It is true that Tsai Ming-liang was born in Malaysia, but he is generally considered a Taiwanese filmmaker.

The fact remains, though, that he's Malaysian, as the article to which you linked shows. I suppose that more detail could be placed here, but the claim shouldn't simply be that he's Taiwanese. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:52, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mel, Tsai Ming-liang may be a citizen of Malaysia, but he is Chinese by ethnicity. I don't know and don't really care about more specific ethnicity and whether he could thus be considered of Taiwanese origin, but he could be called Taiwanese because he is an ethnic Chinese person who re-located there (only 2% of Taiwanese are aboriginals).
