Untitled[edit]

Did he really record all of Mahler's symphonies? Only four or five that I'm aware of have ever been issued publicly. DSatz 02:19, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

I think Horenstein did not record Mahler's symphony No 2, No 5 and No 10 (Unfinished). CF, 15/Nov/2005.

As I understand it, he made studio recordings of some of the symphonies, and there are airchecks of performances of most of the others, such as the 6th with the Stockholm Philharmonic that Nonesuch issued years ago. --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 16:28, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Horenstein and Mahler[edit]

Horenstein is generally regarding as having greatly contributed to the rise in popularity of Mahler's symphonies in the UK. The article doesn't really mention that, and to me that would warrent an entire section. There are quite a few recordings legally available, but not 2, 5 or 10. Current critical opinion is very mixed - He has his supporters who regard his versions as some of the best available, while others regard him as near incompetent. If no-one else wants to write such a section, I'll have a go. Questions - would liner notes from e.g. BBC legends CDs be considered reliable sources ? Would online critics e.g. David Hurwitz and Tony Duggan be OK as examples of opposite views ? MuppetLabTech (talk) 01:23, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
