The idea of "field generated by adjoining an element" is discussed in the glossary of field theory page, and notation is introduced. However, there is no useful link anywhere to help people work out what "generate" or "adjoin" means, so it might be hard for them to find that piece of information. --Dmharvey 11:24, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I would distinguish between an article on Field theory, which would be about the theory itself: its history, development, main ideas, big theorems, links to other subjects; and Field, which would be about the mathematical object and associated mathematical ideas and theorems.
