Flemish Council and Flemish Parliament[edit]

Start of discussion copied from Reference desk. --Edcolins 20:17, Nov 3, 2004 (UTC)

When exactly did the Flemish Council or Vlaamse Raad (of Flanders, Belgium) change its name to "Flemish Parliament" or "Vlaams Parlement"? Is the new name "official" (i.e. was it enacted by some sort of legal text?), or is it a self-chosen "nickname"? --Edcolins 17:39, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)

The Flemish Council was officially renamed "Vlaams Parlement" on June 13, 1995. Members are called "Vlaams Volksvertegenwoordiger". This history of the Flemish parliament can be found on this site Milestones in the history of the Flemish Parliament (in Dutch), or on this site the Flemish Parliament (in English with an introductory brochure in .pdf) JoJan 14:33, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer. I copied this in the article on the Flemish Parliament. But where would it possible to find the law which officialy enacted this? --Edcolins 20:39, Oct 27, 2004 (UTC)

List Dedecker[edit]

Two questions about the adding of List Dedecker:

1. Are Verstrepen en Dedecker allowed to form a new parliamentary group during the legislature? In the Netherlands, this is not allowed for instance. There they would both sit as "independents" (e.g. "Group Dedecker-Verstrepen") in the parliament.

2. Can someone photoshop the "composition of the Flemish parliament" picture in order to add the Dedecker-Verstrepen faction?

Thanks. -- Berchemboy 08:34, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can only create a parliamentary group or "fraction" in the Flemish Parliament if you have a minimum of three members wishing to be part of that fraction (art. 8.1 of the Reglement). One can only be member of one particular fraction. Dedecker thus is one member short of this threshold. To be a recognized fraction (with the monetary and employee perks) one needs to have 5 members at the start of the legislature (art. 8.3) -- fdewaele, 24 April 2007, 11:20.
update: with the fact that a second member of VB (Monique Moens) abandoned her party for the LD, the consitutive criteria of three MP's is met -- fdewaele, 27 April 2007, 13:30

structure of parliament diagram[edit]

Differences[edit]

Could someone clarify "(unlike the French Community and Wallonia, which each have separate legislatures: the Parliament of the French Community and the Parliament of Wallonia)." I am trying to translate this but the three do seem very similar. How are they unlike? Is this parliament not a separate one even though it has legislative power over a part of the country (and apparently parts of Brussels under certain circumstances)?
