Early article text[edit]

Engler has, for some time now, been the president of the Republican Governors Association, and was instrumental in selecting George W. Bush for the party nomination. He was even rumored to be on the short list for the vice-presidency. But, when Michigan fell to Senator John McCain in the primary, Engler was seen as having failed his own candidate at a key moment.

As a lifelong resident of Michigan, I never heard any of these names used. There were often unpleasant names attached to him briefly, but none stuck. --Dcclark 04:41, 11 April 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also need to add this: Engler was quoted as having said last Friday (Jan. 11, 2019) that victims of convicted serial sexual assaulter Larry Nassar had been "enjoying [their] moment [in the spotlight]."
