Talk:Synthetic memory

There might be a more recognized or formal name for this phenomenon than "synthetic memory" that might be dug out of textbooks by a more studious person than myself. I needed a term, that is understandable and at least heard of in some circles for the context of rapidly generated "junk" memory that is a plague upon speed readers, so I created this article. The term false memory is not what I was looking for. Any ideas? Metaphorman 01:07, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

At its current state, this page just seems to be a less-detailed duplicate of false memory. I'm not sure what term you were looking for, but it doesn't seem to be found yet. The term "false memory" has rather gapingly broad semantics. However, in the literature it generally refers to memories from the distant past. It seems to me that this article is trying to aim for an idea that is slightly different, more to do with short term memory.... but the author blended the ideas of false memory syndrome into it, making a mess. Think about it, some sort of specialization of the concept of false memory in is order. This seems to be such an attempt - but not planned as much as it could have been, and possibly not completely at home in an encyclopedia. I can understand why the original author created this article. The thought of merging it makes me scratch my head.
