Thank you, but be please aware that I have long since left the Renewalniks (in the mid-80s when they ceased to be anything resembling Orthodox, IMHO.) I stand by the book, but I was in B'nai Or, NOT "Jewish Renewal" as it exists today. However, I am not a revisionist, so what I wrote back then, I wrote. You might also be interested in my third book, Jewish Tales of Reincarnation, published by Jason aronson, Inc. in 2000. List of British Jews and Jewish Year Book

Please see the dialogue I am having with Grace Note re use of the Jewish Year Book as a valid source. I am sure that when you voted for the current policy on the List of British Jews, you intended to ensure that it was a list of people who were undoubtedly Jewish. Did you want to give carte blanche for quibbles that would allow the deletion of perfectly valid entries? Please read the talk page. Elkie Brooks was a good example, where the evidence adduced would convince any reasonable person that she is Jewish (and indeed Jayjg was convinced) but she was still deleted. (I have since found a quotation from the Jewish Chronicle and restored her.)

The persistent querying of the Jewish Year Book is another example. I don't know if you would support the deletion of the whole list, but whatever your view, given that the list exists it cannot make sense to delete several eminent undoubted Jews on dubious grounds. HMMMM.... I went there and read it, Yoninah, and must say that his goal to "capture" Wikipedia for his own website is not NPOV at all, if anything, he is blatantly self-promoting himself here. Dear Rooster613, first of all the "capture" wasn't on the actual post, maybe you saw it in someone's comments. Second of all, the Truth will capture the world, falsehood doesn't last, the Truth stands forever. One should not be threatened by being captured by the truth!

Na Nach, what is meant by "capture" here was an attempt to use Wikipedia to promote yourself or your own organization over and above other POVs. Please read the section on conflict of interest issues. There are times when your edits are not NPOV and come across as self-promoting of your own websites and org. Thi has nothing to do with TRUTH, it has to do with POLICY.

Please explain to me what exactly you mean by having the "heads-up" on this guy?!  The truth is that you are pretty much NPOV and maybe even pro Nanach, we have had our differences but they were in context. Editing and conduct of Yonina, however, is completely POV. Take a look e.g. at how he starts explaining the history of Nanach:

However, he did say that repeating one word over and over was an effective form of meditation (Likutei Moharan Tinyana #96). Aside for the fact that he gives no references to this idiocy, and aside for the fact that it's wrong (Rabbi Nachman did tell people to say Ribono Shel Olam, and if they couldn't come up with other words they should repeat it, but I don't know off-hand of any place that says that he did this, and obviously this is not a mantra if one is supposed to be saying other things), please explain to me why it's relevent at all to know the Yiddish intonation: Ree-BOY-noy shell OY-lahm!?!? But I do grant him that this, every time I see this, it gives me joy, sheer madness. It would be one thing if he just put it up once, maybe he copied it from somewhere, but do you know how many times he reverted serious work to this idiocy?!?!

Na nach, it is relevant to know the Yiddish pronunciation because that is how Rebbe Nachman said it, he spoke Yiddish, not Israeli Hebrew, and the non-Na-Nacher Breslovers I know who use it (yes, there are such!) often draw out the OY part as a sigh -- again in Yiddish idiom. The Israeli pronunciation has no such play on words and it puts the accent on different syllables, which changes the rhythm. And it is not any more "idiocy" to include this than your insistence that everyone should be shouting Na Nach Nachma which appears NOWHERE in the writings of Rebbe Nachman and is a 20th-century phenomenon. There are different traditions within Breslov, there is no one single leader even though you keep insisting that there is. Rooster613 (talk) 08:52, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
