Untitled[edit]

This page claims Felix Hormuth discovered Arthurdent. The List of asteroids (18001-19000) claims it was one 'Starkenberg'. Anyone know what the truth is? The Singing Badger 22:08, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

No contradiction; Starkenburg (not Starkenberg) is the Starkenburg Observatory (Starkenburg-Sternwarte), Heppenheim, Germany, where Felix Hormuth (and others, such as Matthias Busch) work. What we need is a Starkenburg page identifying Hormuth as the observer when 18610 Arthurdent was discovered. Note that Klet also publishes more names in its pages than the MPC lists...
This link establishes Hormuth as the discoverer, and also the one who suggested the name.

Date of naming announcement[edit]

If anyone cares, the online (paid) version of the Encyclopedia Britannica ALSO states that the name was announced on 10 May 2001. --JohnDBuell | Talk 16:41, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The actual date on the MPC (now online) in 9 May 2001. I referenced that date and tidied up the related discussion. Also added an infobox with characteristics of the asteroid. Rupert Clayton (talk) 21:34, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Ultimate Irony[edit]

Anyone else find it ironic that this asteroid is named after the main character of the Hitchhiker's Guide series of books, and was named in the dsays surrounding the writer of that series' death? not to mention that other asteroid... This must be the work of 42. 62.252.178.158 (talk) 14:44, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
