User:69.140.78.87 complained about the explanation of levels. Another user complained about the explanation of PLDs; most really are look-up tables, but some are table-controlled general logic functions, so I added a note. Naming Convention[edit]

There seem to be confusion about two main topics in digital design: 1) digital electronics which is CMOS level design and 2) digital logic which is logic level design. Digital electronics is basically analog design of digital systems where tools such as pspice and cadence are used for simulation and design. On the other hand, digital logic is logic level design where tools such as xilinx, VHDL, or FPGAs are used for simulation and design.

For instance, in digital electronics an inverter is built using one nMOS and one pMOS (pure analog). This inverter is then used in digital logic to construct a flip flop (pure logic).

Digital technology[edit]

Digital technology redirects here. Et4y wants to remove the bold mention of the term because, "Digital technology is not the same as digital electronics." I have reverted because it's going to confuse readers who search for or follow a Digital technology link and don't find mention of it here. I'm not opposed to separating the two topics but we need to create a Digital technology article or find a better place to redirect it before we do. ~Kvng (talk) 13:05, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is certainly merit for creating a self-standing entry digital technology, which was attempted by the user, but it has to be original content and must not be material copied verbatim from another website, which I reverted by restoring the original redirect. Since you insist on reusing the copy-pasted material in that article by reverting and thus edit-warring once again, I have placed it under formal review as a copyright violation, so that it must not be modified before completion of the review. Kbrose (talk) 21:34, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think et4y has a point though. The early parts of this article have major problems, it blithely jumps in claiming that "vacuum tubes replaced relays for logic operations" without any suggestion of what the relays had been used for, and introduces binary numbering etc. far too early: digital electronics is /not/ all about computers. I've seen a claim that Thomas J Watson Jr had served in big bombers during WW2, and had been exposed to sufficient digital electronics that he could see its application to computers. I think that exploring that sort of thing would be a far more profitable introduction (but I'm afraid that I'm not offering to do it :-) MarkMLl (talk) 21:11, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
