It's rumored that the Roots founders were in fact, both American.

It's a known fact that the founders are American, but the company has always been based in Canada. --Madchester June 30, 2005 06:08 (UTC)

The company has 200,000 employees? I think not. That would be over 1,000 per retail store. Not very likely.

Major overhaul[edit]

The lions share of the information on the page appeared to be taken directly from the Company's promo material, without any editing (hence still referring to '"our" mission statement', and the like. I removed all of that, and cited what information I could find.

I added a seperate section on the Olympics, and moved a lot of info around to organize it into a little more coherent structure.

I'd like to insert a pic or 2 of the 'poorboy' hat, but am unsure as to what all's public domain for pics. Dirtyharry2 19:45, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

subsequent developments[edit]

Bad as it was then, it got even worse once some students from the Canadian WP academic program started working on it in 2012. I have just removed some outrageously written material, and have more to go. I would at first have thought it was written by a PR agent for the company, but the actual material written by the company in 2009 was much clearer. And oddly, relatively free from the worst promotional cliches--I suppose this shows how thoroughly they have been taken into the culture that students find it difficult to write without using them. . First negative-heel shoe?[edit]

The following text in the article was misleading:

"The Kowalewski family and their family business, the Boa Shoe Company, were the first makers of 'Negative Heel Shoes'," . (Emphasis added.)

so, I added clarifying text, and changed " 'Negative Heel Shoes' " to "negative-heel shoes". The negative-heel Kalsø Earth Shoe first appeared in Denmark circa 1957, and was first sold in the USA in 1970. It and the early Roots negative-heel shoe were very similar. (In the 1970's, I myself owned negative-heel shoes from each of the two brands, and would still wear them if I could find a pair in men's 12 AA size.) Acwilson9 (talk) 21:16, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
