List purpose[edit]

This list should be for Tennessee State Routes only. This is not a list of roads in Tennessee, but a list of Tennessee state highways. I propose to reduce this page to just those roads currently listed under "Numbered roads" and "State routes" and to rename them "Tennessee State Route XX." Similar pages are List of Alabama state highways and List of Mississippi state highways. -- Fingers-of-Pyrex 02:00, 2005 May 6 (UTC)

  • But there are only a few highways in Tennessee actually classified as State Routes. SR840 and SR374 are the only ones I can think of in that category, and the rest on the list are State Highways, not obscure roads. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:19, May 6, 2005 (UTC)

Alternate routes[edit]

Tennessee has long tried to reduce the number of "Alternates", even though it never had a lot of them compared to some states. However, there are at least two of these that are still reflected on maps, 22-A and 69-A. Additionally, a portion of SR 48 through downtown Dickson is still marked as "48 Alternate", this apparently dating back to when some downtown streets there were one way and two separate streets were required for north and southbound traffic. As it currently stands, they are not part of the list. Should they be put in immediately following 22 and 69, or should we assume that they will be abolished shortly and replaced with a new, triple-digit number similar to the former 50-A becoming SR 373? Rlquall 20:27, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • My opinion is they should not listed separately; but the alternate and bypass sections should be mentioned in the article. See Tennessee State Route 22. — Fingers-of-Pyrex 01:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • As a side note, U.S. Highway 41 that runs through Clarksville is listed as 41-A whereas 41 runs through Springfield, but even that is mentioned in its article and not made separate. -- Riffsyphon1024 17:37, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • There's also a 220A near Trezevant, TN....I agree with Fingers-of-Pyrex but do need to ask a question, for instance, SR 191 crosses SR 69A but not SR 69, I have no problems linking back to SR 69 but what about the highway shield being displayed in the infobox, in this instance putting an SR 69 shield in would be a little bit misleading since this highway doesn't go anywhere near SR 69. Pepper6181 02:08, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Then you should mention 69A, and please use a redirect so the article can be split if we decide to. --NE2 03:00, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tennessee State Routes Project[edit]

Why don't we try and start an official highways project for Tennessee? Personally, I would enjoy researching this topic and reporting back about it. That, and if any first-hand research is needed, I'm always up for a road trip!

Sure, but take the inquiry to WT:USRD. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 23:39, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This state's highway naming convention is up for debate above. Feel free to participate. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 05:51, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tennessee state route svg shields[edit]

Svg shields are now available for Tennessee state routes, you can find those that have already been created at Category:Tennessee State Route shields on the commons. If you can't find the one you are looking for, feel free to request it on my talk page or at the shield project page: WP:USRD/S/R. --Holderca1 17:23, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It should be noted by anyone requesting a shield that the TDOT county maps differentiate between primary and secondary portions. --NE2 21:32, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've created a few shields myself and would like someone to critique them if you've got time. The latest one being and . Created using Inkscape using D font. Please let me know if I've goofed or need to improve in some way. These things are fairly easy to create and I'd like to get more of them created for TN. I'd also like to know if shields should be created for ALT routes 69A, 22A, and 220A and if so what naming convention should be used. Thanks everybody. Pepper6181 03:38, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page Redirects[edit]

Some existing pages may not have redirecting pages from the old naming system - State Route XX (Tennessee) to the current format. Many pages use the old naming for links. Afton 18:46, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a handy list at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Redirects/Tennessee for finding these redirects that need to be created. I just created the three missing ones. --NE2 20:01, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Highway List Update[edit]

I'm wondering if its time to update the Route List. Several new highways are in the works in West Tennessee, S.R. 458, S.R. 459, and S.R. 460. Where would one find an updated copy of this: "State Highway and Interstate List 2003" Pepper6181 22:14, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Try e-mailing TDOT. — Fingers-of-Pyrex 01:58, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've tried their Region 4 public information office..with no response. I'll send an email to their Nashville office and see what happens Pepper6181 00:31, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Error: too many expensive function calls[edit]

This edit moved this article into Category:Pages with too many expensive parser function calls. I believe the problem is the large number of transclusions of {{jct}} which invokes a module with the code callParserFunction('#ifexist',#ifexist is an expensive function. – Wbm1058 (talk) 19:17, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Missing former routes?[edit]

Does anyone know where SR 393 was? I also can't find SR 426, SR 427, SR 428, SR 430, SR 432, SR 439, SR 440 (deliberately skipped due to I-440?), SR 442, or SR 453. 401-415 and 463-472 are also missing, perhaps deliberately.

SR 398 (primary) was proposed between Wartrace and I-24 exit 105.[1]

--NE2 20:30, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • 401-415 are (or were) used as secret designations for the Interstates. Alexlatham96 (talk) 23:14, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • SR 393 was proposed between US 51 south of Fowlkes and US 412 southeast of Dyersburg. It is shown as SR 399 on the SR 398 document, which is almost certainly a typo because current SR 399 was created around the same time. Alexlatham96 (talk) 21:48, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear what makes you think this isn't redundant. For SR 301, the main table says it is 0.9 miles long and goes from SR 285 near Mount Crest to Taft Youth Center. This list has no additional information for any of these roads, and if there is something you want to note, the table has a terrific column called "Notes"! This is redundant and unnecessary. Reywas92Talk 20:21, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose—the purpose of such lists, and there are several for other states, is collectively take the place of several short stub articles in the quest to have complete coverage of a state's highway system. This listicle should see further development to expand each section to have history paragraphs added and then junction list tables added, content that would be in any separate article about each highway. As this development takes place, it will then be clear that the listicle would not be redundant to the main list. It would behoove BDAN88 to work on this development expeditiously instead of continuing to create other stand-alone articles in the near term. Imzadi 1979  22:44, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose—The purpose of this article is to provide information about these State Routes that are really too short to write an article about, seeing as how they are not even a mile long. BDAN88 (Talk) 4 November 2019 (UTC)
    • Thanks for not creating stubs about non-notable hunks of concrete. Can we merge the existing ones there then? If this list exists, then Tennessee State Route 418 shouldn't. How about turning this into a megalist of longer ones too? Tennessee State Route 241 really doesn't need to be its own article, we can merge more of the relatively short highways just like the <1 mile list then? Reywas92Talk 01:54, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • Please stop being disrespectful to me and other Wikipedia editors. I’m just trying to provide a complete list of articles for all state routes in Tennessee, as it has been done in other states, with many of those states being a lot less notable and noteworthy, such as Kansas. This is a particular passion of mine as I’m from Tennessee, Morgan County to be exact. Please stop trying to merge these articles that you obviously don’t know much about. BDAN88 (Talk) 5 November 2019 (UTC)
        • I wasn't being sarcastic, sorry. There are people who really do makes hundreds of one-line stubs about things but it's great you put it in a list article instead. It doesn't take being an expert to support keeping material condensed. If I support having an article for List of state routes in Tennessee shorter than one mile so that the individual very short roads don't need separate pages, then shouldn't Tennessee State Route 418 be incorporated into that page – that's what it's for, right?
