Homestuck

I boldly included the start (and end) of Homestuck earlier, as I believe the creative work is fairly deeply tied to this date. This is unlike other creative works, for whom the release date is generally less-remembered. The story itself takes place on April 13, the number 413 is a recurring motiv, etc. I cited Polygon and Comic Book Resources to support this connection, though here I'd like to add this Comics Beat interview, where the author Hussie goes into detail about the date. April 13 was also when the spin-off webcomic Paradox Space began, when the first Viz Media Homestuck hardcover was published, and when Homestuck's "epilogues" were released. From WP:DOYSTYLE The date pages should be kept clean of trivia such as film history, fabricated holidays and observances, fictional events, etc.. Homestuck falls in the "film history" category. There are other project guidelines I could also point to. Toddst1 (talk) 18:46, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

Regarding the multiple messages about Homestuck

I'm a bit new to Wikipedia, so pages like this might already exist, but it could be a good idea to make "[day] in pop culture"-type pages for cases such as this? Like, release dates of well-known media, famous fictional birthdays, significant dates and the like? Mafuyuplush (talk) 10:12, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

I like the way you're thinking, but this would result in an endless list of unsorted information. Fictional birthdays in particular just don't have much place on Wikipedia, there's little encyclopedic value there. I think the policy WP:INDISCRIMINATE describes the situation best. If reliable external sources have noted specific pieces of information as particularly interesting, then we can cover it on Wikipedia, but there's a ton of information that's better suited for specific fanwikis. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 07:33, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

I guess you're right. The only thing that I'd say wouldn't really clutter a page like that so badly is release dates - it'd be about as full of meaningless names as the birthdays-and-death-dates-of-real-people parts of day pages currently on the site are to most people anyway. I do agree that the endless list of birthdays and deathdays is not particularly practical. I would note that what is considered "trivia" is perhaps not something that us editors can really decide. Which I suppose is why we just put down all birthdays and deathdays, but this solution seems very awkward to me. I'd prefer only placing items on lists such as these that are strongly linked to the date through reliable sources. But I feel I would have to read up on the history of all of DOYSTYLE to get a good grasp of everything and sadly don't have the time and energy. So instead I end up rambling on a random talkpage, pardon me ^_^; ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 14:14, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
