Bankruptcy[edit]

My interest in bankruptcy is professional, my practice is concentrated in that area. My poorly-designed web page. In that we've inherited so much law from the mother country I'm certain I can apply whatever bits I manage to learn about British insolvency practice in my own practice. Your contributions and edits are greatly appreciated; thank you. Flawiki 23:13, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Dennis the Menace and Gnasher[edit]

I'm curious about your recent edits to Image:Dennis the menace.JPG and Image:Gnasher.JPG- I'm pretty sure Toby Marshman is just the name of the person who uploaded the pictures to Wikipedia, not the person who actually drew them. That would be David Sutherland. BillyH 17:24, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Rewrite of AEJ Collins[edit]

Hi Brookie, I've just rewritten AEJ Collins, reorganising the material and sorting it better. I'd be grateful if you'd give it a look over and add in anything you think I've omitted. Talrias 16:22, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I've added the site I got the info from as an external link. Talrias 19:46, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

And I've added the table information details in reply on my talk page. :) Talrias 11:27, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I used m:Help:Tableand Wikipedia:How to use tables extensively, and copied from existing tables such as in Comparison of instant messengers, and changed the data I put in the table. I'm not sure what you mean by the summary contents table. If you mean the table of contents, if you use headings this gets added automatically. Hope this helps! Talrias 10:54, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

FAC nomination[edit]

You may wish to advertise AEJ Collins on Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket, though I'll leave it to you to decide. All the best, jguk 18:04, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I've taken the liberty to do this. Talrias 18:18, Feb 2, 2005 (UTC)

FAC[edit]

If you have the time to do so, I'd appreciate it if you would have a look at my FAC, Test matches in the 19th century (to 1883), and add your comments/support. Good luck with AEJ Collins! jguk 15:27, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, jguk 18:33, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Nom de Wiki[edit]

Hey, thanks for putting me on the Nom de Wiki! I'm honored. :) --Patteroast 19:27, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

AEJ Collins[edit]

Looks like it's made the grade as a featured article, promoted today! Congratulations, jguk 21:13, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I noticed it was missing from WP:FAC, so looked at the featured article log and unsuccessful log (the links are towards the top of the WP:FAC page). AEJ Collins, along with Sikkim and Space Race had been entered in the featured article log by User:Raul654 (who decides on FA status), but he'd stopped there. So I've taken the liberty of adding all three articles to Wikipedia:Featured articles and noting their new status on their talk pages.
Well done. It would still be interesting to see what can be added when that book you ordered from the Bristol Historical Society arrives - I trust you'll still add any gems in there. All the best, jguk 21:24, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC) Will do

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for editing the article on Wellingborough School

WHEELER's article[edit]

Sorry, this is the first time I've deleted an article under the new protocol. The article has been deleted (or will be once the software is updated). AndyL 22:30, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Robert Newman (actor)[edit]

I saw you edit the Crossroads article so I figured you'd be interested in this sort of thing. You nominated him a while ago, and he's an actor on an American soap called Guiding Light. It's probably the most prestigious show that's on the air here, and it's gotten distinction from the Guinness Book as being the longest "story" ever told. I just figure you should know.

Also, is your Wiki name from the soap Brookside? Mike H 09:26, Feb 24, 2005 (UTC)

Robin McKinley article[edit]

Mind mentioning on the talk page what exactly you think needs attention? As noted there, nothing immediately springs to mind. --Phil | Talk 08:54, Feb 28, 2005 (UTC)

Samantha.jpg[edit]

Please, can you give a link to the Russian website, from which you took the image? I have suspicions, that this is an altered Patrick Carkin's image (and therefore copyvio tag should be added), see that image's talk page for more details. Cmapm 16:45, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC) Done - Brookie 17:02, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC) All right. Thanks. Cmapm 17:30, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

The first EB[edit]

Hi Brookie. Thanks for your message. That is an edition I have not used at all, though I did see the facsimile in a dealesrs some years ago. I will now add a note to the main encyclopaedia page if you have not already done so. Regards Apwoolrich 20:30, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Angela's face...[edit]

Hi Brookie -- sorry if I was being hypervigilant, but I'm sensitive to people changing other user's stuff before asking -- and in general, I leave a note first asking them before I make a change. Having said that, I'm sorry if I interfered in something that you and Angela had already agreed on -- it just didn't seem that way from your note on her user page.

Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 16:04, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Widor vote[edit]

I replied to your comment on my talk page. I just looked at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Keith Wigdor, and your vote shows up (and it looks like you edited it twice with no change of text). Perhaps it was a cache problem on your end, and you didn't see your edit? Perhaps try reloading the page. Have you had that problem elsewhere on Wikipedia? Note: the word "Delete" on a vote doesn't need to be a wikilinked, it is ususally just bolded. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 16:27, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"No.1" Medal for services to Canadian sweet-eating![edit]

Thank you very much! I feel so warm and fuzzy inside when people recognize contributions (even though they are few). By the way, could you help with the Clodhopper article? 19:26, 8 Mar 2005 User:Munchkinguy

I probably will not be able to post you a pack of Clodhoppers. My friend had a hard enough time trying to get them into the U.S. He only prevailed when he lied to the customs officer and said they were homemade. It would be even harder getting them overseas. However, you can go to the Clodhoppers Homepage and check for any news about exporting them to Europe. And you can play Clodsteroids! --Munchkinguy 22:53, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Sorry. I gave you the wrong site. The real one is www.clodhoppers.tv.

"Greatest Paintings"?[edit]

When I do a search for Greatest Paintings, I end up getting directed to the page that I was complaining about. If you can't see it, then it upgrades the problem from "annoying" to "SPOOKY!"

Voxexmachina 18:37, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Did you ever find the page?

Voxexmachina 22:35, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

User number[edit]

Hi Brookie! It was nice of you to sign my talk page. The easiest way to find your user number is by clicking on the PREFERENCES link (third from the left, among the links in the top right corner, if you're using the skin that I'm using). It immediately tells you what your User name and number are. Have a great day. David Cannon 00:46, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Quarto by email[edit]

Hi Brookie, a new mailing list has been set up to distribute news about the Wikimedia foundation, specifically at the moment to publicise Quarto. I saw your name on the quarto talk page requesting a copy by email, and I think this mailing list is how we're going to do it for the moment. It'll be a html email, which I've added to the Quarto talk page m:Talk:WQ. Mailing list is called Foundation-news-l (We also need translators!) Cheers w:User:Cormaggio

Wakefield Regional Council/Green Paper[edit]

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to build under Wakefield Regional Council, but Wakefield Regional Council/Green Paper would hardly survive a vfd. If anything, this might fit into wikisource, but not WP. Rl 21:33, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Moved to Wikisource Brookie 15:18, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I just got a high-res version, and the image is public domain. Please support the high-res version. --brian0918™ 17:03, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Zzyzx Road work[edit]

Hi! Thanks for cleaning out some of the extra wiki links on that article. There was so much red and blue added over the last few months that all I could see was purple. Have a great weekend! - Lucky 6.9 03:13, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • LOL! "Busy" isn't the word for it. I'm going to tackle another one of my originals that sprouted "wiki weeds," namely Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9. Captain Obvious has been hard at work on that article! Best, Lucky 6.9 17:20, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Oh, yeah. There are such wonderful links that I don't know where to begin. Nitrogen is a good example. Race cars is another. Wiki weeds are about to be whacked!! - Lucky 6.9 06:34, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Maybe Katie[edit]

Salve, Brookie!
You were kind enough to support my Julia Stiles article when I nominated it for featured status. Another article on an actress, my Katie Holmes, is now also a FAC here and I wonder if you would offer your comments. PedanticallySpeaking 15:26, Apr 18, 2005 (UTC)

Old encyclopedia?[edit]

Do you have a copy of an old encyclopedia that I can us eto look up information about older technology and inventions? Thanks. --Randy 20:17, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Page moves[edit]

All comments noted thank you - head down and now towing the Wiki-line! Brookie:A glow in the dark 07:28, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Brookie, I hope I didn't get you down, no hurt intended. And at least you made an effort and did something. That's far better than sitting on your hands, after all Wikipedia does encourage us all to 'just be bold, go ahead and edit things'.
All the best for your future time on Wikipedia. Enjoy this excellent place and go on editing stuff. Isn't it great to be working on a mega shared project like this one!  :-) Chris Jefferies 13:18, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Regarding the naming of pages: I can totally understand the confusion that you've come across. I'll try and outline the current naming conventions:

  • Places in the UK (and most other countries) are at placename unless a clash of names appears. If that happens then placename may be a disambiguation page or the most commonly known city. To get around a clash the name is therefore sometimes given as placename, county.
  • Places in the US and Australia are always at placename, county.

Basically the decision is based on a per-country basis. Since the US usually include the state anyway it was decided that the standard policy should reflect that. It was decided that Australia should match it, but that the UK shouldn't. Silly, eh? Hope that clears it up for you. violet/riga (t) 08:21, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The reason for the lack of consistency is that the policies are made by us, the people with accounts on Wikipedia. Everyone that wants to can support or oppose a proposal, admins like violetriga have no greater say than newbies who joined up yesterday.
Issues are raised by one concerned person, or perhaps by a group of like-minded people. Usually this happens first on a talk page somewhere and the issue will be discussed from every angle. Sooner or later the discussion may be moved to a dedicated area and voted on over a period of time.
Once something has become a formal policy in this way it's generally expected that everyone will stick to what was agreed. It's always open to anyone to reopen the discussion of course, particularly if circumstances have changed.
In the place names policy, it was probably agreed that countries and regions differed enough that they should decide for themselves what was best. There would have been a UK discussion and you can probably find it if you feel inclined. The best places to start would be Wikipedia:Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city names) where there's a section on United Kingdom places]].
If you want to go into all this in detail, I wish you luck :-) Chris Jefferies 16:41, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Snowtown[edit]

Hi Brookie - thanks for your work on Snowtown and the associated murders - I really enjoyed the term "wikiweeds" - sums up unnecessary links perfectly. Regards--AYArktos 07:19, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Snowtown map[edit]

Thumb
Thumb

Regarding your Snowtown map, thanks for doing that. Might I suggest zooming it out to cover all of Australia, to give some more context? Few people outside Australia would know SA that well for it to be really useful.

A useful technique is to give the part you have as an inset of a map of Australia with lines showing where the inset would sit. User:Shermozle

Thanks for your note![edit]

And now I read your userpage! Guess what, I... er... like friends too... and more than tadpoles and trousers for some reason. I like your sense of homo(u)r, are you a Pratchett fan by any chance? (Also I noticed that your signiture under "Tag" is a broken link because you have"User:User:..." :) Have a nice day! --Dmcdevit 17:21, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you look at the first line under it says tag on your userpage it looks like this: "[[User:User:Brookie|Brookie]]\[[User_talk:Brookie|talk]]" (my emphasis), so it turns up as a redlink. I didn't know if there's a reason for this or something. And yes, Terry Pratchett (in Discworld) is definitely one of the funniest authors I've ever read! --Dmcdevit 21:22, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
