Obvious error[edit]

The photo is captioned "1963, Age 48". NO WAY!!!! 1963 is 20 years before the mini-war in Grenada, which he supposedly participated in as a SP4 in the Army. A 68 year old SP4 in the 82nd? I really doubt it. Whoever posted that pic needs to fix the numbers ib the caption — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.202.232.120 (talk) 13:54, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oops!![edit]

Hit a key by mistake and saved it before I finished a sort of tongue-in-cheek note about the picture "error", and can't get back into my comment to edit it, so I better complete it here. The point I wanted to raise was really about the layout, that the way it's physically arranged makes it look kind of as if it's saying the pic was in '63 and the was 48 at the time if you just glance at it. I think putting the "Age 48" by itself immediately below the pic, which would essentially make his age the picture's caption, with the birthdate and other data a couple lines below that would make it a lot harder to mistake. Also, leaving it as Birthday '63, age 48 as it is now means that the age will be wrong as soon as the entry is a year old. If the age is put in as a caption itself, it'll be clear that the 48 refers to his age when the pic was taken, and anyone who wants to know how he old is when they read the article can just take the birthdate and do the math. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.202.232.120 (talk) 14:11, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Um, no. That is not a caption to the picture. It has nothing at all to do with the picture. There is no information at all given about when the picture was taken; it could have been last year or 20 years ago, and that will still be true 20 years from now, when his age will be 69. -- 64.131.245.216 (talk) 18:43, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical Data[edit]

I'd like to see someone qualified add some brief personal information: birthday, divorced, two daughters, partner Miriam Sloan, etc. --Lumsden 23:21, 22 Feb 2007 (UTC)

The author's homepage is no longer accurate. Also I noticed a comment of how many books the author has in print. Baen has a aggressive electronic book format sales policy that does not have post sales tracking of the documents. So number of books in print here would be at best a suggestion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.184.25.86 (talk) 10:52, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

dab[edit]

Should someone write up, and differentiate from, cowboy/gunfighter John Peters Ringo? FZ 21:29, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

And Ringo Starr, which takes the Ringo page for redirect. I guess Ringo should be a disambiguation page, and all ringos should have an italic with if you are looking for x_ringo_x, the X_proffesion, you should see interlink. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus 10:37, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)

If this is all on your website or your myspace page thats all you need for verification sir. and I'm willing to add all this. my favorite is dragonfly. and i read a deeper blue cover to cover. only moved to flip the pages. I live in central Florida, had my house damaged in "looking glass" in the first five pages. My father out in lake county bought a larger rifle just "in case" tavares needed it. He is rather ill at the moment, your books help a lot. We think you're the best thing since drake and alois. Towers84 07:55, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's respecting NPOV by offering his source data here. As such, it is primary data which the primary editor responsible for the page (if there is one) should consider integrating into the meme. It's a subtle way around the self-posting constraint, although using family to the same end works the other way. Those wishing to undertake research should respect this, as they suffer the complementary difficulty, a living individual has superior legal rights to privacy (at a "Constitutional" level ie predominant over ordinary Statute Law) which are often contradictory to the concept of transparency. This is why WP has, or at least had, a generally-disregarded injunction against memes on living people. What he posted here releases WP from that constraint in those areas, although the editor should exercise his doubtless habitual caution in integrating the data with objectivity: this, for the legal reasons I just cited, allows WP to circumvent those constraints. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.252.227.166 (talk) 08:41, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I added it to the main page, copied it from here though, and I dont think there is any rule against updated your own page within guidelines. Just don't pull a bluemarine/matt sanchez... of course john isn't nearly controversial enough to make that worth while.Towers84 05:39, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Views[edit]

What "outspoken views" is he known for?

Militarism, nationalism, the typical stuff you see from most military SF authors.
His works are very pro-US, and exceedingly optomistic as regards to what current technology can do in face of alien threats.... (like the Posleen books, and Von Neumann's War... his rather less than realistic CAS (combat armor suits) are also a bit grating)
In the Posleen books, he seems to indicate that there's a northern limit to Posleen advance, but says that the US is the only country able to hold its own, but within the books, he mentions that Canada should be able to hold its own as an aside (referencing a nice vacation in Montreal)... so it's like all northern and island based countries are just so much chopped liver to be ignored... (Canada, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, etc...) This "snowline" would also seem to indicate that most of Russia, Korea, and northern China should be safe... but his history of war does not show this...

a few of his books where extremely blunt and rude about europe. In the Posleen books Europe basically gets butchered in a month, and china nukes itself. Effectivly only the US can stop the enemy onslaught. In Ghost he took it up a notch with basically stating how the Elite commandoes of the French, Germans, English etc were shit and how one single american commando did everything. Recently on his own website he took a crap on how dumb and inefficient europeans are and how they are jelous of Americans and how they top us at everything. As you might guess that kind of ruined the mood for a lot of europeans and I guess thats where the extreme views comes from. I have not read a John Ringo book since Hell's Faire its hard to find his books here in Europe.

One book got a lot of flak on Amazon about his extremely conservative views. And he posted about it on his website. In all honestly I have talked to John and know he is a nice guy but I think when he gets angry he says things the wrong way.

here are some reviews that basically paint the picture

Here is John his view on Europeans:

Ringo's views on transnational progressivism are scathing. See the Afterword of his and Kratman's Yellow Eyes (2007), in which the writers state:
Never forget that the Tranzi purpose is inimical to our own, that they are the enemy as much as Hitler was or al Qaeda is. They want us, as a distinct nation and people, to cease to exist. They want our constitution overthrown or made subordinate to their law, which amounts to the same thing. They want our military made subordinate to their judges, so that it can be undermined and made unable or unwilling to defend us.
I would encourage the interested party to look into this Afterword, which is reproduced on multiple sites online. Anyone wondering in what way Ringo (and his co-writers) can be considered "outspoken" need only run through that essay. If it doesn't set your blood to boiling - one way or another - you've qualified as an organ donor, 'cause your brain certainly isn't working. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.251.136.102 (talk) 03:59, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He's also very outspoken on Twitter when it comes to accusing people who have won Hugos to have only done so because of liberal conspiracies.Euchrid (talk) 04:06, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please help know what you would like[edit]

This is Miriam Sloan aka LadyGothiq and John Ringo's girlfriend. If you guys will help me compile of information you would like, I will glue John down and we will update this page with things you would like to know. Also, please let me know what photos would be helpful.

Thank-you,

That's a nice offer. Make sure the info complies with WP:RS rules, though. DreamGuy 18:25, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like the photo from his web site with the tux the cigar and you. I hope I'm remembering that correctly. Towers84 07:58, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tone[edit]

The tone of this article seems well below the usual standards of Wikipedia. As example:

- "an American science fiction author who writes full time": writers who are suitably noteworthy for entry in Wikipedia are typically assumed to write full-time. A note is usually included for writers who earn their primary income through other means (Kafka for example). - "has had several NYT best sellers": this should include examples, or something more quantifiable than "several". - the entire biography section is formatted more like a CV than an encyclopedia. Much of the information included is irrelevant to the article (number of siblings, parents' names, etc). Did Mr Ringo edit his own Wikipedia entry? Regardless, sentences like "rock climbing (used to, shoulder's pretty much gone)" are not nearly to the standard required from a Wikipedia article. - "much like Tom Clancy's works with less politics and a closer to the ground level and action focus" and similar commentaries are not nearly suitable for the standards of Wikipedia.

In general the article is a mess, and could use a complete overhaul. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.10.26 (talk) 08:08, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Book titles[edit]

According to the man himself, ( www.JohnRingo.net , "Re: What Could be the name of the 5th book?", John Ringo, 4 November 2010 ) the editors changed his selection of book titles

  • Tum-Tum Tree to Claws that Catch. (Which was supposed to be Book Nine.)
  • The Maple Syrup War to Live Free or Die
  • Lacadaemon to Hot Gate
  • Citadel made the cut.

Just to be clear, the PLANNED titles in the series are... (re: Space Bubble series)

  • The Tulgey Wood
  • Eyes of Flame
  • The Borogroves
  • The Jub-jub Bird
  • The Bandersnatch

Minor grammar nit on the short story lines[edit]

The line for each short story says "...and are set in Weber's Honorverse." As each story is a singular object, the line should read "...and is set in Weber's Honorverse." If both short stories were mentioned on a single line, then the plural would be appropriate. 68.97.202.187 (talk) 00:13, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hymn Before Battle[edit]

Here it claims the idea for the story occurred in 1999. Ringo claims the idea first came to him in 1985 (or was it 1983?). I therefore believe 1999 is incorrect, perhaps it solidified in 1999 or gained (accumulated) sufficient coherence in 1999? (IDK)40.142.187.175 (talk) 03:05, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
