Batman?[edit]

Nnothing about the common Batman comparison?

Does not meet WP:FICTION criteria for seperate article[edit]

This article does not meet the criteria for a serperate article according to the current guidelines at FICTION. Please either bring it in line with Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(writing_about_fiction) or leave it in the blanket article. --Kunzite 04:41, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The articles do meet the WP:FICT criteria for a seperate articles because:
1.They are already are in line with Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction) as they are both written in an out-of-universe perspective and they have a few citations (though I do admit that they should have some more).
2.This list is currently 34 mb, which is larger than preferable, thus it should be split. --TBCTaLk?!? 03:11, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
1. There is not a single citation in the whole article. (I don't consider links or passing mentions of an episode to be citations.) There is no single WP:RS source in the article. The article, with perhaps the exception of the first sentence is written in-universe. It doesn't meet WP:WAF If you think outherwise, please provide examples.
There is a lot of editor inserting generalizations...i.e. "Many feel Dorothy is based on the character..." Who are these "many"? Many television critics? Many English majors? Why do we care about what they feel?
2. We don't slavishly abide by the pre-programmed size limit. Please read WP:SIZE. --Kunzite 03:52, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

I just did a major cleanup on this article, following suggestions made during peer review:

General cleanup[edit]

  • Removed spoilers tags. Every other character had a spoiler tag, when it wasn't required. The reader should expect this article to go into further detail than the character section in the main article and therefore know here be spoilers.
  • Removed in-universe tag for the whole article.
  • Removed info on the mechas and monsters. (Pero, Big Duo) That should be in the megadeus article.
  • Added the "Anime and manga characters by series" category.

R. Dorothy[edit]

This character was hit the hardest. Apart from the description and creation information, this section was nothing more than original research, fan speculation and non-notable information. Before cutting the information all together, I tried trimming the cruft and repeated statements but it was futile. For example:

  • "it has actually probably been less than a year since her construction" (Unfounded speculation)
  • "fans of the show know that she can actually move her facial muscles." (Fan-speculation)
  • "fewer people mistake her for being human, perhaps because those in Roger's neighborhood have become accustomed to her presence" (Speculation. False. How many characters does she interact with, really? And when she meets someone new, like the little girl in Advent, she mistakes her for a real person)
  • "It can be assumed that she does not possess a normal human body temperature as a blind girl once discovered it after Dorothy allowed her to 'read' her hands" (Speculation. Also... it was Christmas and Dorothy's a robot. Of course she'd feel cold.)
  • "She obtains Roger's aid in taking lessons from master android musician R. Instro" (Wrong. Roger forced her to take lessons.)
  • "Dorothy has a performance-quality singing voice, but it has never been heard 'on screen'" (Speculation. If it's never heard, what's the point of this?)
  • "Dorothy has the habit of standing perilously close to edge of the roofs of tall buildings" (Non-notable)
  • "some have speculated that Dorothy is something along the lines of a scaled-down megadeus" (Fan-speculation)
  • "Dorothy started almost uncontrollably making ultra-fast synthetic vocalizations to it, apparently communicating in some form of computer code." (Wrong. During the second season it is explictly stated the megadeuses were trying to access Dorothy's memory.)
  • "It is revealed in the final episode that Big robots are actually designed to interface with androids" (Speculation. The only thing that's clear is Dorothy activated the Final Stage. Furthermore, that should be, and is, covered in Big O's entry of the megadeus article.)

Last month, Dorothy's entry was expanded. I've seen the series a couple of times, and either: (a) I don't remember the episode where Dorothy declares her admiration for Roger's "quest for the truth, and his protection of the innocent and concern for others"; or (b) it's mostly speculation and interpretation. Angel[edit]

Tagged with having an overly long plot summary. I was tempted to cut it, but after what I did to Dorothy I was afraid fans would scream bloody murder and revert the changes.

As a side note: The business card she gave roger spelled "Casseey" not "Casey". Please keep that change.
Engrish notwithstanding, Bandai's R1 DVD release (and Adult Swim's closed captioning) spell it as "Casey".--Nohansen (talk) 03:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't take closed captioning as a valid source of information because they tend to misspell many things in both dubbed versions of anime and English shows. Alex Rosewater[edit]

  • Removed all non-sourced poetic imagery comparing Alex with Christ, the Anti-Christ, a False Prophet and Hitler.
  • Info on Big Fau appears in the megadeus article. No sense repeating it here.

Alan Gabriel[edit]

Again, lines like "insider of a joke" and comparison to Michael Jackson and the robot he pilots were not necessary. When stripped to the bare essentials, Alan's entry is no more than three sentences.

Jason Beck[edit]

Removed redundant information and what was mostly a summary of Beck's appearance on the final arc of the show.

Schwarzwald[edit]

Rewrote section from an out-of-universe perspective, especially the fact the character is named "Schwarzwald" not "Michael Seebach". Seebach does not appear on the series.

R.D.[edit]

Removed redudant statements and a quote from Dorothy in Act:13 that does nothing for this character's entry.

In conclusion[edit]

All characters, even fan favorites, need context and out-of-universe perspective; not a plot summary or read like they came from a fan site.

The article needs images for most characters; and entries for Instro and Timothy Wayneright... they may be minor characters, but they appear more than once and worth noting.

Also, if anyone has info on the manga, please share it. The list is seriously lacking on the manga's portrayal of the characters, particularly Schwarzwald. (who I hear appears as Seebach)--Nohansen 00:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(sigh) this will take a lot of work but I'll just have to brush up on what is required to make individual character articles and eventually fill this out properly. Speculation was avoided when possible, but "original research"....well yes, we watched the episodes ourselves and then put in "Dorothy stands on the edge of buildings alot" etc. etc. The peer review didn't really help, other than to point out that there are indeed serious revisons that are needed here. Gutting the page of most of its information didn't really help: Wikipedia is not paper and its not supposed to be a light summary: context and out of universe perspective: the idea is that we bootstrap the articles up to quality levels by each of us writing as much as we can, though incompletely. Removing most of it was kind of working at a crosscurrent. "out of universe perspective"; other than avoiding saying "Dorothy is cool", what does that mean? Pseudonyms[edit]

The current version says: "Because of union rules, most of the English voice cast for the first season were credited under pseudonyms; the only ones who used their real names were Lia Sargent (R. Dorothy Wayneright), Michael McConnohie (Schwarzwald) and William Knight (Gordon Rosewater)." I haven't read the footnotes, but is Wendee Lee really known to be a pseudonym?

Also, apparently the current Wikipedia party line (as seen here) is that David Lucas isn't a pseudonym. Everybody thinks he is, but he says he's not and nobody can prove that he is. --DocumentN 02:10, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wendee Lee is an oversight, must correct article. David Lucas is not credited as voicing Roger Smith in Anime News Network. [1] Only Steven Blum. [2]. IMDb lists "David Lucas" as one of Steven Blum's alternate names. [3]. The first season DVD's credit David Lucas as the voice of Roger. Second season Roger sound exactly the same as First season Roger. If they are different people (doubtful) Steven Blum is a great impersonator.--Nohansen 02:41, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So your sources for proving they're the same person are ANN (edited by fans unaffiliated with the series creators), IMDB (editable by anyone), and your ears? WP:IAR, but it'd be nice to find something that could actually be credibly cited in an article. On the other hand, consensus at David Lucas seems to have swung back to considering them the same, so that may make it easier to ignore the issue. --DocumentN (talk) 09:07, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Minor characters[edit]

What is your definition of "minor character"? These people deserve to be included, I didn't give them their individual sections. -The Big X 19:06, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hilary, Cerrano, Schweimer, Gauss and and the Frazier family are one time characters. Their importance in the series doesn't go beyond the episode in which they are featured, so adding three images and a short summary isn't really justified. I suggest moving them (with the exception of Melissa and Rick) to a "Military Police personnel" section in the Paradigm City article OR creating an article for "Bring Back My Ghost".--Nohansen 19:24, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

factual inaccuracy[edit]

not a wikipedia member or anything but there appears to be some facts that are just wrong.

for example the beginning of the dorothy section says

R. Dorothy Wayneright (R・ドロシー・ウェインライト Āru Doroshī Weinraito?) is Roger's assistant. Introduced in Act:01 as Dorothy Soldano, daughter of rich scientist Miguel Soldano, she is later revealed to be an android constructed by him. Her actual "father" would be Timothy Wayneright, the man who commissioned her construction and father of the real Dorothy Wayneright.

Never once during the english dialogue or during the subtitles on the dvds is Soldano identified as a scientist. In the english version Dastun refers to him as an industrialist, and the subtitled version of Dastun's line refers to him as a factory owner. And during the first episode it is specifically stated by dorothy herself that

"soldano merely funded my construction."

Not that he was the one that built her.

Given the fact that during a later episode (specifically act 15) where Dorothy and roger visit wayneright's laboratory and discover a semi built and functional android as well as many different parts, i think it is clerely implied that wayneright built her, not soldano. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.138.221.148 (talk) 06:28, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
