One of my past issues of the World Almanac describes India as being in "the Soviet orbit", referring to India aligning with the Soviet Union in regional affairs. It would suggest that, at least in the 1970s or 1980s, the term orbit could refer to geo-political alignments. GBC (talk) 03:21, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
