Octo is also the first name of MUMPS pioneer Octo Barnett. Does anyone know anything more about "Octo" as a person's first name? Is there any language in which it is a common first name? Dpbsmith 19:52, 21 May 2004 (UTC)

• If you create an article for him, his article would have to be at Octo Barnett, and this article is at octo-. Wikipedia articles for people are never at simply their first name, excluding people such as Sacagawea who have only one name. 66.245.107.192 23:55, 21 May 2004 (UTC)

Octagon

Twice in this article's history, octagon has been added. This is incorrect. Octagon belongs at the octa- article, the article for the Greek numerical prefix for 8. Language of Octo-

In the prefix articles, as well as the 8 (number) article, it says that octa- is Greek and octo- is Latin. However, elsewhere in Wikipedia, namely, at Octopus, it says that octo- can be either Greek or Latin. Any comments on changing what the articles say?? 66.245.124.50 02:59, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

• It is pretty clear that octo- came from both Greek and Latin, sharing a common ancestor. The divergence that made hept- in Greek and sept- in Latin for 7 just didn't happen for 8. Since this is mentioned on the duplicate articles page Wikipedia:Duplicate pages, I would suggest that all the information get merged into octo-, and that octa- and oct- redirect there. On the other hand, wouldn't this be better in Wictionary? Dpv 20:32, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
