How can she be a qualified solicitor? She may have done her law finals but she would not have had time to complete her aticles surely? or have I missed something.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.255.214.183 (talk) 10:49, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently she trained for it after getting her degree. I know nothing much else about it though. --Mal 13:58, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

4 years for an undergrad law degree and her solicitor's qualifications, she would have qualified in 2002 or 2003 which seems fine.80.7.123.91 (talk) 14:42, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Umlaut[edit]

Is it really Zöe and not Zoë? 86.132.115.18 21:14, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

we Know Zoe was born in 1980 but there is no evidence anywhere of her date of birth, when is it?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.151.205.69 (talk) 01:24, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Q. Why does the name Zöe have two dots above the o?

(Lauren, age 7, Fishgaurd)

A. Because it does! I think it's because I went to school with a girl called Zoë who had the umlaut on the 'e' and I just wanted to be different, and mine lives on the 'o'. I think Zöe Ball's is on the 'o' as well. The good thing is it lets me turn the 'o' into little smiley faces which I think is very important!

From the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/bluepeter/presenters/zoe/ --Mal 15:36, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's meant to be on the e, not the o, it's to do with the pronunciation. Zoë Ball spells her name correctly. Without the umlaut on the e, it's pronounced "zo", as in "toe". — AnemoneProjectors (zomg!) 23:37, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know it's deff on the O, she came to my school today and signed her autograph on my Planner... she turned the O into a smiley face just like it says :) - Savannah Clark —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.32.69.137 (talk) 16:24, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an umlaut, it's a diaeresis, and it's wrongly placed. An umlaut (in German) changes the sound of certain vowels (so an 'o' with an umlaut sounds more like 'er'). A diaeresis is used when two consecutive vowels are to be pronounced separately, not as a dipthong; it goes on the second vowel, so Zoë is pronounced 'Zo-ee', not 'Zo'. Placing on the 'o', as an umlaut, would make the pronunciation something like 'Zerre'. Still, at least she gets to do smiley faces, and that's what matters, isn't it? (By the way, am I alone in thinking the stuff about the Red Hand of Ulster is way to detailed? Anyone would think some Unionist fruitloop had taken over the site.) AuntFlo (talk) 10:43, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can we get a reliable source, preferably e.g. the BBC, giving us the correct position of the diaresis in her name? PatGallacher (talk) 22:33, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unicef? -- [[ axg ⁞⁞ talk ]] 22:50, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the positioning of the diaeresis in this article title is highly questionable. Firstly, it's a mis-spelling as it should be over the E, but I suppose that could be how she does it. But secondly, I can find no sources on Google of her name being spelt with a diaeresis over any of the letters. By far the commonest way to write her name is without the dots, so I shall rename and amend the article. Bazonka (talk) 21:27, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, perhaps I should have clicked on that Unicef link above before making my changes. This does give the dodgy spelling a smidgen of credibility. However, the vast majority of spellings are still dotless, so WP:UCN applies and this new title still seems most appropriate. Bazonka (talk) 21:41, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not up to Wikipedia to change someones name. A Google search lists: 194,000 results for Zöe Salmon and 185,000 results for Zoe Salmon. There is also zoesalmon.com, and the fact that probably many people do not know how to but diaeresis on a letter. -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 21:57, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how you're finding 194000 Zöe Salmons. Practially every site that Google returns spells it Zoe, including zoesalmon.co.uk. WP:UCN!!! Bazonka (talk) 09:14, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

TfD[edit]

Why is the TfD notice still here? The 'offending' bio box was removed and its still there. How do we get rid of it? --Mal 08:46, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ignorance[edit]

Although her natural stupidity has been well demonstrated in the article, perhaps it should be emboldened so as her inherent ignorance can also be seen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.198.115.137 (talk) 20:59, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life[edit]

As a general rule I'm cautious about including information about people's private lives, Wikipedia is not a gossip column. However she appears to have gone public about her current relationship. The earlier relationship with the Hollyoaks star is more problematic, they do appear to have been in a relationship, but it is not clear that they were married, is the source given accurate? Although it could be a strange comment on our society to suggest that it is defamatory to claim that somebody is married. PatGallacher (talk) 23:29, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is the source accurate? Well, the reference given for the marriage is the color suppliment magazine to a major national UK Sunday tabloid newspaper, the News of the World. This is generally considered to be the Sunday sister publication of the equally major weekly newspaper, The Sun, which is one of the top national UK newspapers in terms of circulation. As such, it appears to meet the requirements of WP:RS. As to accuracy, it's probably as accurate as all the other references given for the article, most of which are direct competitor newspapers to The Sun and the News of the World... Move of article[edit]

Potentially controversial moves should not be taken without discussion. Her official website spells her name with the diaresis over the 'o'. Anyone who disagrees should raise a formal move request. PatGallacher (talk) 08:50, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fine. But see WP:UCN. Practically all sites spell her name without the diaeresis. Bazonka (talk) 09:18, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Zöe SalmonZoe Salmon — It is questionable as to whether her name is officially spelt with a diaeresis (incorrectly placed) over the O. zoesalmon.com uses the diaeresis; zoesalmon.co.uk does not. But either way, the vast majority of websites spell her name without it - WP:UCN surely applies. Relisted for further input. Jafeluv (talk) 00:29, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bazonka (talk) 09:25, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose As they clearly state themselves, zoesalmon.com is her official website, zoelsalmon.co.uk is an unofficial fan site. I think WP:UCN does not justify using common misspellings of somebody's name, that's a can of worms. PatGallacher (talk) 10:53, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment But is "Zoe" a misspelling of her name, or is the diaeresis on "Zöe" an affectation? Bazonka (talk) 20:11, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Looks like a metal umlaut to me. If she wants to spell it that way on her website, that's fine but no reason we should follow, unless it can be shown that this is the majority practice. And according to IMDB and her former employer the BBC, her name is spelled 'Zoe'. Pending some similar heavyweight sources showing the metal spelling, we should not adopt it here. --John (talk) 16:24, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Channel Five[edit]

Article states "One of her earliest roles was a quick appearance as the original bearer of the Ruby Slippers in a little known re-telling of the Wizard of Oz made for Channel Five in 1995. She had auditioned for the role of Dorothy, but lost to Denise van Outen." Problem is, Channel Five started in 1997, so where does that come from? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.114.198.98 (talk) 18:25, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

Zöe Salmon was a contestant in Miss UK, the rules for this state that those who enter are UK citizens, British. There is no evidence for her to be considered Irish, as several IPs have. Murry1975 (talk) 01:43, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
