Micro sign is derived from the small Greek letter mu (μ) and looks very similar to it (if not outright identical).

They look the same to me. What's the supposed difference?--Sonjaaa 23:04, Nov 26, 2004 (UTC)

They will be different only if the font designer deliberately makes them different. — Monedula 16:49, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)

why?[edit]

anyone got any official sources on why mu and the micro sign were disunified. my guess is it was because iso-8859-1 had it and they wanted a sane grouping of greek but i'd like a source before adding anything to the article. Plugwash 21:10, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
