Primary reasons (in no particular order):

  • Shift from sourceforge to Bugzilla, which displays email addresses for spammers to scrape
  • MediaWiki 1.3 developers wasting time on 'gee whiz' "enhancements" that actually make the software more cumbersome to use
  • Closing usability bugs as 'as expected', demonstrating lack of knowledge of how to design user-friendly software
  • Ignoring major problems with Speedy Del defs, and the inconsistencies they contain
  • Fickleness of Vfd voting--one day, an album by a reasonably notable group gets axed, the next, some minor anime fiction gets kept
  • Edicts from the mailing list
  • The recent (AFAIK) trend towards nominating for Adminship people whose actions don't demonstrate an interest in cleaning Wikipedia--No matter how brilliant a user's prose is, if they have never reverted vandalism, never tagged something speedy, never participated on VfD, why distract them by making them an admin?
  • Some of the nonsense on VfD
  • Too many unpleasant surprises
  • Re-hashing the same issues on VfD and/or Village Pump every 3 weeks to 3 months
  • Too many new contributors adding dozens of one or two sentence articles, throwing the ratio of 'adders' and 'cleaners' out of whack, causing too much to slip thru New pages or Recent Changes unchecked
  • Too many unilateral actions, such as removing allegedly incorrect VfD nominations, instead of posting the issue in the discussion

Two projects I may try to complete, anyway:
