What do I know know that someone might want to look-up 50 or more years from now. CaribDigita 02:51, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, CaribDigita. Sorry to put more stuff on your table and thanks for your kind reply. :) I have a lot of friends visiting here right now, so I actually put them to work today on the Nevis article, with rum punches as bribes (their Nevis lap tops, set to Caribbean English, worked wonders on my halting grammar and spelling). We actually got the thing up already, but man, it's 34 Kb! Is that too big? We better make it a Featured Article. ;) Lots of love, got to get dinner going now, so I'm off for the weekend. Pia 04:13, 25 June 2006 (UTC) Pia[reply]
Thank you for your nice message about the Nevis page. My problem right now is that I am traveling again this week, so I am having a problem getting online for long enough to do the updates requested on the "featured article" discussion page...bad timing, but such is life when reality interferes with cyber space. ;) We have been asked to add more text to that article to make it more complete, so now it will probably swell to 50 Kb or so. Way too big, in my humble opinion, but I guess featured articles have to have a lot more meat on the bones. All the best, Pia 09:43, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm having a very hard time explaining to a new user what constitutes appropriate material for an article about a town. I was wondering if you could drop by Talk:Chaguanas and try to resolve the dispute. Thanks. Guettarda 16:43, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Lee-Chin and Columbus Communications[edit]

Hello

I'm currently trying to improve the article on Michael Lee-Chin, and saw that you have started the article on Columbus Communications. Do you have any more info about them? I can't even find their website! Thanks Blowski 20:34, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know, rhey don't have a website currently. You tend to have to go by the info on FibreLink, New World Network , or http://www.CoralWave.com in the Bahamas. Or sometimes articles in the Jamaican Observer or Jamaican Gleaner newspapers. I outlined his business holdings like that because although I don't have the time to expand that article right now I'm fully open to someone else doing so, so I provided all the links I have as well. A lot is going on with them trying to buy new companies so I put the information I have about how they were founded so that could eventually go into an article.
P.S. Congrats- on doing a great job thus-far. CaribDigita 23:18, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, friends, this is it...[edit]

I'll be moving to Connecticut tomorrow along with my family. I'll be leaving Wikipedia for a while until everything gets set up at our new home. It all depends on my Internet access, but I'll be seeing you in a week or two. Bye! --Slgr@ndson (page - messages - contribs) 01:51, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tomorrow? I hope you have a smooth move. Boston Carnival is Saturday and Cambridge Carnival is the day after. *hint hint*... :-) hehe... But listen I hope the move goes well and without stress. Take care of your self and I hope to see you back online real soon. CaribDigita 02:05, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

Please see other countries, such as India for style guidelines. We don't use single use templates, and putting it in articles where its presence is not justified just to keep it is silly. Again, see Culture of India for that type of article and Economy of India for a proper economy infobox on that page. Also, if you are hell bent on using the template, be aware that you are not allowed to use the coat of arms in template spaces. As such, I have removed it from the temlate. --Bob 15:37, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barbados and the Royal anthem[edit]

CaribDigita, I take your points that the royal anthem is not the national anthem of Barbados, but at no point was anyone claiming that it was. You say that the "Royal anthem" is not a national symbol of Barbados, which by extension would mean that the Queen is also not a national symbol of Barbados, despite her being the Head of State and therefore the chief public representative (or symbol) of the Barbadian state.
Not true. Don't forget Queen Elizabeth II is a shared queen which can confuse a lot of people sometimes. Remember she's only 1/16th the Queen of Barbados. Any country that has her as their "Head of State" can give her certain powers or diminish them under their constitution. While one so called "realm" may pass have or pass a provision granting her certain powers a totally different realms' constitution may not include provisions for or recognize. Similarly I suspect that if another realm grants her a "Royal anthem" that shouldn't necc. translate to her having a "royal anthems" in all of the other countries.
Are we to then assume to that the Royal Barbados Police Force belongs to the Queen and all references to it should be in the article on the Queen? And which rule in Wikipedia says that certain information must only be displayed in one particular article?
About the RBPF: what does that have to do with adding an anthem which isn't recognized under Barbados law, to a Barbados article? I merely said the Royal Anthem should perhaps stay in the queen's article because it belongs with her. Her British song covers her role, and her provisions under the British government system. I could just as easily say to you name where in Barbados society that it says that anything she is granted in another realm automatically means she is granted the same in Barbados.
You say that Barbados has no "royal anthem", but that would only be correct if Barbados were not in fact a realm/kingdom (which it is). As I also pointed out, all the symbols of a country are not found in its constitution. I'm pretty sure that the details and designs (or even the mandated existence) of Barbados' national currency, the Barbadian dollar are not found in the Constitution.
Welp. Here's the constitution and the official code om Etiquette for official national symbols and emblems again the "royal anthem" is also not taught in schools. Page 4 Money is covered because Barbados played around with having its own money at the time of independence. Also the Queen is not shown on Barbados' money incase you were wondering.
The national anthem, national motto, national flower, national coat of arms, etc...absolutely none of these are to be found in the Barbadian Constitution. That document simply outlines how the State functions (government) and how the State relates to its citizens (rights, elections, etc.). At any rate I was simply following the form seen in the pages for Canada, Australia, Denmark etc. and on none of these pages have I seen any discussion to the effect that the royal anthem only belongs on the page about the monarch.
I have not read the constitutions or various acts of parliament governing the OECS states in the Caribbean and their national emblems so I let it go. Also whenever I try to work on too many articles at once all of my hard work gets voted off for deletion as half-finished work in small countries that I guess other's feel don't matter. So I now pretty much only focus on Barbados and occationally other Caribbean islands when I can. As far as never being discussed. That doesn't mean anything, 'Country Infoboxes' were voted off just last month and they've been around for a long time.
The only other comparable example was in the page for St. Vincent, where the reason given by one user called T-rex was that St. Vincent was not in the Commonwealth (which shows that he/she is not well informed about St. Vincent at all).
Again, the sneaky addition of something to a bunch of articles does not denote a concensus. If you do anything on Wikipedia it can be challenged if it is wrong or out of place.
Also, royal anthems are the songs of the national head of state, not the individual fulfilling that role, so in that respect the royal anthem is just as rightly placed in the article about the nation than in the article about the individual who is currently head of state, since royal anthems are not specific to any one individual (except insofar as the one for the Commonwealth realms is gender specific), but is specific to the institution of the monarchy. In that case the song would best be served on a page entitled "Monarchy of Barbados" or "Heads of State of Barbados" since when Queen Elizabeth II dies as she surely must the song will continue to be used for all her successors whenever they are present at any function in any state of which they are King or Queen. In contrast, the Queen's personal standard will not be used by her successors since it is only meant for her, just as how the personal coat of arms of Canadian Governor Generals are only used by those individuals and are not transferred or used by their successors.72.27.87.249 00:45, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Again a royal anthem would be if a country decides to officially confer upon their Monarch an anthem. Just because for example Canada passes in parliament or another commonwealth realm pass an act to recognise the Queen's song doesn't mean that it become defacto in all other states. Those countries would have to recognise the order themselves. The Barbados constitution recognises the British Queen as their monarch, and her heirs so that is a whole different matter. There's nothing in Barbados however that says just because Queen elizabeth has an officially recognised song in the United Kingdom that it become's the island's official song. I think it is out of place. CaribDigita 02:19, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's pretty simple really - everything in an article needs to be verifiable. Is there a reliable source that says that God Save the Queen has official standing in Barbados? If not, it doesn't belong in the article. Guettarda 02:37, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Queen Elizabeth II is 1/16th the Queen of Barbados? Where did you get that idea from? Okay, firstly, the Queen of Barbados and the Queen of Canada are separate legal persons. Anything Queen Elizabeth II does as Queen of Canada has absolutely no impact on Barbados (e.g. giving Royal Assent to the 1982 Canada Act). Likewise the Crown in Barbados and the Crown in Australia are separate legal entities (the Crown being the legal authority of the government and also the office of the Queen and a symbol of her reign). She is not 1/16th the Queen of Barbados (otherwise please name the other 15 sovereigns of Barbados' "sedecarchy" (for 16 rulers just as monarchy is for 1) since that is the only way there can be a person who shares the reign of Barbados). Queen Elizabeth II may be the same (biological) person but the separate constitutions of all the Realms creates separate legal frameworks around her (and her successors). Please read the Crown, the section on the evolution of the British monarchy into the separate monarchies for each Realm in theBritish monarchy article (note what the constitutional lawyer says), Development of shared monarchy, Style of the British Sovereign (from 1922 onwards), Royal and Parliamentary Titles Act 1927 and also the various discussions (probably in the archives) in these articles. Overall, whilst "shared" in a manner of speaking, she is not divided. Also any country on earth with a "Head of State" can give said head of state certain powers or diminish them under their constitution (just look at Nepal recently). You state that While one so called "realm" may pass have or pass a provision granting her certain powers a totally different realms' constitution may not include provisions for or recognize. This reflects her separate constitutional roles. The Royal anthem is not granted and does not have to be spelled out in a law. God Saves the Queen (or King) is essentially the royal anthem for the Crown and not just the separate legal entities of the Queen of the United Kingdom or the Queen of Tuvalu. It is true that New Zealand has God Save the Queen as an additional national anthem and that this does not automatically make the song the national anthems of all the other Realms, but that does not change it status as the royal anthem (the two being different with royal anthems being, of course, unique to monarchies).

My point about the RBPF is that its very name shows that a royal anthem can actually be placed in an article about Barbados and was also to show that Barbados is actually a Realm. As for "being recognized by law" I already pointed out that not every little detail is covered in a written constitution (some things are simply put down to tradition).

Hmmm... "Welp.". I really hope you weren't trying to spell "Whelp" (which is what you would be if you were trying - I've never called you a name so I don't expect you to start, if the tone is heated I apologize for that, but no name calling). I'll ask you again to please point out exactly in the Constitution you can find anything on any one of the following: The Barbadian national anthem, national flower, national flag, national pledge, Barbadian dollar, Queen's personal standard, Governor General's flag, national motto, etc. None of these are in the Barbados constitution (although the Irish constitution does outline its national flag), thus again proving my point that not everything is written in the Constitution of Barbados. I don't have to wonder if the Queen is shown on Barbados' money. She doesn't have to be shown. She is not shown on Jamaica's money and is only shown on a few bills and coins in Australia and Canada's money. Turks and Caicos and the British Virgin Islands use US dollars and thus they never see her face on money. Oddly enough, she is shown on the money used by Dominica, even though that country is a republic (of course, that is because Dominica is in a currency union with other countries that have used her face on the money since before Dominica's independence).

I don't understand something though. You say that you have "never read the Constitutions or various acts of parliaments governing the OECS states in the Caribbean".... but you distinctly pointed me to the Barbados constitution in the first revert edit summary? Well, I'm not sure how the OECS fit into all of this since Barbados is not in the OECS (but Commonwealth Caribbean constitution are for the most part fairly similar anyway). I can fully appreciate your dispair when you put in a lot of hard work and then it gets deleted or voted off. I mean, just look on the list of national constitution in wikipedia and in wikisource. I've noticed that not a single Commonwealth Caribbean constitution is there, yet they have just about every American constitution imaginable, plus all the documents related to the Australian, Canadian, British, New Zealand, German, Soviet, etc. constitutions. Just goes to show your right that people care less about those countries. I even remember recently having to put the Barbadian, Maltese, Malaysian and Indian nationality laws in the British and Commowealth Citizenship template and adding the Governor-General of the West Indies Federation to the Governor-General template and having to merge the two articles on CXC (which both amazingly contained different information). I take your point that what one Realm does for tradition or protocol/official procedure is not necessarily the same in others and at any rate, since it is not going to be as simple as finding an official document from Barbados about God Save the Queen (since tradition is not necessarily written down), then I won't press the issue. Having brought up the general neglect to smaller countries in Wikipedia, might you perhaps be interested in doing the Barbadian constitution in Wikisource and maybe creating a corresponding article here in Wikipedia? It shouldn't be too hard since the constitution can be found on a number of websites (and since Wikisource has to reproduce it exactly as how it appears) it would be a simple matter of just copying, pasteing and editing the text to conform to the Wikisource format. And if you're really interested (and if Guettarda is too) I could help you with the Constitution for the Federation of the West Indies (I have access to a copy in the library - but it's awfully long though). 72.27.87.249 07:22, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was asked to have a look at this discussion and weigh in on a Royal Anthem in Barbados. The short answer is: I don't know. I can, however, say that God Save the Queen is not the personal song of Elizabeth II, it is indeed a Royal Anthem, meaning it continues on for sovereign after sovereign, adapting to suit the gender of the monarch. Nor is the tune strictly a "British" song - it may have originated there, but, as the article on God Save the Queen states, it has been adopted by many other countries (even non-Commonwealth ones) as their own Royal Anthem.
In the case of the UK it has also become the de facto national anthem, just as the Royal Union flag (once a personal flag of the sovereign) has now become the UK's national flag - all through convention, never by any statute law. In Canada and Australia God Save the Queen is the Royal Anthem, in Canada merely by convention, and in Australia by a Royal Proclamation. In New Zealand it is actually officially one of two national anthems. So, clearly, the song is used independently in each Realm for the Queen in her capactiy as Monarch specifically of that Realm.
So, if Barbados does have God Save the Queen as a royal anthem (it certainly isn't the national one), it is only by Barbados' own will. However, it seems from the Barbados government website that the song isn't an official state one at all - the official Code of Etiquette states that for the Queen, any members of the Royal Family, or the Governor General, the national anthem is to be played, not God Save the Queen. --gbambino 16:03, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure about "produces several brands for the United States-based Coca Cola company? Last I knew Jaleel and the Coke bottler were distinct companies, and I can't find a reference to Coke on Jaleel's website. Guettarda 01:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for that save! I do stand corrected. I had meant to take that out. I had put it-in in reference to the drink "Fruita". I then went on to research that and realised they infact did not mean "Fruita" (by coke) but infact "Fruta" by their own company. I did forget to strike that coke line out. Thanks for saving me once again bud. I couldn't resist rolling out an article about S.M. Jaleel they've really done an admiral job elevating themselves to the level as a global company. Dame Olga Lopes-Seale. Guettarda 02:32, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have heard her name. I don't know a great deal about her. I figure she had to be someone importaint (with some kind of history) because last I heard this summer- she still has a radio programme on the Voice of Barbados. It's called "Olga's Beautiful Music" I found it to be mostly old English ballards and such, it plays on Sunday evenings. That's not really my radio-listening forte so I haven't followed her life but I have heard her on the station's Sunday lineup. As-far as the "Dame" title that would mean she was either knighted under the Queen/Commonwealth, or---- else she was awarded the Order of Saint Andrew (Barbados' own awards system) I'll have to find out what "service she has done for the nation." if she's actually a "Dame". Thanks... CaribDigita 02:48, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, once I figured out what the proper name was, there was lots of information. Guettarda 03:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't leave.[edit]

Your work is certainly appreciated. —Nightstallion (?) 19:47, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll probably stick around to fix things or help make things flow-better between articles. But I'm less-- likely to write any new articles because I've noticed there's some "Deletion task force" that seems hell-bent on deleting anything-- on Wikipedia (regardless of the importance, or without even holding a discussion.) They are quick to delete any article as long as it is not "about", "of", or "based on something about" the United States. I don't have that kind of time to waste if things are just going to speedy deleted by the Americans without even a discussion. Sorry to be blunt but I don't believe in "political correctness". CaribDigita 16:45, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missed this - I hope you don't leave - I can't be the only person active on Trini articles, and we need a good editor on Bajan articles. Any specifics? Email me. Guettarda 16:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I spoke to the admin who deleted it and he said that it probably was a questionable call. He restored the article, although he still has some questions about it. It's always worth talking to people - while some people will never admit that they have ever made a mistake, a lot of people are willing to listen to reasonable arguments. Guettarda 18:36, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ha-ha, I'm only trying to do my little $0.02.  :-) I was trying to find your email all yesterday and today. I can give you a bit more specifics..... Steelpan @ gmail.com (just remove the spaces in the address to reach my correct email.) There's much that I've tried to research about the Caribbean however there's also a lot I don't know. The stuff I'm aware of now, I'm trying to capture in-essence so that generations after me for example have some sort of written record about now.... Things like the Caribbean Court of Justice, CARICOM, the implementation of each etc. and what were the controversies being debated etc... Stuff some books or encyclopedias never have... That's just all around where I'm coming from when I edit. You've done a fantastic job on the T&T articles yourself... They are very thorough.
As far as the Solar Dynamics thing. That's not really the whole issue. It was kinda more like the camel's back... Wikipedia seems to be changing over the last 3-4 years. I'm going to be honest and say I'm not really liking this new style of administrator coming on board alot are very brute force, no discussion/nor consensus vote. (I don't mean like if someone annon. comes on Wikipedia, doing something questionable stuff, because then ofcourse once the intentions are unknown, or if the edits are not in the future best intrests of the article its ok to leave a comment and say why there's a disagreement.) But even before you get to that point now, some real heavy decisions are being made and carried out with the mentality of 'if you object now, bring it up later' which I think makes for an environment like a 3-ring circus. Environments like that I usually run-- far enough from because it means complete and total chaos is not far away.
Anyway I'll tell you some more later on...

P.S. Don't forget Wiki10, you've got them too. *grins* ,-) CaribDigita 23:29, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please CaribDigita, how will we all manage to keep up the standard of the Caribbean articles without you? You have made so many articles shine..it'll be awfully shadowy and chilly here if the Digita spark goes out. Pia 20:47, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Pia... I'd been meaning to just drop-you-a-next-note in this new year and congratulate you on the exceptional work you've done on the Saint Kitts and Nevis articles... I cetainly have noticed..... and wow! I saw some of those talk pages last fall too.... Some people asking if your articles could be Featured articles... WOW. Go ahead you! You sure jumped right in and changed that around. I'm very proud of the work you have done... Keep up the fantastic work.

I must say the articles on SKN have taken a complete and total metamorphosis. I was only trying to keep them from being voted off for deletion until someone could come along and give them a little TLC. After you came along, I knew those articles were in good hands. :-) I don't think I'd go away barnone. I'd probably just limit what I do-- so that if things I do contribute to were get deleted off here, (because the article is about a small country) then I'm less likely to feel like I'm throwing away/wasting my time when I should be studying or working instead. CaribDigita 23:29, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Solar Dynamics was kept CaribDigita, and the deletion tag looks like an error. Your good work is needed at the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Caribbean. By the way, please vote for St. George's, Grenada at the wikipedia creation and improvement drive [3]--Zleitzen 23:59, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commonwealth republicanism[edit]

Hi!

Say, I've recently found sources stating that it's (once again) likely that Barbados (link, it's just a little note in the fourth paragraph, though) and Jamaica (link, after the next general election) will become republics. Is there support for this in any of the other Caribbean Commonwealth Realms? Do you know more about these cases? Thanks! —Nightstallion (?) 09:20, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In Barbados it is possible, but IMHO unlikely for right-- now.... Reason being. Barbados has to hold General Government Elections I think--- between now and next year. In just over 50 days Barbados is holding part of the Cricket World Cup and all attention is being paid right now to that, and what Barbados' economy will look like coming out of it. Mainly because of the huge binge spending spree by the Government to prepare for the CWC. Jamaica might. They've got to hold a General Government election I think in 2008-2009(???) Portia Simpson-Miller is only surving out the last part of P.J. Patterson's term.

Saint Lucia was going into Constitutional reform before (during the Kenny Anthony administration) but his party lost the recent election. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are also going into Constitutional reform as are Saint Kitts and Nevis. But to clarify. Those last three states. I haven't heard them make it a policy of severing ties with the Monarchy. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines + Saint Lucia though were *asking* the question-- as part of their Constitutional reform. However they didn't really state a position either way. Since the Queen doesn't really do anything there's no pressure to put it on the front burner. Most constitutions have vested all the power that Queen Elizabeth has into the Governor-General already. Meaning the Queen would have to take the position of over-riding a country's native-born Governor General and impose her own decision. Something not very likely. Lest the Queen touch off revolt all over the Commonwealth as a P.R. nightmare. CaribDigita 00:11, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. And it's good to see you back to being active. The project is luckily to have you around, but on a personal level it's always good to have a good friend around, and good to have someone who's judgment I trust completely. BGI Format[edit]

Hey CaribDigita. Just wanna comment on the format you've swapped to over on the Grantley Adams Airport article. Now, there's nothing wrong with the destinations list you've updated, and it's great you've made it more accirate, but it can be accurate just the same in the uniform article format that the Airports WikiProject has come up with. The way you are presenting the airlines and destinations doesn't really match the way that the other hundreds of airline articles are presented on WP, and it kinda sticks out a bit. I'm not going to change it, but would you consider keeping the uniform format instead? Please reply on my page. Thank You. -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 22:05, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow... that was a pretty long reply. I like what you've said though, especially about the format, maybe you can head over to WikiProject Airports and suggest this format to be placed for all airport articles? -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 05:14, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey CaribDigita. I stumbled across this article and wondered if it shouldn't be expanded. What do you think? All that would be needed would be to include the indigenous names for Cuba (Cubanacan or Coabana I think), Jamaica (Xaymaca), Hispaniola ("Haiti" and/or disputably "Quisqueya"), Puerto Rico (Borikén) and whatever indigenous names can be found for the various islands of the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos (together called the Lucayas) and the Virgin Islands.72.27.161.159 (talk) 02:55, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. Your edits to the Fresh Pond article put the sequence of flow, which previously had been correctly stated, into an improper order. No one can be right all the time, but if I may offer "a word to the wise", please make very sure of your facts (preferably with reliable sourcing) before proceeding with changes so confidently and emphatically.
