In addition to her numerous works, Mansfield expressed how life is actually more like death (She was actually suicidal). The short story revolves around the life of two, unmarried sisters, struggling through their new lives on the eve of their father's death.

The Daughters of the Late Colonel. Their father has died before the story begins.

I remember learning in school that Murry was her second husband and she married someone else and "left him within a day". Is this no longer considered accurate?

–--- This page is generally well-written but it could be organized better. In the first, introductory paragraph, it would seem more appropriate to give a brief overview of Mansfield's life and work, rather than beginning her biography and continuing it with the first section labeled under the table of contents. I just added three more biographies. One is the 1954 one by Antony Alpers. He also wrote one in 1980 but that is a different book, so both should be listed.

Another is the one by LM. LM is barely mentioned, in the second paragraph of the Moving to London section and what it says at present contains errors - she wasn't South African she was English. In the Moving to London section I have now corrected and updated the sentences about her meeting Ida Baker, adding two new references. I moved the sentence about what she didn't do regarding suffragettes into a separate paragraph - in my view that paragraph should be deleted. Mansfield made the remark about "detesting" the photograph because it had been taken many years previous to when her husband John Middleton Murray decided to use it as a frontispiece to her stories. She was hurt because Murry preferred an image from her youthful, healthy days, not the prematurely aged woman she had become because of her illness. She felt it as a rejection of her current self. The photograph in itself is lovely, and is just as appropriate to the article as a later one. Younggoldchip (talk) 22:03, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So what?[edit]

Mansfield did not become involved in much political activity during her time in London. For example, she did not actively support the suffragette movement in the UK (women in New Zealand had gained the right to vote in 1893).

Family name[edit]

In the "Early life" section we have "The Mansfield family moved from Thorndon to the country suburb of Karori in 1893". Shouldn't that be "The Beauchamp family"? Tigerboy1966 10:02, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In 1893 for health reasons, the Beauchamp family moved from Thorndon to the country suburb of Karori, for her to spend the happiest years of her childhood. She used some of those memories ...
