Hello. Please stop making the same obnoxious changes to the Gdansk article without discussing any of it in talk. john 04:26, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

May I suggest you read m:The Wrong Version? Pakaran. 05:29, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Just to note, your work on Gdansk is surely not destroyed. It is, in fact, present in the history, and if it is determined that your version is better through rational discussion, it can be reinstated. I'd further note that I almost certainly would not have reverted your edits if you had not repeatedly messed up the first paragraph of the article to the idiosyncratic version you've been trying to force it to for all this time. If you really cared about all those other changes, why didn't you just make them and not mess with the heavily contentious first paragraph? john 05:35, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I second John's comment above. If you want to keep the good stuff, stop tying it to the attempt to denigrate the German history of the city by trying to make the name Danzig minor instead of an important part of the city's history. RickK 05:44, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hello Gdansk. Please try to revise the history of pages (and of talk pages) before making changes that could appear trivial to you, but have been discussed ad nauseam. Danzig is one of them, the nationality of Copernicus is another. Actually, in Copernicus case the polish nationality is stated later in the paragraph. Please, do not engage hard-headedly in disputes before reading what has been written before. It may be necessary to compromise, but the hability to talk and compromise are vital to survive here. At least one user was banned that edited related article, not by her ideas, but for her steady refusal to work out compromises and not accpet anything but her version of the facts. I have not participated in any of those articles in a long time, but I have seen them change, and change...--AstroNomer 05:57, Feb 10, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Grzez! Why do you have to claim Germans like Copernicus were Poles? Aren't there any famous Polish people you could edit? Copernicus didn't even speak Polish. Nico 02:31, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Certainly he spoke German. All texts written by him were in German or Latin. The Copernicus manuscript book states: Nicolai Copernick Canonici Varmiensis, in Borussia Germaniae mathematici. Btw, you are funny, Grzez. Nico 02:45, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Copernicus were Polish citizen that served long years for Polish King. His father was also Polish citizen and he moved to Prussia, when Poland aquire it in 1454/1466. Polish citzen can speak or write whatever language he choose as long he is loyal to his homeland. Cautious 13:35, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Referring to others as Nazis is not acceptable, and can lead to your being blocked from editing. RickK 05:18, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Gdansk, Eric of Pomerania was not ally of Casimir during 13-years war. He was Teuton ally and switched sides (don't know how many times) trying to win territories for himself. Szopen

German/Polish names[edit]

What exactly is the harm in including German place names? Having very limited German (and zero Polish), but with an interest in the region since all my grandparents were from there--I find it very very confusing trying to track down where my ancestors are from. When working with historical documents giving only the German, it is helpful to be able to do a search and be able to find an article with the relelvant information. Bkonrad | Talk 22:43, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Well, I can't comment on Nico's politics. I have no basis. But as an encyclopedia, the alternate or previous names by which a place was known is fair for inclusion. It is certainly proper for the Polish name to be given as the proper current name. I can sympathize with your resentment of German domination (and don't forget the Russians). But I do not see how censoring the information that places were known by other names at other times will help. Bkonrad | Talk 22:57, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Actually, looking more closely at how Nico is making the edits, I can see that they are pretty obnoxious. It is not necessary to provide the German name for every Polish term in the article. In the Warta River, ONE single mention of the German name of the river would be sufficient. Bkonrad | Talk 22:59, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hello Gdansk, I do not think it is a good idea to include the Polish name for Munich, Kiel, etc. in the first paragraph. If we do this in all languages it might get a bit messed up: Munich (German München, Italian: Monaco, Spanish: Munich, Polish: Monachium Japanese: xxx, Esperanto: xxx) is the state capital..., don't you think so? Your actions on the Kiel page are not within the spirit of Wikipedia. Please confine your conflicts to talk pages. Making intentional conflicts has led to talk of banning other users. Hey Gdansk, I shouldn't have blocked you, so I apologize, but you were trolling and vandalizing and it was very frustrating. Polish cities should have Polish names, but Kiel, Munich, and others aren't Polish. You even said to me that you were changing those articles out of some kind of revenge. Adam Bishop 00:00, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Apologies half accepted, as I do not feel guilty, and you continue to claim that I was. That fulfills 0.5 out of my 3 demands at Wikipedia_talk:Administrators#Admin_powers_abuse_by_Adam_Bishop -- Mestwin of Gdansk 00:28, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
