The Glitch Mob[edit]

Can anyone tell whether DJ Shadow and "Boreta" of The Glitch Mob are one and the same? Is The Glitch Mob a recent side project? If so, it's worth mentioning on this page. See: myspace photo and Pandora interview. ~ Skyscraper (talk) 21:10, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

origin?[edit]

The first line lists his birthplace as Davis, CA, but on the right under his picture it says his origin is Hayward. Anybody have a definitive source?

used-bin incidentelia[edit]

This odd phrase (and the list it is part of) is used here, amongst other places (all the same text AFACIS, probably cut and paste from bumf his PR company has sent them). But what the heck does it mean? Discarded incidental sounds, perhaps? Discarded by whom, then? No-one else in the googleverse uses the term in full. Mr. Jones 14:25, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

used bins[edit]

used bin refers to picking up cheap records from used record stores. Incidentalia is probably someone trying to sound clever when talking about incidental sounds.

so... used-bin incidentalia = incidental sounds from the used record bin.

entroducing/endtroducing[edit]

in the article, the album is only referred to as endtroducing, however, i was under the impression, which is backed up by the official website discography, that the original 1996 album was called entroducing (no d), but that then when the deluxe edition was released, with the bonus disc "excessive ephemera", it was called endtroducing. i have the non deluxe edition, which DEFINITELY has no d in the title on the sticker, but i can't speak for the deluxe edition...Febodyed 00:23, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ok. don't worry about that, i got out my CD and the sticker on the front does indeed say entroducing, but both the side of the album case, and the disc itself say endtroducing. i guess it's a typo? that was also made on the website too!Febodyed 00:31, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Under the Mixes subcategory, two CDs are marked with this. Does anyone know what they are about? If they don't have anything to do with the artist, maybe they shouldn't be there. If they are related, this should be rewritten. --BillWeiss 01:01, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Biography section in need of clean-up[edit]

There are too many dates and bits and pieces of information. Look at the last sentence for example which is set in 2002. It lacks a fluid text worth calling "Biography". I'm suggesting and not doing because I have neither a detailed knowledge about him, although I like his music a lot, nor an actual hard copy to (I didn't say steal, did I?) some wiki-worthy text. That last sentence is totally out of place anyway... the previous few sentences take the biography up to 2006 in a fairly coherent manner, then the sentence about "Six Days" being directed by Wong Kar-Wai is randomly inserted at the end. I've folded it into the earlier paragraph about what he was doing in 2002, though it still feels a little tacked-on. Otherwise, the biography section is clear enough right now, in my opinion. 1) There should be a list of his samples somewhere. I know this would be a ridiculous task but it's what wikipedia is all about. See List of samples used by Boards of Canada. It's a combination of lyrics and references.

Come on guys, surely we could have more about this dreadful/wonderful album on, I mean, wow, it took the world of Shadow fans by storm, either to one extreme (hatred) or another (pure joy) . Timelines[edit]

This is not the best biography page by any stretch, but it could at least have better timelines? For one, it doesn't list when Josh Davis was DJing at KDVS. For that matter, it doesn't talk about his life at all, only his albums. There's got to be better info out there somewhere...--Reverend Distopia 16:19, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

There is also a female DJ in Shanghai who goes by the name DJ Shadow, and is planning to sue her namesake for piracy.. ok just kidding on the last part. "Beijing woman proves a force behind the decks"

That's not actually possible

If only for the fact that he would have to sample the sounds onto the MPC from something else ... It's highly doubtful for a lot of other reasons as well

That still doesn't make sense tho

For example the sample from the Metallica song "Orion" ... that doesn't come with an MPC when you buy it

He'd have had to had played the record on a set of decks at the very least before sampling it onto the MPC ... it's just a misleading sentence that gives the impression of "get an MPC ... bang some buttons ... produce Endtroducing"

I know that as I don't have a reference for this it can't go in the article as it's not encyclopaedic

As for performing live with just an MPC ... that is possible and I've seen the video that you mentioned myself

The difference being that when they go onstage the MPC will have been prepared by the users with the samples they need for that performance beforehand

I'm curious as to whether the MPC was the only piece of equipment he used. I didn't know that The Guinness Book of World Records was now a reputable source. How much research has been done on this? Are there any original quotes from Mr Davis stating that the MPC was the only piece of equipment he used. Mr Davis is an accomplished drummer, could it not be possible that he recorded the percussion samples himself? Or is this not included within The Guinness Book of World Records guidelines? If this is the case, would the equipment he used then include before mentioned drum kit, recording equipment, etc?

Date of birth[edit]

I'm fascinated to know where this January 1 1973 d.o.b. is coming from. I have a pretty reliable source - the 33⅓ book on Endtroducing..., in which Shadow says that "I was born in '72 in San Jose". It's on page 23. I'm not kidding. Look it up if you must. I can't be bothered to have an edit war over it, but if anyone's coming to this article looking for actual factual accuracy... uh-oh. I've wondered about that myself, but could not find a good source online for the dob. Most sites seem to be copying their information from this article, which is problematic if our information is inaccurate. Live appearances[edit]

Is this section legitimate? What I mean to say is, do other band/musician articles have "live appearance" sections? And, if so, surely there are some criteria for which appearances are notable, and which ones are not. This has the potential to grow wildly and become useless. Discography Division[edit]

All other music artists I've seen on Wikipedia usually have their name listed under their band/act, and then their discography, then underneath it a collapsable drop-down list for each related act. I'd imagine for DJ Shadow he'd have a section that says "DJ Shadow" like there's one for "Quantum Whatever" and then underneath the members (DJ Shadow) then his discography. But I only see that Quantum act. Is he a part of it with no discography of his own, or is he his own act? He needs a section. Here's a screen of what I'm talking about:

Birthplace[edit]

A keyboard isn't an instrument[edit]

A keyboard is a device for sending input to an instrument (say, a synthesizer or a piano). It's not, in itself, an instrument.

Listing "keyboards" under instruments makes no sense whatsoever. It makes even less sense to have it there together with "synthesizer".
