I can't find any source that the idea of Pokemon was conceived of on this day. The source on the pokemon page is encyclopedia britannica, and they do not mention a specific date, as far as I can see. Someone else please check this, and in case remove it. H

Untitled[edit]

The Battle of Jutand also wasn't 1914, and the author may not even have been thinking of Jutland anyway (I just left it in as Jutland as that was the only battle anywhere near there during that war). There was no full blown sea battle in that war before the Battle of the Falklands either, so just what engagement could there have been as early as August 1914? PML.

Establishment of St. Augustine[edit]

I have removed the 1565 establishment of St. Augustine, Florida from this day. The article does not support such a statement, noting only that "Menéndez first sighted land on August 28". Pedro Menendez sailed back and founded the city on September 8, as the article notes. Please discuss here before changing it back. --Scaletail (talk) 16:57, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring Honor Rally - Glenn Beck[edit]

This event was one of the largest gatherings on the national mall with over half a million people present. Those on stage included Albert Pujols, Tony LaRussa, Dr. Alveda King, C.L. Jackson, Sarah Palin, SOWF, Marcus Luttrell, etc.

How is this not a notable event? It was a massive day regardless of the biases of those who intend on removing it over and over again. What evidence do we have that this event will have long term impact? Notability in this context is often not realized for years after an event occurs. Guess you guys are finally going to engage in conversation after 2 1/2 weeks of blatantly ignoring me and my questions as I tried to engage you as you deleted the postings of the Restoring Honor Rally as a "non-notable event". No concrete evidence, though the reintroduction of the Black Robe Regiment, the attendance of over 500,000 people, the gathering of big names, such as Albert Pujols and Tony LaRussa, Dr. Alveda King, Sarah Palin (like or dislike her), C.L. Jackson, Marcus Luttrell, Glenn Beck (obviously), Daniel Lapin, David Barton, etc., the focus of honoring the military, donating over $5.5 million to SOWF all seem like pretty big things to me. Oh, and the overwhelming media coverage leading up to and afterwards (MSNBC spent virtually all next week "dissecting"/bashing the event), being broadcast live from CSPAN AND Facebook to what I believe I heard was another 10's of thousands of people. And, for those who watched it or attended, the attempt by Glenn to focus the citizens of the country to continously be honorable and good people, <sarcasm> which would have absolutely no effect on how people operate in their daily lives and how they choose politicians. </sarcasm> This matters because his thesis is that we can't expect politicians/the system to change unless we ourselves don't change.

What is the rush here? If this was such a notable event then history will make that clear. The Events section doesn't have to scoop anyone, and it's not intended as an exhaustive list of recent events. Most things in this section get added long after the event actually happened, and that works well. Political rallies happen all the time in this world, and so are rarely considered notable. It isn't obvious to me that this event comes under any of the criteria listed at WP:DOY, but time will tell. Note especially from WP:DOY#Standing the test of time When adding events to Wikicalendar articles, events should meet global notability standards for the foreseeable future. Events that are popular news items for a short period of time would not be considered long-term globally notable. Something that is newsworthy is not necessarily noteworthy. A phone call from the Smithsonian requesting items (I don't know why Glenn doesn't mention which items, is it supposed to be a secret?) is not sufficient to establish the notability of this event. The notability guidelines can be found here, and there is certainly no mention of museums of any kind. This is unsurprising as museums and Days of the Year articles are completely different animals. The Smithsonian has a charter to collect as much as they can about the history of the United States, as it is a national museum. At least you're enganging me unlike "Rlbarton" and "Mufka", who refused to discuss anything for over 2 weeks and acted like I was some vandal they can disregard. A year later the event almost forgotten. Relative to other things listed on this page its not significant. Just because it happend notable does not mean it has to be added. Which date of the race is correct?[edit]

There are many links that containing several different dates of the race between Tom Thumb and the horse. Wich date is correct August 18 1830 [2] [3] [4] or September 18 1830 [5] [6] or August 25 1829 [7]? Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 14:40, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If August 25 1829 is not the date of the race then there is a mistake in Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1829_in_rail_transport.
