The Welsh Triads depict Caradoc as a close confidant of King Arthur, and if some genealogies are to be believed they were in fact cousins.

After reviewing my copy of the Welsh Triads (Rachel Bromwich's masterful work, mentioned in the bibliography of the Wikipedia article linked to above), I was unable to find this stated. Caradawc Vreichvras (as Bromwich standardizes the Old Welsh form of his name) is mentioned in Triads 1, 18, 38, & one version of 71; Caradawc is mentioned with Arthur only in Triad 1, which with 71 Bromwich argues are late Triads, perhaps dating to the 12th century. In fact in her notes on Caradawc, Bromwich states that their earliest mention together is in Chretien de Troyes' Erec, l.1719 -- which was written in the last half of the 12th century.

If this is typical of the level of scholarship of this article, then it is in serious need of work. -- llywrch 20:43, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
