Why do mullet jump out of the water? I have not been able to find out. Does anyone know? Because they are searching for a school of fish to swim with. They have exellent eye sight. They don't jump while swimming in schools.

I've been told many times by many people that they jump to avoid predators. Tarpon really like to eat them.. 69.22.70.211 (talk) 19:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't fishbase be followed? So shouldn't it be in the order of Perciformes? Dryke 19:15, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, an also this whole family has had an unusual series of articles created for each genus, which doesn't follow the conventions used for all other families/genera. Anyway, can i get a go ahead to move the Mugiliformes into the Perciformes?. I might see if i can fix up the genera articles when i have some spare time, the tables listing species etc really don't belong and need to be put in the individual species articles in my opinion. Comments would be good. Cheers Kare Kare 10:10, 1 August 2007 (UTC) THe mullet fish lives in freshwater[reply]

Systematic revision[edit]

It is revised as part of Perciformes, see Catalog of Fishes --Ykvach (talk) 07:56, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have amended the article to follow Fishbase which does place Mugilidae in its own order Mugiliformes I have also tried to reflect more recent taxonomic proposals which I think are worth noting. Quetzal1964 11:03, 25 March 2017 (UTC) (talk)
